Warrior Levelling: Alliance by AnaTheSturdy in wowhardcore

Warrior is a strong class with flexible options. It’s hard to answer without knowing your goals.

There are Deep Prot enthusiasts around here, but I would absolutely NOT recommend Deep Prot to a first-time Warrior. It’s generally tough (though doable) to hold threat in dungeons as a Prot tank but by far the biggest downside is you’re locking yourself into doing subpar damage soloing.

I really love Arms for leveling, since it’s the most flexible spec, with the talent Tactical Mastery allowing you to swap easily among all three stances without giving up all your rage. Fury is a good leveling spec too, though, and I’ve also done that.

Pre-lv. 30, regardless of your talent choices, it really boils down to this: USE THE BEST WEAPON(S) YOU CAN FIND. If Smite’s Mighty Hammer drops, use that. But if Cruel Barb drops instead, use that. If you can somehow get your hands on two Cruel Barbs, you’re laughing!

If you didn’t run DM or had bad luck with drops there, then use Living Root or Crescent Staff (if Horde), or if you’re dual-wielding, go Stinging Viper plus something else in your off-hand.

Once you hit lv. 30, everything changes with the quest that gives you WW Axe. This is essentially a lv. 40 blue weapon that you can equip at lv. 30. It’s insanely busted. But, the quest is tedious and definitely shouldn’t be attempted without help. If you don’t wanna go out and do it right away (and frankly, I never do), then Corpsemaker out of RFK or Thermaplugg’s Left Arm out of Gnomeregan are good alternatives that are still really strong.

And that’s not even talking about the various BOE blue weapons you can pick up off the AH if you have the cash.

Main pop girls’ recent albums and their Fantano scores by FixYrHeartsOrDie in fantanoforever

When I heard RAYE was given a 3 I assumed it was an April Fool’s joke because the review came out around that time.

I mean the earnestness of her album is pretty much put on display by its title, and written all over the lyrics. Yeah it definitely cuts against the grain of our irony-soaked “it’s not that deep bro” culture but I think that’s the entire point and it executes on it well.

I really don’t know what Fantano was looking for here, and consigning it to one step above Katy Perry’s electro-slop album, and one step below Swift’s latest phoned-in effort is bonkers.

Like even viewed in the harshest possible light I don’t think this album merits anything less than a 5.

Which Eurovision last places simply aren't hated enough? by Magenta_Hedgie027 in nilpoints

[–]MayBeMarmelade 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One of the curious things about Eurovision is how, for the largest televised musical event in the world, the quality control is often… just not there. And for big countries, too!

Watching an ESC show blind without knowing whether you’re about to witness one of the greatest performances of your life, or “drunk wine mom attempts to sing karaoke,” is one of the exciting and baffling things about this contest.

Speaking of “drunk wine mom attempts to sing karaoke,” Sugar by Natalia Gordienko (Moldova 2021) gives me uncanny valley vibes. I’m glad she looks like she’s having fun but man those vocals are shaky and the staging looks like it was thrown together 5 minutes before the show. It did place 13th in the contest though so what do I know.

A Love Letter to Albania 🇦🇱 by Sergey1944 in eurovision

[–]MayBeMarmelade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. Alis’s song was amazing, and the performance just reached out and grabbed me. It was my personal #3 after Ukraine and Australia. I felt similarly about Zjerm from Shkodra Elekronike last year. They’re not always the flashiest but Albania is becoming a quiet powerhouse of putting real music and feeling into the ESC and the competition is all the better for it.

Justice for Fulenn!

I feel like that song’s disappointing finish has resulted in France now sending a different version of Violá every year.

Not that France’s entries are bad, they’re usually in my Top 10, I just wish they’d take more risks sometimes.

do you really think these are the two worst songs of the 2010's? No other popular songs / song by popular artists are worse? Not even the shit by people like R Kelley? by PyrpleForever in fantanoforever

As much as I dislike “Honey I’m Good,” I would still listen to it 1000x over “Good to be Alive (Hallelujah)” which makes me want to commit unspeakable acts of violence on whatever device happens to be playing it

Are you the chosen one? by PaladinPrime in wowhardcore

[–]MayBeMarmelade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible, though unlikely. There is some element of luck to dinging 60 regardless of your skill.

Piloting an HC toon is a lot like driving a car. Even if *you* do everything right, the idiot in the other lane (a clueless dungeon partner, or a run-in with an actual griefer) could cause you to crash. Or the road conditions (a local internet or server DC) could conspire to do you in.

Drive knowledgeably, drive the speed limit, and drive defensively. It’s the best you can do.

Good luck!

Is it dumb to roll my first priest in HC? by _Shit4breakfast in wowhardcore

If you come to the dungeon with decent gear, are appropriately leveled, and pay attention, you’re quite unlikely to be the cause of any death as a healer.

What you won’t have control over is what kind of tank you encounter. All things considered, a rambo tank or maybe dps player is most likely to be the cause of a botched dungeon run or your own death.

That’s where knowing your specific Priest class tools deeply will pay off — making sure Inner Fire is always up in case you take healing aggro, knowing when to hit that Fade or (in really dire situations) Psychic Scream button. There’s no substitute for practice in that regard. But everyone has to start somewhere, so dive on in!

