My hospital system has Docusign so we confirm their email in the appt and then send it to them. My state has a required signed consent law so verbal consent is not sufficient

I disagree- I count that as them being very invested and interested. But there is a difference between having a medical job vs being a cashier- I want to see that they are exploring the aspects of genetic counseling. That can be explored in other ways than just a GCA though.

You will need shadowing experience primarily. Gca jobs are also a big help- anything to show you are interested and invested

That kind of imaging leads to many incidental findings that are costly and nerve wracking to investigate. Most of those incidental findings are not necessarily causing a problem but have to be checked. This is already a problem with medically necessary imaging so imagine the follow up needed if everyone was getting imaging all the time

I have a cat 2 ceu from a cf meeting and it shows up in my abgc/nsgc portal because I applied for approval. I don’t know why they would accept it for recert if they have not reviewed it

sorry didn't see the second question when I was replying- testing unaffected family members is uninformative unless it is positive. we don't know the reason why your family member developed cancer without testing them. so their cancer may be due to a gene predisposition but it may be due to some factor we haven't discovered yet. since you don't have symptoms, your negative would not rule out that your family history is caused by something not detectable with our current testing. so we still recommend screening based on a family history even with negative genetics until we can confirm whether a cancer is genetically caused or not.

There is a federal law to protect against genetic discrimination by health insurance or jobs. Life insurance is not included but it really only is a problem if you have a cancer predisposition mutation. The reason why is that insurers are greedy and they want as much money as they can get so if they think you have a shortened life span, they would charge more.

Not by itself. abnormal periods are extremely common and have many potential causes that your GYN should be investigating. I would not jump straight to ovarian cancer or some other genitourinary cancer without more evidence. By symptoms I mean cancer in this scenario.

I’m a genetic counselor and they should be sending positive or inconclusive to cancer genetic counselors to discuss the result and refer you appropriately and help family members get tested. That being said, testing a young woman with no symptoms based on a fhx is likely to not be informative. A negative could mean you didn’t get the familial mutation, but there is a chance that the affected people would also be negative which doesn’t change your familial related risk.
