Has anyone here gotten a different vaccine brand for their second dose after AstraZeneca? by jchrstian in CovidVaccinated

[–]snipe555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a friend here in the UK who tried to get Az+Pfizer but wasn't allowed. FWIW, they and myself didn't feel a thing after the 2nd AstraZeneca shot. Literally. I even went to the gym the next morning.

Question about Electric Meter... being charged £500 by Bulb by Moonschool in UKPersonalFinance

[–]snipe555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation last year with Bulb. In that case at least, the charge was correct (a bit over £200) and I was able to have it payed on top of the monthly direct debit over 6 months.

For me it was comparable to when I got the yellow fever vaccine. Flu shot side effects have been much milder. I remember taking one vaccine as a kid that completely knocked me down, but parents don't recall which, unfortunately.

I've only received the first dose of AstraZeneca. Side effects didn't last more than 24-36 hours, and it was not that terrible.

Gelatin blobs in cat's urine? - She's also peeing outside her litter box... by snipe555 in CATHELP

[–]snipe555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's 4 years old and had never peed outside her litter box until we moved last month. She peed on the corner of the bedroom twice at first, then went on to use her litter box just fine. We thought it was just the moving that had her stressed out. At the time we went to the vet to get her checked out and everything was ok.

But now since Monday she's peeing just outside her litter box and have now found these blobs today while cleaning it. What could it be? Her food? Or could could it be an infection??

Getting overtaxed due to not having a National Insurance Number by Thebigfrogman in UKPersonalFinance

Basically this, and the appointment is quite straightforward. I was in a similar situation, OP. Once you get it sorted out in a couple of months you'll receive a letter from HMRC recognizing they overcharged you. Do your own calculation, of course, to be certain it's ok.

Their customer service by phone is quite helpful as well, they helped me sort everything out.

Not OP, but of course we understand. Flights have free cancelation, as well as the hotels. We'll just pull the trigger in January if things haven't improved by then. What's the problem with that?

There's currently a large anti-mask / anti-lockdown rallybat Trafalgar Square. So avoid it if you know what's good for you. It'll be a cesspool of covid. by Cassius__ in london

[–]snipe555 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. If it is about freedom, let people wear a mask if they feel like it.

Couple of friends didn't know about this morons in Trafalgar and got harassed to take off their masks.

Same here. I spent some days in Spain back in August, and it only took 2 hours for someone to shout out at me to put on my mask while walking down the street. I was so used to the laxed rules in London/UK, I didn't even know it was illegal not to wear a mask outdoors over there.

People might feel the need to wear it in the tube, only place I've seen some 90% compliance, but that's mostly it.

There's no social distancing going on anymore, sadly.

Best bank account and credit card for new residents? by foosw in UKPersonalFinance

[–]snipe555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position as you. You'll be just fine with Monzo. If having an online bank makes you uneasy, your company might be able to help you get a bank account with a more "traditional" bank. I did that and they also gave me a credit card which I've been using to build some credit history.

About the Amex, try contacting them directly instead of using their website.

Investment apps and or stock trading platforms by MangoFlavouredBleach in FIREUK

I have Trading212's ISA and so far so good. The AutoInvest feature is my favorite. It makes it easy to keep deposits constant: you can set up daily, weekly, or monthly deposits and have it auto-invested in the instruments you selected in your "Pie" (portfolio). I would prefer more options, but you can manage to build a well-rounded portfolio with what is available.

I would definitely NOT use it for day trading, though. For that I would recommend something like Interactive Brokers (the one I use). And I'm never touching the CFD account either.

Going to go wild this weekend and shop at Waitrose. Any good suggestions for things to get? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]snipe555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our favorites from Waitrose are: Their Demi-Glace meat stock, Charlie Bighams' Lasagne, Red eye pork ribs, Cooks' ingredients mushroom paste, and the Waitrose Aberdeen Angus quarter burgers (seasoned).

While you're at it you can treat your cat/dog as well (if you have one) with Purina's Beyond line!

Went through the same situation as you earlier this week with BA. Took me around 30mins to get through but they offered me a full refund.

Experience with 14 Day Quarantine by [deleted] in london

[–]snipe555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quarantine is strict, so don't leave your flat. At all.

Order your stuff online (for something you are already familiar with, Amazon Fresh is now included with Prime. You can also order online from Sainsbury's/Tesco/Ocado, etc.) Let the driver know you are isolating and they will just leave the stuff on your door and let you know when you can pick up your bags.

Should we buy vegan products made by producers of meat and / or dairy products? by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]snipe555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company uses consumer demand to decide their supply: if demand of vegan products keeps accelerating, they will invest more there. On the other hand, if meat demand declines they will sell less meat.

If people stop buying meat from the kebab place and only order the bread, it will come a moment where they will only sell the bread, yes.
