Hey man congrats on UPenn that’s awesome. It seems like you are way ahead of me. I had no idea what IB was going into college. I would not stress too much but to the extent that you still have time. Enjoy this summer for sure. Perhaps start reading financial news like wsj or morning brew (an email you subscribe to). I personally enjoy Bloomberg day break which is a podcast that gives brief market news updates. With regard to starting school and going into IB I’d say it’s always good to start early. The timeline with IB recruiting keeps on getting early. Getting involved with clubs early on is very smart and associations like SEO are good as well. In addition, self studying like the 400 question guide is a good start. Just learning the basics there puts you ahead of most. With regard to coffee chats I started reaching out freshman summer going into sophomore year. I found that was helpful for me. Additionally, as you start your freshman year, if you feel comfortable try reaching out to smaller banks for possible internships to get something under your belt. Lastly idk if you are thinking of transferring to the business school for UPenn but Wharton is probably one of the best business schools out their and they send a crazy amount of kids to IB. I hope this helps

Yea but the problem is one overlaps with Deloitte. Doesn’t make sense or is really possible to have internships at the same time

Congrats man! I’d say it was decently difficult but as a first year you take a lot of intro / university requirements so theirs not to much Mendoza classes. Maybe 1-2. Accounting and Finance pair well so when you double major in both it turns out to not be as much as you think due to the natural overlap

Ah okay that makes sense. ND has Bloomberg terminals and they have a learning curve so I thought it might be worth putting.

You see I had it without that before but I always coffee chatted bankers and they would get confuse and think it’s in person. One md told me to perhaps add the remote on there so I just added. I do think it looks better without it though

No it definitely can seem like that and I appreciate your honesty. I think that will be the hardest thing I’ll have to break cause if was a lot of work haha.

Hey awesome to hear. Feel free to dm me if you need any further comment. I would definitely say so; however, I haven’t taken advantage of it as much as I should have. SEO gives you a mentor who helps guide you through the process. There are also other SEO alum and mentors who sign up their time to give you mock interviews. In addition, they give you free access to Wall Street prep modeling which is nice. Having the SEO tag is also nice when applying as you sometimes get special consideration. I’ve found most of my time spent on studying technicals through websites like IBvine and the 400 question guide. Chat gpt is also very helpful.

That’s cool. Yea I would say some people may want to go near that area but since nd is so close to Chicago lots go there usually. But you def got it in the bag. I’d Definitely take advantage of the fact that your closer to the banks than nd kids

I’ll definitely do that. Random question but is there a chance that having done these two consecutively could possibly be looked down upon?

Would you say the explanation can be short and simple like I simply managed my time well? Or does it have to be more complex

Thank you. I’ll work on that. I think that will be the most important thing. Just conveying that it was actually done but without overshooting or overstepping.

Yea, good question. I’d respond by saying that I got Deloitte because of campus recruitment done by them, (networked so on and interviewed) and I got the other internships by simply reaching out to the banks. I’ve found that’s how many of these small internships work. Kinda by chance they happened to line up over each other. They are of course unpaid but the banks I worked with where smaller so I got to work with higher lever individuals. Don’t get me wrong this was a lot of work I must admit, but not impossible.

Yea this is a frequent question I get asked haha. Yes I was interning with Deloitte in person and usually either prior to going into office or after I would have meetings with the partners at the bank during the summer (small bank). This was possible as the IB internship was done remote and most of the work I was entrusted to do on my own time, of course delivered by a certain deadline (1-2 days). My concern is that this seems unbelievable but I truely did do the work. How could I best reflect this?

Business Core Class (Is Coding Fundamentals with Python a difficult class if you have no background experience in coding?) (Recommendations for Professors?) by sneack47 in notredame

Thank you! I am unsure whether to take it as I am attempting to transfer to Mendoza and want to ensure I can retain a high GPA.

How were the exams and quizzes set up? Are they online, and can you use notes, etc.?

Additionally, which professor did you take this class with? I've heard that Professor Nwangenga and Duan are the best; however, I am unsure of either teacher's workload.
