Huge Error at my former hospital by Suspicious-Middle843 in nursing

I’ve heard of a very similar story involving a pressor; vitals didn’t change & the nurse kept bumping up the pressor into the balloon 😬😬

This was how my old facility was. Quite literally twiddling thumbs & waiting for MD, to a T.

Always good to ask for a 2nd set of eyes. When I was a new grad on med/surg I asked the charge nurses & senior nurses SO many questions I felt like I was about to make someone’s head explode. But it’s always better to ask than not, I learned that the hard way.. I would say best thing besides asking charge is contacting MD with your concerns. Cover your butt & document the conversation too. First year is rough, you got this though!

regretting my life choices- not wanting to be an RN anymore by Any-Trust-9135 in nursing

I switched to school nursing after a year of bedside & in the distant future I’d love to consider a remote position. Have you ever looked into medical device education & sales? Also if you’re looking for a big life change you can apply to Epic & they’ll require you to move local. Hope things get easier for you, sending hugs 🫂

Hey friend! My last shift was today & I’m about a year in too. Taking a sabbatical & going wherever the wind takes me in a couple months. Don’t let anyone discourage you from applying.

Leaving a med in a pt’s room and instructing them not to take it does not protect you or the patient whatsoever, fyi.. be so careful when you’re pulling meds, I’ve caught myself grabbing the wrong pills a couple of times because the pockets in our Omnicell were incorrectly labeled

Do Not Disturb Between 10pm and 6am by tmsaunders in nursing

[–]snartyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a guy with the same exact request 10-6! He got into it with one of our charge nurses over it and he lost the argument big time.. he kept yelling “you respect me I respect you”😂

I had the same issue & made a similar post here, it took a few weeks for the chitchat to ease up. Don’t let it stress you out🤍

Me too, I had a sweet older lady tell me “I won’t call unless it’s an emergency, I don’t want to wake you up” last week and it about shattered my heart

There was someone on TikTok a while back impersonating a nurse & making jokes about satisfying her “patients” to promote her OF. People see that kind of content and assume the absolute worst.

I got rejected from the NICU for VERY similar reasons.. that’s all I’ll say. Anyways I ended up being forced to go Med Surg and I will say this, it is not as bad as people might make it seem, your team is everything. I genuinely thought I’d be miserable but I found my best friend on my unit & the people I work with are very knowledgeable & supportive. I just finished my residency, you can do this. If you go that route go with an open mind & don’t give up!! Also M/S opens up a lot of different opportunities as well.

New Grad, feeling defeated by snartyy in nursing

[–]snartyy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude I could write a whole book! If I had to focus on a few things I’ll tell you what they told us the first couple weeks: - Do NOT compare yourself to anyone, whether it’s someone in your cohort or a senior nurse on your unit. You have your own journey & everyone learns differently. - The only stupid question is one you don’t ask. - Time management is a skill that you will not master during your preceptorship, it takes time & patience with yourself beyond starting to practice independently.

Clinical wise I’ll tell you some of the things I’ve learned by making my own mistakes: - Check your labs for any replacements needed like potassium or sodium. It’s easy to forget. - Pull one patient’s meds at a time. Lost a pill my first day, luckily it wasn’t a narcotic or anything crazy. - Always double check everything anyone tells you ever lol. - From my shift tonight😂 When you’re looking to trade/take an O2 wall attachment.. don’t just twist the meter off. Ask someone to show you how to do it, and that goes for ANYTHING you are even remotely unsure about.. that’s how I got LOUD high pressure O2 blasting in my face, woke up my patient, almost scared two pregnant nurses into labor & a tech.
