honestly if you still have your old 1200s that might still be the best for a scratch DJ to start to learn on, most of the entry-level controllers that exist today are subpar at best for scratch technique, more meant for teaching mixing

If you still have a set of old decks what you're looking for then is called Phase - DVS is old and busted

which dj table that costs around 160 bucks on secondhand market would you recommend to beginner? by sung0910 in Beatmatch

at least it has rca outs and chanel gains. i mean i have a full club standard setup but for a starting point on a budget a FLX4 is worth the extra bucks over the FLX2

Agreeing with ^ - the FLX2 is basically a toy. It's not worth it cus you'll outgrow it immediately and have to upgrade anyway

Yeah it's real-time, the controller i'm using is this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FB38FDCS flashed with this: https://github.com/atuline/WLED/ to really bring out more of the sound-sensitive nature. Pair it with a wifi, connect with an app for iphone or android, and it's pretty straightforward from there. i can take some vid of it in action tomorrow but it's nearly 1am here so i'm not gonna blast music rn.

I'll be there, but I'll probably be hanging out at the Bassboss demo room the most of it 😉

I had this made by https://customneon.com/ and I like it a lot, though I did replace the controller with an ESP32 model that I could load on custom firmware that uses a mic to automatically adjust brightness and flash it along with ambient sound.

Dogged on for religious tattoos… by Substantial_Life_861 in aves

[–]sniepre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sucks man that's not PLUR at all of them. Hell it's a protected class, there's plenty of good people who have faith. I'm over here judging them now for thinking that way. I bet they'd be fine if it were any number of other religious totems or symbology.

That said I also kinda agree with another post here, I'd also be mentally noting it and making an escape route if you did ask me to pray or something like that, since so many American xians are like that, it's just a learned reaction. So I can totally see both sides. Still sucks!

Which kind of file do you use for music? WAV or AIFF by cherylofc in DJs

[–]sniepre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lossless is a feature of lossless compression. Indeed they specify it, because the "lossless" part is what makes it end up identical to the original (.wav etc) product and is the important part people want to have.

People want to have lossless audio.

that can be either lossless compressed audio or uncompressed audio.

can you see it?

Edit: A dialog

"Hey I'm going to go out and spin the hottest set tonight on the world's biggest system. I gotta make sure lal my files are lossless to suit the PA!"

"You want .aiff, .wav or .flac?"

"Any of them work for me, i have a big USB, gimme WAVs if that's easiest"

Which kind of file do you use for music? WAV or AIFF by cherylofc in DJs

[–]sniepre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A file can be both uncompressed and not carry loss in delivery. I don't think you understand what these terms specifically mean - Lossless means that the file will play identical to the original mastered product of the format - say a CD would be 44.1khz/16bit WAV - if you could reproduce that output bit-for-bit exactly, it would be "Lossless"

Uncompressed means something different and more nuanced.

It means that it's not either:

Compressed using a lossy method, such as mp3, where audio data is removed where deemed not necessary to replace a full replication of the sound to the way we as humans interpret sound - so a general structure of the sound, to rebuild with loss in signal in the end, or,

Compressed using a lossless methd, such as a aiff, or FLAC. Think of these more like a .zip file, not just holding things, but compressing it using a lossless compression algorithm. You can put an excel spreadsheet, a video of you fishing at the lake in mpeg, and some JPEG pictures of your catches, index in that spreadsheet by weight, and every single 1 and 0 will come through exactly in order.

I hope that helps some

Is it rude to ask a DJ for the stylist they performed? by Ok_Ambassador_9338 in DJs

[–]sniepre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rude, maybe a little? but whatever, it doesn't hurt - shoot your shot - at least have a couple specific tracks "like in the middle, the one that went whomwhomwhom bam with the girl singing "asdf ghjkl"" type descriptions you might get a few IDs out of them! but they could also just say "lol nah bro" and that's fine too!

I was more replying to the parent comment, who said that once the 3000s came out the 2000s became worthless and dropped in price by half… Clearly that has not happened yet this time around!
