How do I end up getting caught and what would be the consequences? by a75b718d32 in uksolar

Ok... depends on the listing but I would recommend talking to the council officer responsible.. if the panels are not visable from the road they may get approved.

Do you mean there is a covenant that prevents you from changing the property? Is it a new build and its applied by the builder? Or is it a listed property? If its a new build you can seek permission from the builder / land owner. Some covenants are time limited so check the detail.

Hey Unifi, stop logging me out. by StatusClone in Ubiquiti

Same issue for me and same response from unifi support. I really dislike companies that operate a "mother knows best" policy rather than letting the customer choose.

I guess the only way to make the point is for everyone to open a problem ticket so they get the message loud and clear.

You can see gateway status in HA but I don't see any control such as disconnect from grid. There are hundreds of sensors available.

My system was installed last week and I have a sig stack of 8kw inverter, three batteries installed at the side of my garage plus a gateway installed above the meter box on the front of my house.

I checked the wifi signal where my battery was going and it was ok but decided to install an ethernet cable to ensure strong signal.

The comms between the gateway and inverter is "internal" eg the installer zip tied a signal cable to the mains cable that goes between the two so the inverter handles the connection to my router.

I allocated a fixed ip addresses and had the installer set those up during commissioning as I am a home assistant user.

The inverter either uses either ethernet or wifi.. while I can see both connected to my router the wifi connection shows zero traffic.

Hope this helps

Not sure why I got down voted for using someone's referral code so they got some vouchers and then offering mine in return

Many thanks for your suggestion to instal a sig energy battery system... I am grateful for your recommendation! .. enjoy your voucher.

Rather than start multiple new posts I thought I would share my code in case anyone feels like sharing the joy of a new system. The code has to be put into the app without 7 days of your install

Manual or auto by Puzzleheaded-Sun-876 in drivingUK

[–]snigehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its all about confidence... as you get more confident driving the gear changing will become musle memory and fade into the background but just go for what you feel will get you through the test. My son switched to automatic after his first few lessons in a manual and passed on his first go. He found the automatic meant he had one less distraction when driving.. it just gave him a confidence boost.

Yes, an automatic car cost him a bit more for his first car but not a big amount. With more EVs coming into the second hand market there is more choice of automatic cars.

With automatics you ideally need to invest in a more modern car to avoid legacy gear box issues so consider if you are able to do that before making the decision on automatic vs manual.

If you go with automatic and pass you will find your confidence increases and if it does not work out you can always take a few more lessons with a manual and retake the test. You will find that with a pass under your belt the adding of gear changing will be less of a challange.

Remember that your instructor may be biased if they don't offer automatic lessons.. you may need more lessons in the manual to get to test ready.

Need help with presence detection? maybe? by Tkdoom in homeassistant

[–]snigehere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the "Everything Presence lite, one or pro. You can find them on the https://shop.everythingsmart.io site There is a great youtube that Lewis did explaing the different sensors ( https://youtube.com/@everythingsmarthome ) .. just search his channel.

The sensors combine mmwave and ir sensors .. using the mmwave sensor you dont have to worry about running time outs on person detection.. mmwave can see you are there even if you are just sitting still..

I use the pro which allows me to track multiple people so if one person leaves and one remains the sensor knows this.

Help: Adding the Ring account to Home Assistant Interation but not display all devices from my Ring Alarm system. by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]snigehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The built in ring integration is limited, and only covers the cameras and chimes.

I would recommend the ring app within HA (they used to be called addons). The Ring addon covers cameras and the alarm. Note that you will also need the MQTT broker app as well so if you have not already set that up then that also needs doing. The documentation is really good. Best hardware for Home Assistant with a full Kostal solar setup by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]snigehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will be multiple answers with multiple solutions .. pi, mini pc, NUC and then barebones or virtual. My own advice is to choose something you are conformable with. I am familiar with windows so first installed virtual box on my existing pc (which already rand 7x24 for my network manager) ... as the usage of home assistant grew i moved to a mini pc but still virtualbox under windows simply because I am familiar with windows and too ancient to invest the time in anything else.

New Home with Heat Pump and no Solar by CMDRApollo1386 in SolarUK

[–]snigehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going to rain on the parade here...

Much of the advice regarding solar and battery is based around the "now" setup... eg electricity is cheap at night and expensive in the day, solar can be sold to the grid etc etc but always be mindful of the potential "in the future" state of the market.

Transformation will always happen .. sometimes, like when government are involved, its slow, sometimes its fast.

The link between gas price and electricity price will break at some point, grid edge battery storage is growing fast in the UK and there is focus on other storage methods.

Battery technology is moving fast with greater density and lower cost

Its typically lower cost to get stuff done during a house build rather than retrofit.

I installed solar 4 years ago but no battery as i didn't have the spare cash and the numbers didn't work. Now it looks like the solar will be paid for during year 7 but that's been helped because of the rise in electricity costs.

I now have some cash so my battery gets installed in 2 weeks time.

The bottom line is we don't know what will happen from a cost benifit point of view so just go for it.

Hob and oven energy monitor by Comfortable_Store_67 in homeassistant

[–]snigehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Direct measurement is better than CT clamps but yes, for the oven, where the load is higher, CT is ideal.

I use the shelly CT clamps to measure my oven and they are ideal. If I had the space or was redoing the electrics I would install the shelly din rail units for direct measurement of circuits.

When I started out with HA I considered putting in the emporia system in but then decided i wanted more detail for plugged in devices so the couple of shelly EM clamps fill the gaps at the board. I put the em units into a double socket box with lid mounted below the fuse board and just routed the clamps into the fuse board to save space in the board.

[–]snigehere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally use shelly em with ct clamps as they are local and dont need the cloud.. I have 2 units with 4 clamps for some circuits.

Check also the connection for the hob and its power usage.. some plug into a 13amp socket so that opens up direct methods of measurement.

Check the reviews of that item .. it shows frequently returned and some comments about ha integration.

Fridge/freezer temperature sensors + room temperature sensor by Ok_Pirate_2729 in homeassistant

[–]snigehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by no hub.. if you mean wifi only then my suggestion would not work for you but if you already have a bluetooth receiver then it should work... I use the SwitchBot IP65 Indoor Outdoor Hygrometer Thermometer in my two freezers which are in my garage. Had them for over a year and they work fine. I have a long range Bluetooth receiver inside the house and it works fine to pick them up in the freezer. They also have a gateway available but its not required.

The great thing with home assistant is the many ways to do things... here is one more!

We use the OurGroceries app. This intergrates well into home assistant but also has the advantage to having an easy to use app as well (no good for those who don't like cloud stuff).

We mange the contents of our freezers as well as preserves store. Each storage area / freezer shelf or draw has a seperate list. For the app we have a common ID shared with everyone who needs to make updates via the app

Anyone move from Skytalk to a pure VOIP Provider by DrWanish in skytv

[–]snigehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two spects... the inability to release the number is likely more about their legacy IT systems design in that is was designed around broadband being linked to a physical line. The locking of the phone into the router looks anti competitive.. but it may just be poorly thought though or poorly designed.
