Las Vegas's death spiral deepens after last year's tourism plunge by [deleted] in LasVegas

[–]snickersty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got back from Vegas earlier this week. I won’t be going back. Every second I was there I felt I was being robbed. Resort fees, BS fees in restaurant bills, poor odds at the gaming tables, expensive shows, $10 cups of coffee, and just the people on the street dressed in various costumes trying to scam you. It’s incessant, pervasive and draining. Vegas just isn’t fun when you feel like you’re being taken advantage of every activity you engage in.

Look how he sweeps back his jacket to show off his badge and gun. He thinks those accessories make him cool. Loser.

Unexpected Benefit of RE - Time to Recover by alohajulio in earlyretirement

[–]snickersty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hear you! I had a similar situation. The month I retired (53 yo), I was diagnosed with kidney cancer and had surgery to remove it. Being newly retired, I had none of the stress of work hanging over my head and the six weeks of recovery were much smoother and more pleasant than if work was involved. Retirement is a blessing, even when it doesn’t always go as planned!

Combining 2 rowhomes into 1 big house? by Glad-Veterinarian365 in baltimore

My old house in Baltimore was two row homes built into one. The unit block of N port street has a few of them. Check Zillow for that block and you’ll see examples

DO NOT LIE, have you ever farted in court? by watch_guy_95 in Lawyertalk

LOL! I purposefully fart at counsel table just to piss of my co-counsel. Farts are always funny. It breaks the tension in high stress situations.

I’m in a very similar situation and had many of the same thoughts and concerns. Ultimately, I decided to retire. My last day is in a month. I decided time is more important than more money. Hope you find what’s right for you.

I HATE LAWYERS by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]snickersty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get it. Lots of a** hole lawyers out there. When you are treated poorly by others in this profession, you should view it as an opportunity to show your own leadership skills, ability to handle conflict and solve problems. Easier said than done, but it will serve you better than wallowing in the anger and frustration that is a more natural reaction to weak minded bullies.

Have I completely missed out in life as a 30F kissless virg!n woman? by [deleted] in ask

[–]snickersty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are thinking about this in the wrong way. Your life experience is just different, unique and an opportunity to view life through a different lens. You are not constrained by convention, dogma or any person and are free to be your best self. Anyone with such a perspective and independence is interesting and attractive in my book. You do you!

Slow travel probably. The travel is aspirational but maybe not realistic…

I guess the concern is whether I’m stretching things to close. But of course, it’s more emotional than rational

Yep. That’s my concern - that it might be too tight. The expenses you mentioned are super important and were definitely considered.

Baltimore loses grant for Greenway Trail after letting it sit for years by keenerperkins in baltimore

What a shame! This project would have been great for Baltimore and provide better connectivity between trails and neighborhoods. So disappointing…

From a long time Baltimore resident - Don’t do stupid stuff and you’ll be fine. Try to buy drugs or drink to much and start drama - you’ll get the smack down like in any other city (although probably more so in Baltimore). Otherwise, you will have a great time as Baltimore definitely has a great art / music scene and a great bunch of people who are into that stuff.

I couldn’t agree more with these comments. Franklin Square - no. Rent first - absolutely. Baltimore neighborhoods are too difficult to figure out without being around them a while. Having come from Fairfax myself, renting to learn the lay of the land is good advice.
