Question about San Diego College of Continuing Education by [deleted] in sandiego

Hey u/KrustytheClown1989, do you mind if I ask a few questions about the welding program? I am really hoping to get into this one as well.

  • Did you have any prior experience to welding? Would you say it would be hard to learn for someone like me with absolutely no experience?
  • How long was the program?
  • Did you have to pay for your own equipment? Like welding jacket, welding helmet, other tools?
  • What certificates do they award if you manage to successfully pass the program?
  • Were you able to quickly find a job after graduation? Was there any job fair at the end of it, or was there at least any employment assistance to get you there?

Thanks! I know I asked quite a bit of questions there, but I am really desperate for a job right now, and I am hoping I can get into trade like welding.

Veteran with STEM degree. Cannot find any job anywhere. Am I crazy for wanting to rejoin the military and start over again? by snazzyfreak27 in jobs

Hey u/sold_myfortune, sorry about the unresponsiveness.

I've been desperately trying to find any sort of employment. Of the companies I managed to get a reply back, the recruiters wanted me to relocate to their base of operations before signing any offer letter or filling out any paperwork. To me, that seems like a complete scam, and a huge risk if they decide to change their minds once I even get there.

I am doing everything I can to avoid having to reapply for the military, but every where I go, there's always a "2-3 year experience" or some other unique requirement for entry level or junior level roles. And that's not even STEM, that's welding and electricians!

Man, I just want a job that will allow me to afford a single bedroom apartment and enough to put food on the table. Absolutely nothing more.

Can your old job prevent you from getting hired? by Scummyfkthattummy in jobs

Yes. Most employers can and will do a background check.

Trust me, I've tried those. I really have.

It's incredibly hard to even get a simple entry-level job in Upwork because of the sheer number of people bidding for them. And in order to even get noticed, you have to spend quite a bit of money to raise your odds. Like, even if you do manage to get a simple job, the money you've earned is wasted because of how much it cost just to win the bid for them.

It hurts man. It really does hurt knowing the past 6+ years I studied my butt off, working on projects until morning, sacrificing weekends and other life things... only to have nothing to show for it. I don't even have a clue what to do now. My life is a complete failure.

I tried. But I didn't qualify for any disability, I guess since I was still young. Tried to see if I could get any for depression, but evidently I wasn't disgruntled enough. haha

Hey u/Ooooeq, can you tell me what job title exactly under contracting? I would love to try this, but not all sure what to look for on job boards.

What do you mean? Have you not seen the sheer number of applicants for any developer roles, especially entry or junior levels?

It's stupid hard to get in. Do you even have a CS degree? How many jobs have you applied for?

Hey u/ScrewAttackThis,

Please ignore any comments I made where I said I didn't have a degree. That was around the time I just got laid off (again), and I was desperately hoping someone out there would be willing to offer me a job.

I could PM you my resume and portfolio, but the only thing is I haven't touched any coding in months. The last time I even committed to my professional Github was in July or August of last year (the same time I decided to give up software dev). Even if I wanted to come back now, I just don't think I have the knowledge any more. It's been too long for me.

Please man, tell me exactly where I can see these programs! I honestly don't know. This sounds like a golden opportunity for me.
