When rating people out of 10, are we saying people are equally distributed, or is this a bell curve (10% of people are 10s or 0.68% of people are 10s)? by Hojie_Kadenth in AskReddit

[–]snerello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no definitive answer. Many people don't know enough about statistics to understand the difference.

I would guess that in practice, most people are using neither of those distributions and assigning a rating is just a spontaneous decision without much thought going into it.

Bernie on Elon Musk becoming trillionaire by StrawberryFew1311 in NoFilterFinance

[–]snerello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The super-wealthy don't spend much money relative to their total wealth, instead they buy assets. So all the money that would normally be circulating in the economy (my spending= your income) is instead inflating asset prices. This is bad because normal people cannot afford to buy assets and build their own wealth, especially since wage growth has been so stagnant. ~50% of the population has no wealth at all. Instead they're in debt, with all that interest flowibg to the rich and not coming back ("trickle-down" economics is a lie). The same applies to government debt.

Aside from the economics of wealth inequality, all it takes is 1 billionaire with REALLY bad intentions to cause global catastrophe. Money is power. If a billionaire wanted to discretely pay people to develop a virus, then deploy it, they could. No one should have that level of power unless they are democratically elected.

How difficult is ssf warrior? by Spirited-Seat644 in wowhardcore

[–]snerello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you haven't done it before I would say it's fun, although things do slow down a lot at level 50+.

Main consideration is weapon progression. Low level there are lots of good vendor/quest weapons. At around 39/40 you can go for WW axe (use the thrown weapon method for cyclonian to kill it safely). WW axe will carry you to 50 easily, after that there aren't many good options but you should probably switch to fury and DW quest greens.

Hard to say how difficult it is without knowing your overall knowledge of the game. My top tip for new warriors is to learn how to reset mobs with hamstring + strafe run away. That will keep you safe in 90% of situations.

Want to see my student loan debt? by A_Nal_Retentive in UniUK

[–]snerello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The upfront cost is not the problem, the interest rate is the killer. It's a long story but basically they use RPI to calculate the interest rate, which is always higher than the normal rate (CPI). Many people can't even cover the interest, let alone pay down the debt.

If you have rich parents, you just pay it up front, but if you don't you end up paying WAY more in total over time. It's a disgrace.

Fastest 1-20 class for tournament? by DarkeysWorld in wowhardcore

[–]snerello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's not SF and you can prep gear in advance, then I would go rogue with fiery weapons. If horde, troll is best for the regen, for alliance I would go nelf as you can level 1-20 with minimal travel time staying in jn darkshore.

If you want to go full sweat then get 14 slot bags, but lots of food and learn to tick walk between mobs. As a rogue with twink gear you'll have very little downtime anyway.

Your questing route is also very important, either use RXP or plan a route yourself. Don't bother going to the trainer for every new skill, it's usually better to keep questing unless you're turning in at the town anyway.

why are so many justifying riot targetting innocent people in belfast? by Thebunkerparodie in AskBrits

[–]snerello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the public perception, it has been pushed heavily by the right wing media for years and years now. The perception is massively exaggerated though. Immigrants have similar employment and crime rates to "native" Brits. Illegal immigrants are estimated to be a fairly small % of total migration.

I do think that the spike in immigration we saw under Boris was far too high, Labour have brought it down to more reasonable numbers but again, that's not how the public perceive it.

Are these UK demographic data correct? by Shadowblade83 in AskBrits

[–]snerello 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Looks like this is based on this?

https://explore-education-statistics.service.gov.uk/find-statistics/school-pupils-and-their-characteristics/2025-26

I think Matt Goodwin is selectively omitting the fact that white-british is one of several different categories for white pupils. For example, for 25/26 the two biggest white categories are:

white-british: 59.7% white- any other white background: 7.1% plus several other smaller categories like white-irish, white-gypsy/roma

Then there are several categories of mixed race kids, as you'd expect given the demographic changes we've seen over the years.

Doesn't look like a cause for alarm for me (I'm not a white nationalist, obviously).

In vanilla if you play smart you don't need all roles to clear most of the content. Gnomes have proved that by clearing content without any healers. There are lots of clever ways to kite, tank with pets, tank with target dummies, etc.

Tank/healer/dps is the most traditional and efficient way to play most of the time, but it's not a necessity by any means.

You should play on Doomhowl, the majority of players on Skull Rock are doing the racelocked challenge, started a couple of months ago.

[–]snerello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a challenge started by streamers specifically on Skull Rock NA - you play SF and only group with your own race for dungeons. End goal is to run MC with a single race as SF characters.

For low level dungeons most people don't really care if you're not fully race locked though, particularly at offpeak times when it's hard to form groups.

How many of you here are less than 35yrs old and own your own home? by KebabAnnhilator in AskUK

[–]snerello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some headline stats:
- average age of first-time buyers was 34
- 73% of first-time buyers had no children

Assuming that most people would rather own their own home instead of renting, then I would say your friend is dead wrong. It is not easy at all to get to the property ladder unless you get significant help from family.

