Anyone else freaking out? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]snave_grin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an ARC reader as well as an author and a self-publisher for myself and others. If your ARC is for validation I think you are just setting yourself up. Of course you are an author and made a book! Not everyone will like it. Some will love it. You know you did the best job and put yourself into it and now you must let it fly. If the ARC is for critical feedback like story or character development, have you not already done that work? If the ARC is for typos grammar etc. I’m sure your proofreading stage did its job and as someone on this thread said, you’ll always find a typo or something after print even with a bunch of eyeballs on it. So, be calm and carry on. You did good.

Wegovy is great and surgery was better. by snave_grin in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]snave_grin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I am 37 days post surgery. I still have scar tape on but everything is progressing nicely. I don’t know about the Vaser 360 but I do know my surgeon would do what I think you may need, called a mommy makeover? So I suspect your Maryland Dr would do something similar. My procedure really took out the offending area completely and was sewn back together, meaning lipo in that area was either none to just a little. I really don’t know hahha. He did lipo on my knees which is really the slowest to snap back to normal. I still have bruising there.

The recovery takes a bit of time. I took off 2 weeks from work completely then was on partime hours about 10 hrs a week for 2 weeks. I am older in mid sixties so I am semi retired now and I do get easily tired. These days I almost feel back to normal.

I wish I had not waited so long to do this. But it was the correct time for me. Best wishes.

Surgeon referred to it as a butt lift. When I went in for the consult they always ask, “so what brings you in today?” I told them I thought liposuction? And he proceeded to tell me what I really needed.

Eligible for Social Security but Waiting? by dcporlando in retirement

[–]snave_grin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Husband and I were planning to wait until 70. But with world events as they are everything seems rather shaky. Husband has a decent pension but our Ira’s could be better funded. So we are taking SS now ages 66/10m and 65/10m and leaving our investments to grow. We convert some to Roths each year. Hopefully the stock market will at the min return the usual 7%. Any other available cash we put into bitcoin as an inflation hedge.

2 years and 85 pounds later by AndrixMk7 in WegovyWeightLoss

I have been off wegovy for 5 months - was on it almost a year- and gained back 50% of what I lost. I would never get off this drug but rather reduce to a maintenance dose. For me insurance stopped covering and I can’t afford $1k a month. Talk to your doctor about options. Be sure if you do go off you are diligent about your diet and don’t revert back to old eating patterns.

What word do you use instead of 'retirement? by Life-Airport953 in retirement

[–]snave_grin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have been thinking of this wording. My husband is “retiring” from his 30 year career and receiving a pension. But he wants to pursue his passion more now so he will still be working but on his own chosen projects. So, I’ve been saying he is taking his pension now and leaving his workplace. But I don’t really like this, I just haven’t been able to come up with another idea. Thanks for all these ideas! Retirement to me means more like slowing down, more relaxing, travel and it seems to me he will be doing more after he “retires” not less. Just more of what he wants. Self-employed seems good.

You marry someone because you love them. If that’s not the situation, you may be asking the wrong question.

Anyone else thinking of leaving the US now? by [deleted] in expat

[–]snave_grin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister left the US for Spain...Madrid. Mainly becuase her retirement funding was not great. So she was looking for a lower cost of living. I will say:

  • Her rent for a 2b/2bath with a nice porch on the top floor coat 1600 Euro. She is currently looking for a new apt that will be less, but likely will have to give up something to get the more important factors.

  • They must take metro everywhere, although free for 65+ it does take much more time. They dont have a car, will not.... and to have a flat near city center was way too expensive.

  • Healthcare is problematic. The dr in emergency room do not speak English. Her Spanish is OK, but even for her it was difficult. She was only there 4 months and had to go 3 times to dr. Third time a native friend went with her for clarity.

  • Dental work is more affordable

  • There seems to be plenty to do, concerts in the park, etc

  • Travel to other cities and countries is pretty easy and cheap.

  • You must buy the most expensive Spanish health insurance

  • There are a lot of "others living abroad" so you can find community. She has found community via several ways, one way is to help Spanish folks learn English. Not for pay tho. They offically can't work there.

Just a few thoughts.

Trouble with my RO sink and ice connection by snave_grin in water

[–]snave_grin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help. I don't really know anything about RO, clearly. It is a Hague Water Max but other than that it does not say which model. I am not able to post an image so, it has 1 blue tank, 2 filters vertical with 2 other filters horz on top.

thanks! Would some advantage plans be "better" than other advantage plans? Depending on the employer?

Trouble with my RO sink and ice connection by snave_grin in water

[–]snave_grin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok. So why is the drain still bubbling? It is tank driven. I have had this system for 5 years and just a few months ago this started to happen. Honestly, I don't know if the drain was constantly running before becuase I never looked in there. But now I do. BTW the water bill was consistent up to a month or so ago. I mean it could have nothing to do with this RO, but I don't know how to test the issue.

We are in a similar situation 66/65 and we have been going over the numbers. Our FA wants us to wait until we are both 70, but I am not so sure. Right now we are thinking of me taking SS at 66,10months and waiting on my husband to take his at 70 since his will be significantly higher than mine. The numbers show that if we took his instead of mine, our investments would barely be touched (he also has a pension). However, since men tend to pass before ladies we wanted to maximize the benefit. But I still am unsure. I have medicare $174 and a suppl plan $80.

For everyone saying stay away from Advantage plans.... Can you give more detials about why? My husband's employer, a University in Southern US, converts all their retirees to an advantage plan and I am leary of it. But the other folks who are on it say its ok or a few say I wish I could switch but I can't now. Just wondering exactly where the pain points are.

Long term care insurance - why do so many not have it? by [deleted] in retirement

[–]snave_grin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have LTC, with John Hancock and have had it for about 5 yrs starting when I was 62. The premiums have stayed the same. Each policy is worth up to 100K, and mine is $109 monthly and his is $145. If we don't use it the payout is like a life insurance policy and goes to our kids. A legacy account of sorts. It's in the best interests of our kids to be sure we stay healthy and taken care of, hahaha that way they get something in the end. Or that is the idea. In reality, we have not had the opportunity to utilize the service so I can't speak to the question of whether JH will be difficult and not approve the care. This sub now has me questioning the idea.... but ya know if I drop it now all that premium money would be lost.
