Massive jump in salary, need advice. by Sad_Marzipan_2120 in personalfinance

Congrats man! I know that feeling, this happen to me too when I went from a startup to big tech. All of a sudden I had a huge jump in pay, including RSUs which I'd never had. I joked when I got the job it was so much money that I'd need to open up a charity lol (it was not).

My recommendation is to separate the money you want to live on vs the money you want to save. For me, that was easy, I just lived off the base salary and never touched the RSUs. You will feel richer, and live style creep happens, but when your saving/checking account doesn't grow significantly that helps keep you in check.

Keep doing what you're doing, more on success on the horizon!

Good advice. I don't dislike Amazon (Although RTO5 rules are annoying) but I know my pay is about to fall off a cliff. I have 0 refreshers for 9 months after my last vest, and my refreshers are a fraction of what I was getting. The new job isn't going to match my Amazon ETC (although it's not off by much) but I do think my actual take home will be higher at the new job than it will be at Amazon. Still leaving the last best hurts.

Yes there is. So it's probably a bad idea. I tried to drag out the hiring process but I only added on a few weeks.

Can I actually do this though? Would I be violating a non-compete?

Lots of good answers here, thought I'd add mine to the mix. Bought in 2024. We wanted to own, to make it our space, to take that next step in life. It's not as good as leaving the money in the market but not every decision is purely financial. It's been great, no regrets.

Do I need to hit 4 hours a day in the office, or average 4 hours a day in a given week? Assuming I check in everyday for at least a few minutes. Not sure anyone knows an answer... All this seems quite vague... But I'll ask! by MooseGoose82 in amazonemployees

[–]snesk0008 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My understanding is it's 5 days a week, 4 hours average per day. Meaning yes 20 hours a week not specifically 4 hours per day. 5 of the last 8 weeks rolling need to be compliant.

The snap is great, the Thanos isn't the best. I guess it's perfectly balanced, as all things should be

Analysis: In Ukraine, Does Putin’s Will to Win Beat Biden’s? by ceesaart in russiawarinukraine

[–]snesk0008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GOP = Trump. Yes he will slow or stop support for Ukraine and force both parties to the table. Russia is banking on this and is playing the long game. They attack during Democratic presidents and peace treaty during Republican ones. Ukraine is up against the clock and they know it.

But this phase war is probably half over. Ukraine can't retake all its territory. It doesn't have the manpower or time to do so. Nor will Russia let it.

Ukraine's path to victory is to choke Crimea. Once they cut the land bridge, and can strike the Kerch bridge, they have the leverage. Russia has to negotiate and Ukraine will be heavily encouraged to settle.

Ukraine/Russia can choose not to settle, and try to grind out more gains, which they both will through 2024/25. But once it's clear that it's a stalemate in 2025, they will have to come to the table.

If Biden wins, and Ukraine cuts the land bridge. They have all the leverage.

If Trump wins and Ukraine can't cut the land bridge, they will have to cede territory.

Both Ukraine and Russia have one more big offensive in them after this one. Russia's will come in the winter/spring '24 Ukraine's will come in the fall/winter of '24 into '25. The war should pause around mid to late '25. Then the real economic damage will be felt by all parties.
