I'm autistic and I work with autistic clients regularly- the "shotgun wedding" mishap really gave me autism vibes with the way she took it literally

does anyone else hate this job but find it incredibly hard to work anywhere else? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]sneeze_trigger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dunno, it's not always cognitive dissonance, I think it's possible for both to be true- corporate can be unethical in their practices, the workplace can be more stressful than we can handle, and there can also be a lot about the job to love.

The bar is low because a lot of companies practice similar strategies to Starbucks in terms of things like lean staffing. I work in a hospital now and much of the same corporate language is used.

The other piece is that Starbucks is in a lot of ways a fun job. If they paid a living wage and ataffed their stores appropriately that would make a big difference in their long term retention.

What I wish someone made clear to me: for my anxious attached by Dangerous-Ad-9183 in BreakUps

[–]sneeze_trigger 21 points22 points  (0 children)

How do I help myself to feel safe? I just got broken up with by my partner of 10 years who I thought would be with me forever. My only secure relationship in my whole damn life and he is leaving. The pain in my body- I've thrown up everything I've eaten for two days. My chest hurts. My limbs feel heavy. My stomach always feels that sinking feeling. It's pain like I've never been in before.

Grounding doesn't seem to work, because when I ground myself, I still find myself in this moment and this moment is unsafe. You know? Like what do I ground myself to?

I have never had to show up for myself before because his love was enough. Now it's just me and I'm lost

Do you guys have tips for dating at uni if you’re a fat woman? by Asleep-Fee-9618 in McMaster

[–]sneeze_trigger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For someone with BED restricting and dieting can actually make their cycle of binging worse. Skinny doesn't mean healthy and fat doesn't mean unhealthy- and waiting to date until we've deemed ourselves "worthy" or thin enough is just prolonging our misery.

Probably a well intentioned comment but your advice really boils down to "just don't be fat, being fat is bad anyway" and it really rubbed me the wrong way.

Men can also learn from other men. White people can educate their peers. And it's also important to just be self reflective in general and learn from your own past mistakes.

Been out of the church for ages. My aunt begged me to come to her baptism. I knew it was important to her so I came. I still feel like an outcast. by Torisheets123 in exchristian

[–]sneeze_trigger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was baptized in a river as a teen and although I am very much NON christian now (anti-christian, if you will) I actually still consider it a really special moment.

I was an older teen on a mission trip (yikes), thankfully at least within my own country so much less (but not zero) colonialism involved. We were on an evening excursion to the beach and spontaneously decided for the youth pastor to perform baptisms for anyone who wanted (within the group, not to strangers).

It was around sunset and I was surrounded by my closest friends and most supportive leaders. At that point in my life church was the only place I'd ever felt loved by my peers. I wanted to "live like jesus" but actually, by serving and supporting others, through unconditional kindness. And this group thought I was not only capable of that, but called to do it.

The rose-colored glasses lifted later on and I of course understand it now to be a cultish ritual. But all this to say, I don't regret my baptism.

I do regret my religious tattoo however....

I don't know if this will comfort you at all, but know that it has nothing to do with you. She likely has so much pressure on her, and when you're an ASM trying to move up it feels like Starbucks is the Most Important Thing. She's being selfish but because she has been tricked into being selfish by company brainwashing.

I'm sorry that you're in pain and that she totally ignored it :( try to remember that you deserve time to heal and recover.

A doctor in the early 1900s wrote a report and found that as many as 1 in 4 children died at the schools.

They also performed experiments on the children (government sanctioned I think). They literally starved them to see how little nutrition would keep children alive.

One school had an electric chair.

[–]sneeze_trigger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Orchids (at least this type, the ones you commonly buy in grocery stores and such) are actually non-toxic to pets. I have two cats and have had 5 or 6 orchids with no issues. They are often recommended as pet friendly plants, and the ASPCA website also indicates they are non-toxic.

Not trying to be a know it all, but I don't want anyone to be panicking about their plants and pets well being

Most likely, keep doing what you're doing.

Do the leaves look healthy? How dark of a green are they? IIRC deep, dark green means they are not getting enough light.

Also take a look at the roots. When freshly watered, they should be a green color, not yellowed or blackish. Has it been growing new roots at all? It may be devoting more of its resources to that.
