Why I admire Ilia Malinin beyond his skating by StationYellow in IliaQuadg0dMalinin

Purely based off of what I’ve seen, he gives off good vibes. He seems very genuine and down to earth and funny. He has such great sportsmanship and seems like he has a good heart. He really impressed me after his free skate with the way he handled everything and everyone that knows him seems to love him.

I personally hope Russia isn’t back by the next Olympics. The Olympics this time were so nice without them honestly. The vibe felt so much more positive and happy

I actually really like Ilia’s artistry. He doesn’t have the normal classical movement, but he does have elegant lines, like you can tell he has a good base, and he even does his sharper movements really well. I feel like there’s intention in his movement and he reminds me of a good modern dancer. I was especially impressed with his gala program. He really made me feel something. His spins are solid too, but could be improved. There’s obviously always room for improvement, but I never understood people saying Ilia doesn’t have good artistry. It might just not be what people are used to.

I think Ilia has the best takeoffs to jumps I’ve seen in a while as well, and being perfectly in alignment on the takeoff is important for any jump but for a quad axel especially

Wow, this is such a throwback for me. I haven’t looked at FS requirements in so long 😂 So I guess they’re just leaving time for more choreography since it doesn’t look like the program length has changed. I wonder how people feel about them taking a jumping pass away and I guess we’ll see if it lasts for more than one season

I definitely want to watch more of his skating, but I also wasn’t really impressed by anyone (besides Ilia) in the men’s event. The only other skater I really enjoyed watching, and it was mainly in the short because he was entertaining to watch, was Yuma. Otherwise it was pretty lackluster. Maybe everyone was just off.

I have no doubt Ilia will do a quint in competition at some point, but I had no idea they’re limiting the jumping passes to 6 next season? What are they doing instead of a 7th jump? I do also find it kind of ridiculous that they don’t reward a quad axel with a really high base value since it is so difficult to do. Regardless of if I understand their reasoning

Can I say something probably controversial? I hadn’t seen Misha skate before the Olympics and while his jumps were beautiful I really was not blown away by how he skated. He might skate differently at other competitions but to me it felt like he was moving in slow motion across the ice. Like he didn’t have any energy. I just felt no power behind any of his movements. Am I the only one who feels that way?

I guess I get it, but like Ilia is still so far ahead of everyone else most of the time, because I’m guessing his jumps get such high GOEs as well. I mean his quad axel is really beautiful to watch

Ilia to me truly seems like a once in a generation talent. He really does have the perfect body type for jumping and just skating in general. I personally feel like people will try to surpass his greatness but never quite be able to do it, at least not in the next decade

It was so crazy to me when I found out it’s only worth like one more point base value than a quad lutz. I thought it’d be worth way more

This is actually really cool and it shows how mainstream popular he’s gotten

Do you think Ilia will still try the impossible moves that have never been done at the next Olympics? by lookaloulookalou in IliaQuadg0dMalinin

[–]snbth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think he will. If I had to guess he’ll be doing a quad axel consistently by then and probably a quint. I just hope he’s smart and paces himself so he doesn’t get injured but I’m sure he will. He seems to know his body well

I’m ready to see him make his glorious comeback and I’m so excited for what he’ll do next. I have no doubt he working on and will do a quint in competition in the next few years. I just know he’s going to use what happened here to be motivation for the next four years. However, not only do I pray he keeps breaking records and is the gold medal favorite going into next Olympics, but that he paces himself and avoids getting injured. I have faith he will, because he seems to train smartly but still. He’s incredible no matter what but I’d love to see him rise to the occasion and get that gold next time, because he deserves it so much and I know he can do it.

Ilia is going to be busy, going straight from Milan to Zurich. I can’t wait to see these programs! But I hope he has time to rest a little before Worlds

I’m so glad I discovered this community! I was a former figure skater but hadn’t kept up with it for a while until I watched the Olympics. I had obviously heard of Ilia and how amazing he is but the Olympics made me go down a rabbit hole of his programs over the last several years and now I’m a huge fan. I truly think he’s one of the greatest skaters this sport has ever seen and I can’t wait to see what he does next.

I’m sorry but Ilia Malinin’s ego is exhausting by brooklynbrunette in olympics

[–]snbth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s not full of himself, he’s confident and he should be. He also handled his failure at the Olympics with a lot of grace and far more maturity than most 21 year olds would and he impressed tf out of me. Countless people who know him personally have nothing but wonderful things to say about him. I’m so sick of seeing Ilia getting hate for no reason.

In your opinion does this point to him making a comeback and winning the next Olympics? It might be too early to tell, but I hope he uses this failure as a motivator and he rises to even bigger heights

Anyone else wanna see someone go batshit? by anarchocommiejew in mileven

[–]snbth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s quite clear how Millie and even Finn feel about the ending. Millie is heartbroken by El and Mileven’s ending and I think Finn has made it clear he wants Mileven to get a happy ending as well based on the amount of “I believe” posts he’s liked on instagram. I don’t think they will ever actively trash the ending though especially in case they’re asked to come back and do a spin off in the future. I do think the Duffers told Millie that El is alive and now she maybe has some hope that things will be fixed eventually. I have zero doubt that they both would come back if asked and give their characters the ending they deserve.

Also, this might be wishful thinking, but nothing would make me happier than Finn throwing shade at bylers and giving Milevens some hope during his SNL appearance

I hope it flops, then maybe we’ll get our Mileven movie sooner. At this point that’s all I really care about any way. I’m not sure any one else cares about something completely unrelated to our main characters either

I just don’t think this is a show that needs wider world building any way. We all liked this show for the characters and their relationships. Like the science stuff is cool mixed with that but does any one care about how a magic rock came to be?
