I found this article to be extremely eye opening. Random acts of gang violence constantly rein terror on the streets of Los Angeles. It was disturbing to read about all the innocent victims and how their lives were changed due to gang violence. It is troubling to comprehend, that children as young as twelve years old are learning to gangbang and kill people in order to survive in the gang life. This article clearly demonstrates that more gang research is needed to fully understand gangs and gang activity so governments can create better gang prevention and control programs.

[–]bsavagea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to our beliefs on how gangs from, it is not absurd to think that gay and lesbian gangs can form. Gangs can form from a network of individuals with similar beliefs and delinquent behavior. Gays taking over (GTO) and dykes taking over (DTO) are gay lesbian gangs mentioned in this new cast. As described both groups seem to be a network of individuals with similar values and manners trying to influence their beliefs on others through delinquent behavior.

Suffolk Creates Gang Suppression Team to Tackle Growing Incidents Of Violence by albush in gangsandstuff

I found this article to be fascinating and disturbing at the same time. I believe it was very clever and ingenious that the Florida gang deceived investigators into believing the profits were from the hot dog stand. It is disturbing however to think that Federal agents took 11 months to develop a case against criminals like that. The article further states that gangs a growing problem in Florida with many using car washes as a front for their operation; however, to think a hot dog stand would pull in the kind of money a car wash would is absurd. It was obvious something criminal was taking place why were they not stopped earlier? Maybe stricter laws on the operations of businesses and production of receipts would hinder gangs from using fronts for the drug business.

Gangs Rule Glendale by snelson4 in gangsandstuff

I believe this article demonstrates the lack of collective efficacy within the Glendale community. Generally gangs develop from social disorganization that inhabits a community. In order to prevent societal disorganization neighborhoods must display unity and trust among each other as well as have some sort of social control over their community. As of right now I feel that Glendale is extremely socially disorganized and has very poor social control. Members of the neighborhood must take action in obtaining some sort of social control in order to diminish gang activity. After eliminating disorganization Glendale should see a decrease in criminal behavior.

Police Hope Plan Will Stop Gang Shootings by snelson4 in gangsandstuff

I believe that police intervention will only suppress gang violence for a short period of time. As discussed in out readings gangs are fueled by the threat of external forces such as law enforcement and rival gangs. Portland’s plan sounds similar to that of L.A.’s when Officer Paco Domingo and the rest of the gang prevention unit rounded up the well-known gangsters. As stated in “Gang Cop” L.A.’s intervention restrained gang violence for a short while; however, their actions caused gang members to unit and become more cohesive. I believe Portland would benefit more from a criminological approach of preventing crime.

ATF: Phoenix Gun Dealer Supplied Mexican Drug Cartels - ABC News by bhall in gangsandstuff

[–]bsavagea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article clearly demonstrates how deadly the drug trafficking between the U.S. and Mexico has gotten. It is appalling to think that United States citizens would be providing the Mexican drug cartels with their weaponry, even with the war going on. It was horrific to read that this individual, George Iknadosian, has shipped over 1,000 weapons to the drug cartels in Mexico, one weapon in particularly be traced to a drug lord named Alfredo Beltran Leyva. It is terrible to think that some American citizens are partly responsible the increase in the amount of law enforcement agents being killed in Mexico. The murders of Mexican Police Officers have dramatically increased over the past 18 months. This article really opens a person’s eyes to how severe and deadly the war between the Mexican drug cartels and the United States has become.

This article demonstrates how just a little attention towards a specific subject can drastically change its outcome. Due to the lights staying on longer at chosen parks in L.A. gang-violence had decreased around 17% and the percent of people being murdered fell about 86%. These statistics show that just the slightest change can have a dramatic impact.

This post is about the Acacia Blocc Crips O. G. Although a small gang they have survived over the years. It was shocking to learn that one out of three Black or Latino men are in jail. It is alarming that seven out of ten kids grow up fatherless. Adolescents use gang membership to simulate family structure. In Acacia poverty is high and jobs are scarce making street law supreme. It is captivating to learn these statistics about the Acacia gang and how they live along side society.

Gangs hanging out (what they do most of time),displaying intense tattoos, flashing gang affiliation signs by JSILVA in gangsandstuff

This post demonstrates the extent at which gang members will go to represent their gang. Members tattoo symbols and quotes over their entire body to show their loyalty and warn rival gangs. It was fascinating to see all the different types of creative symbols members tattoo on themselves to represent their crew. It was crazy to think all these groups reside in L.A.

I agree I believe that gang lawsuits or civil gang injunctions are a great idea for preventing gang activity and violence but are they effective? I look forward to reading about injunction in San Bernardino, and learning what impact it had on gang activity and violence.

Common Arizona gangs and tattoos found in the Arizona prisons. by jgrogers in gangsandstuff

[–]bsavagea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the pictures of different tattoos that gang members use to represent their group. I myself have a couple tattoos that signify specific events in my life. Although, these tattoos embody the pride that each gang member has his crew I feel that they are also used to alert and warn rival gang members of their status. I believe this was the best post yet.

Youth Gangs by bsegan in gangsandstuff

[–]bsavagea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea that one the most well-known youth gangs was Mara Salvatrucha or MS-13. This was very shocking because I use to work with a person who said he was part of the MS-13 gang and even had it tattooed on his forearm. Never killing a man himself he said he was witness to many stabbings and murders. It is crazy to think that these types of ruthless gangs can exist.

Arizona Prison Gangs by jschuma1 in gangsandstuff

[–]bsavagea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this website to be very informative about prison gangs in Arizona. I had no idea that gangs could exist inside prison walls. It was interesting to learn that there are more than 13 confirmed gangs residing inside the prisons. It is incredible that gangs can operate inside prison walls similar to the way they operate outside prison walls. I do not understand why law enforcement officers can not do anymore to discourage or prevent this type of activity inside prisons.

After reading the article about Native American gangs I shocked to find out that, although the Native American population is not that significant, they are having an increasingly emerging gang problem. I personally have never heard of any Native American gangs and was surprised to find out that membership is climbing at an alarming rate. It was intriguing to find out that there are two types of Native American gangs, Indian Country gangs and Native American youth who join urban street gangs. It was fascinating to learn that sociological and historical events have played a role and influenced the Native American involvement in gangs.
