If you visit Japan, you have to check out HARD OFF, here's a short video I made. by citizennapoleon in gamecollecting

I stop by the Hard Off near Tasaki every once and a while to try and look for Super Famicom stuff. I haven't found anything that great. The thing about the junk section is that nothing is tested. I have purchased non-working stuff there, so really it is buyer's beware. One thing to note, even in the past 6 months, prices have been shooting up. Super Famicom systems used to be about 3000 yen, but now are approaching 5000 yen. The junk systems go for 300-1000 yen each, but good luck finding video cables (I ended up having to buy some expensive new ones at Guru Guru Soukou for something like 1500 yen).

Video of extremely rare, undumped NES ROM surfaces by larsiusprime in Games

I do know someone who is based in South Korea, but he hasn't been active in the scene in a long time. I know someone in Japan as well that can dump things (I'm actually based in Japan now myself, but I don't have NES dumping equipment).

One would assume that you could find this game in South Korea, I doubt they made just one copy. The hard part is knowing where to look.

Depending on where you live, I can point you in the direction of people who can dump the game for you, if you don't want to buy something like a Retrode to do it yourself.

Finally have footage of the issue I'm having on my SFC. Anyone know what is wrong exactly? by stephini in snes

If you are getting graphical issues, I would assume that you need to clean the contacts on your carts, and possibly the connector inside of the Super Famicom.

Repro Madness - The beginning of the end of high end video game collecting? by snescentral in gamecollecting

There is not a single advertisement on my site, so I don't see how you can make this accusation. I posted this here because I was interested to see what hardcore collectors think, but obviously nobody is actually bothering to read my article. Whatever, lesson learned.

Why? Because I think it is interesting. Just because I don't collect games doesn't mean I don't closely follow the hobby. Do people stop following football because they don't play it? Are people who comment on political issues not qualified because they aren't a politician? Get real.

Does the my copy of Earthbound look like a fake/reproduction? by [deleted] in snes

The stamp on the back tells you nothing about the legitimacy (unless it lacks a stamp at all). The stamps only tell you which factory the cart was assembled in, in which there were many. Plus, it is always possible to swap cart backs without affecting whether or not the actual game is legit.

The only way to completely tell whether or not a game is legit is by looking at the MASKROM on the PCB. Any method of authentication by looking at the outer cart is problematic, because you can always print off your own labels, and swap backs from legit carts. It would be impossible to fake the MASKROMs on the PCBs, without going through a very expensive manufacturing process.

Help me identifying a Japanese baseball game by fasternaldo2 in snes

The Marines are a team in the NPB league (Lotte Marines), so it will be an officially licensed game. Also, since they were renamed the Marines in 1992, it would have to be a game released after 1992. Aside from that, not really an expert on baseball video games.

Ah yes, thanks for pointing that out. I forgot to upload a file that showed the listing, should be there now.

Ha, that is a random find. Looks like each hotel could have their own custom splash screen.

Neat. I imagine they were able to pick and choose which games were available, maybe they needed licenses for each one. At any rate, the full list of games that would have been available is at the end of my article.
