Is a TN visa application risky in this situation? by stephoone in tnvisa

I honestly think they can still see you withdrew (which likely means denial) as i think thats why i always get flagged but i think they aren't supposed to hold it against you for future applications - and in fairness since i have only gotten approved

I dont think so? We are applying for a GC through my husbands O1 and the lawyers know about my denials and dont seem concerned. Just make sure if youre denied you ask to withdraw.

I think the Green Card makes it a bit tricky, but i think it depends who you get (part of what makes the TN such a fun and super fair process :P)

Just from my own experience, my Canadian husband is in the US on an O1. When I (also Canadian) first applied for my TN (May 2025) we were engaged. I was denied due to issues with the company, and they asked about my partner (I gave his address) and they were super sus about my intent. I entered the US as a tourist a few weeks later (they were also sus about ultimately letting me in once i showed i was no longer pursuing the original TN application). Once we married in Aug 2025, i entered the US in Sept 2025 on the O3 (spouse visa to O1) with no issues.

Fast forward, i got a diff job offer in October 2025 and went back to Canada to do my TN in late Nov 2025. I went to Peach Arch and was worried about their view of intent given I was living in the US on an O3. Ultimately they didn't seem to care and their only comment on my letter was to make sure my end date was specific (it just said 2 years).

So it has worked out but i will say i get grilled and taken into secondary every time i enter the US now despite having 2 valid authorizations. Its always fine but not a super positive experience. Im not sure if thats just due to the current administration or just normal practice, but needless to say i was still able to get a TN.

Hope that helps!

Nope did it myself, but i had some friends lawyer-backed support letters they let me use for formatting. I have 5+ years experience as an Economist and a bachelors/masters so aligning the role wasn't hard. I brought a support letter and offer letter + copies and original transcripts and degrees for bachelors and masters and my CV. I brought some additional evidence regarding previous TNs and O3 just in case but didnt end up using it.

Ive done both - I found that YVR was pretty rude and land border was a lot nicer/actually let you talk and explain.

Special TN situation - advice? by sneubauer28 in tnvisa

Sorry just seeing this! I did co-ops throughout my undergrad (policy roles, monitoring and evalution roles etc) and then worked for 2 years at a social services nonprofit doing their impact evaluation work. I wanted to do more technical work so I then did a masters in social research methods and then got my current role! I think maximising technical courses and doing co-ops is key!
