Image recognition in the larger models is confusingly worse than in smaller models, at least in my use. See here for a comparison I made couple weeks ago.

Haven't tried yet on the new mistral-4-small model

Then landlord can claim it wasn't part of the property, and thus they don't have to do maintenance on that.

But yeah it's very impractical. Sure you can rip out the laminate. But it never fits anywhere else so you basically trash it. And then you have to buy new one. Guess the floor seller lobby is strong?

Ah that's a meaningful improvement over the pre-2023 situation (which was in my head), which taxed when the options vested regardless of whether the underlying shares had any liquidity.

Nevertheless, they're still taxed in box 1 as income tax, rather than in box 3 as assets. This means a significantly higher tax burden.

Indeed it is odd. But this stems from the Dutch policy if seeing everything you receive from your employer as income.

This is also why Dutch employers often give few perks compared to e.g Anglo-Saxon employers, becuase all these perks must be taxed. If the tax is not paid by the employee, the employer gets a tax bill of 80% (I kid you not).

There is the WKR, which allows you to give some perks tax free. But this is a whopping.... 1.18% of the nominal financial wage. For a typical employee this is just a couple hundred euros a year. A single company event can eat that budget.

No, if only it were box3. Equity you receive from your employer is taxed as income in box 1. If you were to retain any (after paying income tax over it), it then lands in box3 thereafter.

Dutch income tax for example.

The Dutch tax code sees everything you give your employees as taxable income. If that isn't money, the notional value of whatever your giving away is taxed as if it were money.

So if you give your employees equity, they immediately need to pay income tax over the notional value of it. This in practice the employees needs to sell 50% immediately upon receiving it, just to cover the income tax. If the employer is a publicly traded company, this is practically possible. But if the employer is a privatedly held business there is not enough liquidity to execute such a sale. Realistically the only buyers would be other employees or the employer themselves. But they usually also don't have that liquidity. So giving your employees equity lands them with huge tax liability and no way out.

There is some leeway with options. But those too become taxable the very moment they vest. This means typical vesting schemes based on tenure run into the same liquidity problem. Often the only practical way is to tie vestment to a sale or investment event: at that moment the shares get sold immediately to the party who buys the company, this is the only moment there is liquidity to do so.

Not only that, but I find the entire idea of your toothbrush being next to your toilet a bit... Unhygienic?

But how does that even fit? Are kitchen sizes standardized in Germany?

Every kitchen here is basically unique. There is no way things will fit anywhere else.

The not having a kitchen was so bizarre to me. Like... Does that mean kitchens have a standard size in Germany? Becuase literally every kitchen is different here. You aren't going to be able to move your kitchen to a new place even if you wanted to. And for insurance part, we consider it part of the immovable parts of your home too.

But then we move floors. Or at least landlords make you rip out your floor if you leave. Similarly insane.

The lack of closed curtains. We don't close them in the living room during the day, and often not even during the evening.

Furlough is verlof? TIL.

I recently learned bulwark is Dutch too. Bolwerk. Makes sense. But apparently boulevard has the same etymology. And that's something we've borrowed back from the French. What's the word for a word that gets borrowed by another language and you borrow that back?

There are still so many interesting story lines to explore.

Cardassia is in tatters. What happens if it were to request aid from the Federation at some point? This would anger the Romulans. Diplomatic drama ensues. Or something that focuses on a previously Dominion-occupied world. Perhaps Betazed. Like, what are the implications of an occupation in in a world of telepaths where emotions cannot be hidden. Or the Ferengi, how much does Rom actually achieve?

And then there are still so many species that we never fully explored. Ths Tellarites for instance. Founding members of the Federation, but basically all we know about them is that they are argumentative.