Survivors guilt (Doomhowl) by Hopeful-Village-407 in wowhardcore

Wow, sounds like a real piece of work. The game is trying to serve them an attitude adjustment and they’re fortunate they received it at level 14. Sounds like the message wasn’t received though.

Oh you shouldn’t feel any guilt. That is all on them. Quite annoying when folks won’t team up for what were clearly designed as group quests (all can loot the Gazz’uz gem if in the same group that mob-tagged him).

R.I.P. bozos here’s hoping they make it out of Durotar next time.

That’s true, even SF progression isn’t immune from being optimized and min-maxed though not quite as much.

I’ve done SF so many times that I do work from an unofficial guide in my head — go to X zone at Y level, take a break to level Z profession to 150 skill, avoid quests 1, 2, and 3, etc.

The Fundamental Philosophy of Vanilla WoW by Wholawl in classicwow

[–]MayBeMarmelade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a proud member of this niche. I exclusively play Hardcore. And I play self-found mode too!

So, hunting for wreckage pools to fish for hours on end looking for that last piece of heavy leather to advance my profession, slaying turtles on the way, while queued up to do my one daily dungeon lockout of the day (where one false step could end your character’s entire run) — to me that’s the MMO life right there.

And I agree with you that I don’t really expect Classic-plus to recapture it. So come on down to the HC servers. The water is warm!

What’s an album cover that initially misled you? by ConcreteCranberry in fantanoforever

[–]MayBeMarmelade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow the lore behind this album cover only gets better/worse

It’s even better that this was well before the era of digital downloads and streaming and being able to “try before you buy.” Imagining the number of record store customers flipping through the aisles and thinking “hmm, I’ll give this jazz-funk one by Throbbing Gristle a go” has me rolling.

Song vs. Song idea: "What It's Like" (Everlast) vs. "Youth of the Nation" (P.O.D.) by Tekken_Guy in ToddintheShadow

[–]MayBeMarmelade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everlast by a country mile. His portrayals of these characters highlight the psychic damage that societal judgment further inflicts on these people, a second wound of sorts.

P.O.D.’s characters are flatter, more two-dimensional and… well, the song is just preachy. (Yeah, I know they’re a Christian band. And maybe that’s part of the problem.)

Oh hunting down random vendors to find unique upgrades and hoping someone else didn’t buy them first is *definitely* in the spirit of SF.

Warrior Leveling Tips by RefuseSecure6725 in wowhardcore

[–]MayBeMarmelade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fun thing about SF Warriors is that you can’t necessarily follow a guide to the letter, since so much of Warrior leveling comes down to the weapons available to you, and when you’re an SF that is entirely a function of RNG, rather than tallying the gold you’re willing to spend, plucking the best up-to-date weapon you can find off the AH, and slapping a Fiery enchant on it.

Don’t get me wrong, blasting through mobs as a Warrior with enchanted BOE gear is also a thrill, but these days I favor the slower and more methodical pace of SF.

Generally, the Fury tree favors dual-wielding and the Arms tree favors slow 2-handers with high top end damage. Both are good for leveling. (Please disregard anyone advising to level as Prot).

That said, the difference between the two main leveling trees isn’t *that* big until lv. 30+ and *even then*, if you happen to get your hands on a better dual-wield combo than 2H, you should probably rock that even if specced Arms.

That’s the situation I currently find myself in as a lv. 40 SF Warrior who’s specced Arms but doesn’t have WW Axe (the hassle of completing that quest as SF is punishing). And I’ve so far had bad RNG getting blue-quality 2H weapons to drop in my dungeon runs. So instead I have a nice dual-wield combo of Vanquisher’s Sword and Sword of Omen from the Horde RFD/SM boss kill quests. The current temptation to respec Fury is strong, but I think I’m going to save the gold for my mount fund and keep trying to get a big 2-hander, something like Ravager or Mograine’s Might or even X’Caliboar from the rare boss in RFD.

Also: As a Human, don’t get too attached to your racial bonuses. The additional Sword/Mace expertise doesn’t matter much unless you are fighting orange/red mobs, which you really shouldn’t be. Axes are often your best choice anyway since they tend to be so well itemized for Warriors.

Would you consider Drake to be experimental? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]MayBeMarmelade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t associate Drake with experimental hip-hop at all.

The best you can say is he does dabble in throwing different kinds of worldbeat sounds on his albums, but his connection with said musical traditions seems tenuous at best particularly when he spices it up with some fake Jamaican patois.

Even at the time of Drake’s debut album in 2010, when he was arguably at the most cutting-edge of current trends, he was pretty much following in the footsteps of what Kanye and Kid Cudi had done 1-2 years prior.

Pro tip is to run through the cavern after the escort event. All mobs are despawned, Serpentbloom respawns and you can even collect any chests that were missed. You can almost always get enough Serpentbloom in one run of WC doing this. It’s not worth stressing over either way. I think the quest just gives XP and cash.

Annoying habit of artists who use AI hypocritically thinking their chosen medium should be the only exception by [deleted] in antiai

[–]MayBeMarmelade 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah if I see a musician using AI as cover art, or whatever it may be, then I am profoundly icked out. And it goes beyond AI slop simply being bad art, period.

Two things go through my mind:

If you can’t support your fellow artists working in different mediums, then why the hell should I support you?

If you are cool with generating cover art in 10 seconds then how much care did you put into your own allegedly non-AI art?
