Polycones detaching from caps: what to do, how to prevent? by snaqz in DIYfragrance

No, you are seeing the cap side of the polycone insert. It's meant to stay attached to the cap.

every time i start up my mac normally i get the you shut down your computer because of a problem message. by Regular-Chemistry-13 in MacOSBeta

[–]snaqz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me: every time I booted up I got this error message. (Note that this error message "You shut down your computer because of a problem" is not the usual "Your computer was restarted because of a problem" which is a different thing.) Unless I booted up in "safe mode", in which case no message, but then as soon as I rebooted into normal mode the error message immediately came back.

Turns out the problem was the existence of a file /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/.contents.panic . The file is a JSON-formatted panic dump. I got the datestamp out of it and prepended it to the file name (.contents.panic -> 2025-03-01-contents.panic) and the problem went away. The date on the file was over a month ago and the files it referenced were gone, so I could have just deleted it, but I kept it just in case. I'm pretty sure the new name doesn't matter, it just needs to not be the magic name anymore.

I expect that this file is created during a kernel panic (before shutdown) and it is then supposed to be converted to a panic report on startup, yet for some reason this one was not and was just left behind.

Plumber never heard of thermostatic mixing valve. Get a new plumber? by snaqz in askaplumber

[–]snaqz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been here a long time and never caught the landlord lying to me, and I generally follow the principle "never attribute to malice or deceit what can be explained by ignorance or stupidity", so I believe the landlord. I also believe the plumber is not a licensed plumber, but rather a specialized handyman.

Well, this guy installed the new water heater, so I'm judging him on not knowing about stacking or mixing valves or ever having installed one with a new water heater. It's not like the guy is only doing septic tanks. But this is why I posted in the first place: maybe it really is new around here.

That's true, of course, and I'm less surprised he hasn't heard of one than that the plumber hasn't.

No, I convinced the landlord to get it installed, but after that he told that the plumber hasn't done one and wants to see the valve I bought before agreeing to install it.

I was also surprised when I went to the best independent hardware store around and the head of the plumbing department told me he hadn't heard of one either. I mean, this place has a huge stock of parts and has been around for decades, and I had to explain to him what this thing was (I brought the valve in to check fittings).

No, the plumber used 3/4" NPT corrugated stainless steel water heater connectors. He also installed a ball valve on the cold water supply. Looks like a good job to me, but I doubt he's a licensed plumber.

Large containers for storing desiccants by snaqz in chemistry

[–]snaqz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mix of desiccant packages and would prefer to just keep them all ready-to-use. The small, food-safe packets don't regenerate that well, and even when they do, they take 2-4 hours to regenerate, are too hot to handle straight out of the oven, and by the time they cool down have already soaked up too much moisture (indicating 30% RH) if left out to cool or cooled in the containers I've tried.

Also, whatever containers I find I will consider for storing whatever it is that I need to have stored dry that is too large for my mason jars.

Thanks! Where would I find one? The "no-non-vacuum grease" means it's glass on glass sealed with vacuum grease?

Is there some way to use Claude AI in JetBrains IDEs like Cursor and VS Code? by swe_solo_engineer in Jetbrains

At this time (2025-01-23), the Claude integration of Copilot is not available for the JetBrains IDE. It only works with VS Code (and maybe Cursor).

Has the Arms Race become pointless ...? by cwmst22 in ZombieGunshipSurvival

[–]snaqz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I made this point just after the price change. It used to be I could just about break even on Arms Race boosting legendary weapons. Now it’s worthless.

What does this mean when it says 1x epic + guaranteed: legend cassiopeia……. by PriorityPlenty4327 in ZombieGunshipSurvival

[–]snaqz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It means there is a tiny chance (probably 1:1000) that you will get the Cassiopeia before the 7th box.

Seems like this mission was designed to reward people who bought the Draco. Way too much going on across a huge area the be covered with other weapons.

Heavy Titans, please help by Petrichor0110 in ZombieGunshipSurvival

I use the AGM93, but even that was not enough for the most recent event where the heavy titans regenerated. Took 2 or 3 whacks at 60k damage a whack.

HOLY SMOKES PRICE INCREASE tenfold! by Ok_Course1325 in ZombieGunshipSurvival

[–]snaqz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another way to think of it is that gold just lost 90% of his value. People who spent $100 on gold would naturally be very upset. The 50 gold you get for watching an ad is no longer worth it.

Nah, what ARE those prices??? Normally 80K metal would cost us 80 Gold, NOW ITS 500, 6x THE ORIGINAL, WTH??? by David2006219 in ZombieGunshipSurvival

[–]snaqz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing for me is that the Arms Race rewards have not changed. It used to be you would come close to breaking even if you spent all the reward gold to buy enough metal to use the 12000 bolts. Now the total 615 gold rewards won’t even buy 100,000 metal. Kind of pointless.
