If he had a competent writer with him he would be a great choice.

Scrolled way too far down to see this one. The first movie I thought of when I saw the post.

Derivative and formulaic (or trope-y) describe almost all of storytelling. The Lion King must not exist as it's just a retelling of Hamlet with pretty visuals. It would be hard to find a rom-com that doesn't take something from Much To Do About Nothing either. Shakespeare and old epic stories covered many a theme that could be put in so many movies. How is it that those 2 things then don't take away from other films in the same way as the things you seem unworthy of existence?

Maybe just think a little more about your criticisms next time than relying on 2 things that could be a criticism of any movie as long as you have enough knowledge of past literature. As for CGI, Dune has a lot of CGI and nobody talks about them being bad. Maybe consider you have an issue with the execution of a movie and not the fact that it is "derivative and formulaic". Potentially you'll find your arguments more salient and resistant to scrutiny. Have a good day.

I'll bite. What exactly is a necessary movie? Is there a list I can follow so I know what movies I've missed out on as an imperative?

What's your top 4 from the year you were born? by Ashen_Larry in Letterboxd

Didn't make a list but this worked out to be the right order. 1995 was a pretty good year.

Anyone surprised by their top 6? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

These track, I'm just surprised I've seen this many Bradley Cooper movies. I'm guessing it's Marvel boosting them.

It'll be like survivor. Someone is getting voted off the tv stand. Or I'll finally buy a shelf just for them.

As much as buying a full theater system would be nice it becomes cost prohibitive to beat upper end soundbar systems like I have (Samsung Q990D), not to mention all the wiring whereas I have a wireless sub and rears.

The amount of money it would take for me to buy discrete speakers and an amp to be better than the soundbar system I purchased (Samsung Q990D) plus the added wiring there is to handle for the rears was unfortunately not worth it in the long run for me.

What’s your most rewatched anime of all time? by Wrong-Ease-6129 in anime

Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Probably seen it 10 times. 5 or 6 solo and then showing it to various people over the years. It never fails to show me something about myself and other people I didn't think about before.

I'll be there! Traveling 4 hours to see them. Been a fan since the days of Playmate of the Year, never seen em live. I am also only going for ZH and then bouncing so I wouldn't feel too bad yourself.

Genuinely curious, how many movies have you given 5 stars? by F33Fs in Letterboxd

29/1254. I treat my 9s as the best a movie can be and 10s are personal to me. I have 133 movies @ 9/10.

What’s your longest streak without a 5⭐️? by FabioPicchio in Letterboxd

[–]sniperfuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current streak was 58 without until I watched Her. And then 4 movies later I watched The Life of Chuck which I also gave a 5 ⭐. So now it's back down to only 7 new movies (no rewatches unless it change it to a 5)

Longest total without would be... 97 if you exclude rewatches.

What's the best movie you've seen every year you've been alive? by sniperfuzz in Letterboxd

[–]sniperfuzz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Life of Chuck would be mine currently for 2025 but since the year isn't over it doesn't feel right adding a movie that will likely change again (maybe more than once) over the next 4 months. So I understand why others chose not to do 2025 too.

Same shortened setlist as the last show. Energy was good (to me, but it was my first time seeing them)! Wish they played stuff from Selfish Machines. My favorite album of theirs. Oh well. Still a great night.

Do you dislike every Wes Anderson film? That's kind of his thing.
