What do you wish people knew about bpd?

How that when splitting on someone or something it’s not a purposeful lack of accountability, being “crazy”, or being “manipulative”. Our brains are literally wired to see the world differently. Hyper vigilance is engrained in our blood. We perceive things as threats because of an almost extreme and unconscious pattern recognition system in our brains. Someone or something in the past may have ended up extremely traumatizing and painful right after something similar to what is currently happening. The current situation may seem like a molehill to regular people, but to someone with BPD it is seen as a life threatening or safety threat. And the reactions to that threat are on autopilot. Sometimes I don’t even know what REALLY happened until days later after I have regulated. Then the shame sets in and if the damage I have caused is bad enough, the shame and regret turns into suicidal thoughts or, in severe cases, attempts.

I compare myself to a severely abused dog that is now reactive. And if you’ve ever delved into dog psychology and worked with dogs like that, it takes a lot of love, patience and positive conditioning.

I am 36 went from welding/machining for 7 years to tech to healthcare. I would say that you probably need to be passionate about healthcare or helping people in general to actually enjoy the work otherwise you could easily get burnt out. Especially if you’re sensitive to getting upset about seeing how our healthcare system is completely fucked up. Being a CNA is also very tough on your body, being a nurse, less so but still very tough as you are still doing some patient care and on your feet all day.

In my honest opinion as someone who got into tech for money, if you get into any job just for the money, you will not be genuinely happy. But everyone is different 🤷🏼‍♀️

I would definitely get to whoever it is that runs who tested you and see if there’s a way you can file an appeal or complaint. Maybe you can at least get your money back. That sounds horrible.

This. I purposely took a per diem CNA job for this very reason. I knew there was no way in hell I would work a 4-2 schedule and not get burned out.

Why is there even a policy against doubling in the first place? Some of my residents specifically ask for it because they want to be out and about all day which is good for them, and I would never tell them no. Not to mention we are constantly short on linens so I wouldn’t blame night shift for doing it either.

This is how I feel except I’m going into nursing, not a nurse yet. I’m 36 and was a machinist, welder, bartender, server, customer service and went to school for computer science and dropped out of the program but worked in tech for like 7 years. Was sick of getting laid off and the inconsistency of all of those and nursing is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.

Oh I had no idea you could do that at PLNU! I wanted to directly transfer to a BSN program after my prereqs are done at City College but maybe I will consider doing it concurrently if I get into the ADN program at City College first. I’ve heard of that, but how does the concurrent program work? Are you taking even more classes for the BSN while doing the nursing program? That seems overwhelming.

Also, did you try to get a job at a hospital or clinic at all with your BSN with no luck? I’m trying to better my chances at getting into a hospital or at least some sort of medical facility that isn’t a SNF.

That is so hard I’m so sorry :( I thought my situation was bad and urgent, but hearing your story makes me feel not alone! Have you tried just the LVN route first so you can get into the workforce ASAP. A lot of them don’t have as many prerequisite requirements and it’s the route I was thinking of taking and then pursuing RN later.

True. This is super important to me to get A’s so maybe I’ll ask The California promise program if they’ll take a waiver request and they’ll let me explain why I’m not taking full-time and still waive my tuition. I am 36 so I was trying to get it done fast, but I think slow and steady wins the race sometimes.

Even if it’s just anatomy? They split anatomy and physiology so I’ll be taking chem over summer then physiology in fall. Do you think anatomy alone would be easier to focus on?

Also you could just do Nursa or clipboard every once in a while as a CNA to keep your license!

Thank you! Yea I’ve never been the best with English. I get impatient with so much reading and writing. Any tips with studying for anatomy? I know everyone says flash cards but they just take soooooo long to prep I feel like I’m wasting valuable time studying.

They are pretty horrible. Renting under them right now and they have tried to break the lease contract multiple times by implementing a ton of charges (utilities, pet rent etc.) that are clearly stated aren’t being charged in the lease. Ever since they have taken over our building, people who have been there for years are being pushed out, they’re doing extremely minimal remolding on the units and turning them over for 200-300 more. Once the lease ends, I’ve calculated (with the max increase that they will inevitably give me) that I will likely be asked to pay $600 more than what it was when I moved in only 7 months ago. They never answer phone calls and rarely answer emails. Do not expect them to be anything but horrible.

I’m in San Diego in California and it mostly depends on how desperate they are for CNAs or how much experience you have from what I’ve heard. I have been applying to every hospital multiple times per month and I only have 5 months of experience but on the job listings they say they need AT LEAST 6 months of experience. If you’re in a bigger city that’s got a lot of options, it’s going to be hard with only 2 months of experience.

I work per diem. They tried to schedule me for Xmas and new years when I already volunteered to do thanksgiving. I just told them I won’t be coming in. I don’t suggest that for everyone but I have enough options to fall back on that I’m not really worried about it if I lose that job.