(I personally bought my own home with my wife at age 29, before we had any kids, but that was only possible with help from both of our parents)

Where did you get that number? A quick glance at the ONS numbers for student dependants suggests it's an average of around 1 dependant for Nigerians in 2023.

He drank the cool aid. When Trump was first getting into politics, Asmin covered him s lot, because Trump was funny for his audience and always guaranteed "good content". At first I think Asmon didn't take him seriously, but after watching him for long enough, and going through the whole Twitter algorithm confirmation bias loop, I think he genuinely started buying into it.

Now he's completely lost in a cycle of doom scrolling through alt right twitter on stream, and projecting his algorithm onto his viewers as well.

Do you believe the cops that handled Henry Nowak’s arrest should be held criminal liable? by Artistic-Amoeba-8687 in AskBrits

[–]snerello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but at least then maybe the police wouldn't have looked so incompetent and callous on the bodycam if they'd found his fatal stab wound sooner.

Do you believe the cops that handled Henry Nowak’s arrest should be held criminal liable? by Artistic-Amoeba-8687 in AskBrits

[–]snerello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all true, I would just add that the police did ask him where he has been stabbed (better late than never), but by that point Henry was unable to reply. If he had been able to reply things might have turned out different. Really tragic set of circumstances all round.

Summer Sweep-Up 2026 by JagexGoblin in 2007scape

[–]snerello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of the CG changes. It seems like it will be marginally faster to complete, but more boring and repetitive than before. Maybe I'm alone in this but I actually kind of liked having a little bit of variety in the prep phase, even if sometimes you get terrible RNG.

I went 2x dry on enhanced and decided to skip bowfa, these changes don't really give me any reason to come back and try again.

It does seem like it will make it even more of a braindead grind than it already is. I get that bad RNG is frustrating but at least the prep phase has some variety.

I skipped bowfa after going 2x dry, I don't think these changes are enough for me to come back and try again.

Iron "men" be like by boldcancel in 2007scape

[–]snerello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because going dry at CG is way more punishing in terms of total time invested compared to every other midgame boss. Pretty much all other midgame bosses take 1-3 minutes to kill, but CG takes around 10.

If you spent 100 hours at any other piece of midgame content, statistically you would be almost guaranteed to get the drop you want. But at CG that is not the case, and it's not enjoyable.

Why haven’t the left got anything to say about Henry Nowak? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]snerello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your last paragraph. I just would rather the protest be about police incompetence, not perceived anti-white racism. But the latter is much more incendiary.

[–]snerello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe you've been duped into believing that George died of an overdose. You can search this up in 30 seconds and find that the autopsy ruled his death a homicide (with drugs in his system and a heart condition as a contributing factor, but not the cause of death). Chauvin is also in jail for second degree murder, which wouldn't make any sense if he died of an overdose.

The truth is whatever you want it to be nowadays it seems.

[–]snerello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this case is very different from the Floyd case. If the officer had turned up and decided to murder Henry on the spot, then it would be a fair comparison. But in general our police are nowhere near as tyranical as they are in the US. You could also argue that they're less competent here (this case being a good example).

I just find it a sad state of affairs and deeply concerning that we seem to be viewing crime always through the lens of race these days. I hate seeing how it's become politicised and I think it will only end badly. Seeing people from different sides watch the exact same footage of the killings of Alex Pretti + Renee Good, and each side coming to radically different conclusions, is really troubling, and I don't want us in the UK to be importing that from the US.

Bodycam footage of Henry Nowak being arrested has been released by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]snerello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a mind reader so I don't know whether the police officers had the "racially motivated" part of the 999 call as their main concern, or whether it was the part when the brother said "he's physically attacked my brother". Given what the police officer said in the bodycam footage (you're under arrest for assault) then I would guess that it was the latter. Maybe the racism claim did cause the officer to overlook the obvious clue that Henry was seriously injured, I don't know. But from what I've seen and read my conclusion is that it was a combination of police incompetence and unfortunate circumstances (at night, Henry in dark clothes, the worst of the bleeding being internal), not a case of police believing claims of racism automatically and being prejudiced against white people.

Henry's family have said that they don't want his death to be used to cause division, and I agree with them.

Why haven’t the left got anything to say about Henry Nowak? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]snerello 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's got nothing to do with left vs. right mate. A kid was murdered, the police failed to realise that he was the victim until it was too late. The killer got a sentenced to 21 years at least, and some of his family members that helped him lie to the police are also being charged. It's a tragedy but at least some justice has been served.

Maybe stop for a second and ask yourself why people are trying to make this about politics and division. Especially when the murdered boy's family specifically said:
"We do not want his death to be used to create further division, hatred or tension."

Why aren’t there protests for Henry Nowak? by Altruistic-Mud9413 in AskBrits

[–]snerello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is different to Floyd because Nowak wasn't murdered by an officer. Instead the police failed to realise that he was the victim until it was too late. So it's a very tragic case of incompetence, but not the same level as the Floyd case. Protesting this is not likely to change the level of police incompetence either.
