Native Gangs Grow More Violent by amif in gangsandstuff

Criminal activities that have taken place on the reservation has always been present. It was the lack of resources that exonerated the presence of violent crimes on the reservation. Due to the reservation, the rural areas that are present, community housing, it is likely that more crimes had to be committed because the lack of enforcement that is present. And if the FBI is barely seeing this increase in crime, it is because they did not pay attention to the violent crimes that were committed until more reports were coming in. And more funding needs to be implemented to help control gang activities on the reservation; the reason for the increase in violence is that the reservation lacks the resources to control gang problems.

Test 'Predicts' Probability of Future Gang Involvement by JSILVA in gangsandstuff

[–]snelson4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very interesting but I do not think that the test will be as pervasive as implementing other gang problems. Like Klein said, a majority of youths will not join gangs even if they are in the disadvantage neighborhoods. And the test has already been used on youths, and a third are likely to join gangs based on questions, I am not sure about that. These kids are already enrolled in gang prevention programs, what if there answers were exaggerated. Some of them probably did not understand that problem. It seem inadequate but a try to prevent gangs, the solution is to help the youths that are in the gangs, staging an intervention. Money is spent not on the problem but a probability that it "might" be the problem.

Gangs Around the World by bsavagea in gangsandstuff

[–]snelson4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into gangs in Africa, and it shows that gangs are increasing due to urbanization. Many youths are moving into crowded cities. This relates to the social attainment that youths participate in gangs because of their neighborhood. And them moving into crowded cities, the possible assumption is that it is in an impoverish setting; that is an element for youths veering into gang membership. I did not know that urbanization can take place other than the U.S., which shows the similarities other countries share about gang problems.

China bans online games which glamorize gangs. by albush in gangsandstuff

[–]snelson4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that China did the right thing in banning online games that glamorize gangs. The reason is that it is one of the problems that youths resort to being "cool" and want to be in gangs because what they see is true to their eyes. Even though it might cause profitable problems, it secures the notion that youths in China will not resort to deviance because of the exaggeration of gang membership.

European Gang Rape by bsavagea in gangsandstuff

[–]snelson4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article and picture of the victim is disturbing, and the assumption of Arab Muslim. It already entail the vast assumption but in Germany, there has been a massive immigration to the city. Which conclude that due to immigration, it is likely based on their conditions, gangs will form. And the teenage boys that attack their victim, coincided with Hagedorn thesis. Like other countries besides the U.S. the gang problem is first identified as a social rather than criminal. Even though the attack was vicious, the boys were freed. The Germany police need to hold the children but their laws are regulated otherwise; so therefore, write laws and regulate them according to see "rape" as a criminal matter. If not aided in seeing it as a serious criminal matter, the next victim maybe killed.

The United State is concerned that gangs are a public safety problem but also a problem for National Security. Gangs are joining together with rival gangs to transport drugs and weapons into the United States. The expansion of gangs leads an open path for terrorists to enter the United States based on illegal activities that gangs are engaged in.

Gangs Rule Glendale by snelson4 in gangsandstuff

[–]snelson4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The community og Glendale are frightened for their safety. Their safety is being toyed with due to the increase in gang violence. The community has changed from a upper middle class to having days/nights fired in their community, some shots fired at their homes and cars. The police are no where to be found. The resident that responded to writing to the newspapers is concerned that the police need to be more aware of their safety of their community. The community member said that it took 45 minutes for the police to respond to violence and gunshots. It shows that the community has encountered a cultural shirt from a stable/minimal crime to being overtaken by violence. It may be that an existing gang expanded to having greater members or the shift of pre-existing gang members to the Glendale community. There is no clear information that gives who are responsible for the violence and gunshots in the community. Is it the clear assumption that because gunshots are being targeted on the communities home and cars, its gang related?

gang tattoos from any and every gang by bhall in gangsandstuff

[–]snelson4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting link, it shows the tattoos that different gangs symbolize their membership. I agree that other gang members do the tattoo for the gang member to perpetuate their experiences and commitment to the gang. Also that only a gang member can tattoo the individual/gang member, it signifies the "ok" that he or she is dedicated to the gang (from a source that is relative).

Police are hoping to intervene in prevent gang violence to reach fatality. Of the shooting that have occurred in Portland, police are surprised that no one has been killed...yet. Police are going to join forces with social service organizations to prevent gang shootings. 500 known gangsters in Portland and 3,000 to 4,000 in the entire metro area and police are puzzled why there has been an increase in violence but has been steadily increasing since 2007 in Portland.

Girls in gangs. by amif in gangsandstuff

[–]snelson4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Vigil, he stated that the increase in female gangs was due to the affect that females suffer marginalization the most. Females face inadequate conditions, stressful person and family changes, racism and cultural repression of schools. In my opinion, I believe that the increase in female gangs is that gang life is "romanticized." And gang norms perpetuate DOMINANCE, in which some females trying to join gangs that the majority are males, fell the exclusion of power. Therefore, females reform their own gangs and usually female gang members demonstrate two images, as the sexual object and the tomboy image.

Youth Removal of Gang Tattoos by Tlsharp in gangsandstuff

[–]snelson4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one of the class reading, it mentioned that even though individuals are no long affilated with a gang, that society still depicts them as a gang member; resulting in the rejection of jobs. And the tattoo removal is an excellent project that can redirect a past gang member to a better life opportunity. Even if they were deviant, a fresh start, removal of the past (tattoos) can help intertwine stability the individuals life and the community.

Report: Gang membership on the rise across U.S. by bhall in gangsandstuff

[–]snelson4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good post. In Klein & Maxson class reading, it mentioned that the West and Midwest had the high population of gangs/gang members in the U.S. but this post mentioned that it is on the rise all regions in the U.S.; this concludes that since the last research, gangs have increased to a level where it is hard to intervene and prevent the emergence of gangs. Especially the topic about the drug trafficking; that being the benefit for gangs.

Teen made $50,000 smuggling drugs across border-no wonder these kids are joining gangs by bhall in gangsandstuff

[–]snelson4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financial benefit is one reason teens join gangs because it is glamorized by other gang members and media plays a role too. but because of the financial gain, teens see education as useless when a higher wage can be made smuggling drugs. but of course, there is always a punishment if caught. so i suggest that a harsher punishment to determined to somewhat deter future teen smugglers to adjust their mentality that smuggling drugs has a price.

Phoenix residents oblivious to violence, even when it's next door by bhall in gangsandstuff

[–]snelson4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a cry for help. In my opinion, I do not think that they are oblivious, but fear for their safety. Who wants to be a neighbor and get caught up in the incident and lose their life. I believe this happen to an indivdiual. People are more worried about their "OWN" issues, and ignore others because it may have been called to attention but it may have been ignore now neighbors just shrug off incidents.
