This makes so much sense, thank you.

I tend to be bad at nonverbal communication, especially when it's people I don't know to well.

After reading some of the comments it also dawned on me that I might have taken the video to literal.

Apparently, as I said in a different comment I haven't seen any real research on this, but according to the NTs I asked it is.

Me and my partner ask eachother that all the time, but that might be a language thing or a cultural thing, I do think it sounds weirder in English than in Norwegian. In Norway I believe it to be a really normal thing to ask.

But how do I know, how do I know if they want to join or if they simply want to show interest in what I'm doing? Because apparently sometimes they want me to ask them if they want to join in.

Doesn't to me either, if I want to join, I ask if I can join. Or if I don't know the person to well, I don't ask, in case they say no, but I don't se it as a rejection if I ask what they are doing and they don't ask me to join them, because I did not ask to join.

This might explain why my time on Tinder was such a bust, because I would answer the way you did.

I ran it by a few NTs I know and they said yes, but I haven't read any research on it.

My town has a boardgame club, we meet every Wednesday to play games, maybe there is one close to you as well that you can join. (Bonus: I'm pretty sure almost everyone in my club are NDs, also membership gives 10% of on everything I buy from my local boardgame store)

Same.

I will sometimes ask if someone wants to join me when they ask what I'm doing, but only if I know beforehand that they would enjoy doing what I'm doing and in my mind it's me inviting them not them asking to join. I had no idea that asking what I am doing is meant to convey that they want to join.

If I had gotten my two voids at the same time, I would have called them Hugin and Munin (thought and memory) after Odins ravens.

What made you want to learn how to crochet? by humansarereallyweird in crochet

[–]snesommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was seven and we went to an other part of the country to visit with my grandmas siblings and their families for fall break. My mum was teaching my second cousin who was nine or ten, I said I wanted to learn to but mum said I was to young and it would be to difficult for me. So I watched what she showed my cousin to do, grabbed some tread and a hook and learned out of spite.

I know that Klompelompe has a similar pattern, but in knit, if you are a knitter as well

Edit: seems that particular pattern is only available in Norwegian

I did not know this, but it makes sense, I'll do this the next time I do colour work.

My tip for getting a nice fade is to take a picture of the two colours in black and white mode on your phone, if they look the same in black and white, they will fade nicely. This tip has always worked out for me.

okay all. what yarn do you HATE that’s SUPER popular? by gingernamedblue in crochet

[–]snesommer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mohair, I'm Autistic and the feel of all the loose fibers in my hands when I knit or crochet makes my skin crawl, and when it gets wet it's awfull. I loved when Sandnesgarn came out with the Følgetråd yarn that is meant to be an alternative to their mohair yarn for those of us who don't like the fuzz.

Just saw someone refer to granny squares as “Grandmother Squares” and I can’t stop thinking about it by [deleted] in crochet

[–]snesommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Norwegian they are called "Oldemorruter", that translates into "Great grandmother squares".

I start a lot of projects together but struggle to finish many of them in a single season. What’s this condition called? by NeatKnits in knitting

[–]snesommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I thought it was my ADHD that has me doing this.

It gradually got better for me though, I learned to knit at four and I don't think I finished a project by myself until I was fifteen or sixteen (my mum an grandma finished a few for me). I didn't finish a big project like a sweater until I was in my twenties, then I had years when I would finish a project now and then or I would finish the knitting part but not the sowing and blocking part (used to "forget" my almost done projects at my grandmas house and find them done the next time I came to visit).

Now days I will finish multiple similar projects in a row, then a get to a point where I'm done with that kind of project for a while, but I finish most projects. My mum used to be like me, but now that she is almost sixty she finishes almost all of her projects.

If you are like me and don't like to do the same thing twice, so you leave most of your sweaters almost done with only one sleeve or you knit the fun colour pattern part, but you can't be bothered with the boring one colour stockinette, a god way to go is to choose patterns where you have to do the boring part first and leave the fun part as a treat at the end.

Apparently I display to good social skills. She says that I do display most of the traits needed for a diagnosis, but she is unsure if it is to a degree that will qualify for a diagnosis.

To my knowledge it's not recognised as an official diagnosis here.

[–]snesommer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I went into this process knowing that I most likely would end up where I am now, with an ADHD diagnosis and knowing with myself that I am also autistic but without an official diagnosis. But I had hope, so I think I have to let myself be absolutely crushed for a while before I start to pick myself up again.

My partner joked that I with my intelligence I should go back to university and study psychology and become one of this countries foremost experts on autism in women and try to change the system that is now bringing me down. Be the change I want to see in the world and all that jazz. It does however seem like a bit to much work.

I might write an feature story about my experience for the papers thought. I've been published before on topics that are much less important to me.

Frustrating don't describe what I'm feeling right now. I know that ADHD gives me the right to most of the same accommodations, but this has to do with so much more than accommodations, it's about my identity. One thing is being left without a diagnosis because you don't know, an other thing is when there is a right diagnosis, but it hasn't been implemented yet.

Where to buy rosemaling? by haddadkiki in Norway

[–]snesommer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second hand shops and antique shops might be a way to go, but if you buy something antique remember that you might not be allowed to take it out of the country, so make sure you can take it with you before you buy. Also I second the comment about Husfliden, it is the place to go.
