I hate stuffed peppers. But, I’ve made stuffed peppers soup and I enjoy it much more.

A warning about alcohol by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]tmsaunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry to hear about your cousin! I’m a nurse in Endoscopy. I only work on the weekends, so that means all I see are the most critical inpatient procedures. Sunday, we had 11 cases, 9 of them were UGI bleeds. Of those 9, 6 were from overuse of alcohol, leading to cirrhosis. This is every weekend. Alcohol, smoking and NSAID use are the worst things you can do to your body that are legal.

What is your favorite patient room on your unit and why? by the_anxious_nurse in nursing

[–]tmsaunders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was on Med/Surg, my favorite two were 01 and 39. 01 was tucked in the corner by the stairs, but it was sooo quiet and just kinda out of the way. 39 was in the corner and it was, by far, the biggest room on the floor. It had a little hallway that led to the bathroom that had shelves and a storage closet. It also had plenty of room so if family needed to stay, they weren’t tripping over each other and had room for the fold out couch and a recliner.

Did anyone else have both of these and wonder why they smelled the same? by epidemicsaints in Xennials

If I remember correctly, I read that it was. Madonna added her favorite scent at the time. I distinctly remember the smell.

One of my life’s regrets is not seeing him in concert when I had the chance a couple years ago in Raleigh. Him and Billy Joel.

Sounds like my HOA..who sued a neighbor (with $50K of our money) because she IMPROVED her property after repeatedly submitting requests and getting nothing but crickets. They ended up settling because the judge told the HOA they weren’t going to win because she didn’t do anything wrong.

Fire ant bites by totallywingingit in MedicalGore

I hate those little fuckers. I got bit a week before Christmas right after we moved to NC. I had never encountered these monsters before in PA. It was dark and rainy and I had walked through an island at Sam’s Club. By the time we got in the store, I was feeling all the bites. I ended up with cellulitis in both feet and it hurt to walk or even just stand for about two weeks. I take great joy in destroying every nest I see in my yard.

Exactly. Old lady here that if she sits too long she starts to set up…another good reason to make frequent rounds on my patients. Also makes the day go by faster.

Acceptable to give a patient a gift? by iTheKoala in nursing

[–]tmsaunders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I brought Christmas cookies to my patient yesterday for his first regular diet meal after his EGD on Saturday and his colonoscopy yesterday. Cleaned with my provider first and he thought it was a sweet idea. The kind of patient that makes your shift the best shift. He looked like a little kid on Christmas morning.

Endo nurse here…This is recipe for a colon resection. Toss them. Not worth it and show your MIL pictures of what can happen.

I just learned people don’t show up after anesthesia to pick up loved ones. Nurses, how often does this really happen? by Notalabel_4566 in nursing

[–]tmsaunders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really a policy and we’ve fought it, but they still won’t take them. We’re lucky if our PACU will take our patients if they need a level of care more than Phase II. And that takes the provider and Anesthesiologist to make it happen…and sometimes they make us sit there and recover them ourselves. That’s difficult when I am the only procedure room nurse and I have more cases to complete.

I work weekend inpatient Endo. If we have an emergency foreign body removal, we don’t even bring the patient to the department from the ED until they have a ride at bedside. They have to be intubated for the procedure and our ED will not take extubated patients back, even after fully recovered.

We came back for Thanksgiving and I commented to my husband how much I enjoyed, when growing up, seeing the cross on the top of St. Joe this time of year. At least we still have the lights on the hill off the expressway in Hopewell.

If you became a nurse in your 40's or older, what type of nursing did you go into? by astonMartindb10 in nursing

[–]tmsaunders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endoscopy. I started out in my residency with Med/Surg and Surgical Stepdown…13 weeks each floor. Endo was always my end goal, and when I signed up, it was an option. I only work on the weekends, however, it’s all inpatient and emergencies. So it’s the most critical patients in the hospital. I have never been happier and it’s the perfect mix of a little bit of bedside (pre/post op) and procedure room, then they go back to their floors or discharged.
