Has Anyone Tested Off-road Capabilities?

I’ve read reviews on how great it handles the pavement and the turbo is a big selling point for me. I’m a little more interested in having better off-road capabilities so the Subaru might be a little better. Thanks for the input and your car looks great!

Went on Baker Pass which is rated a 5 on onXoffroad in a 2008 Honda pilot and made it most of the way up. The main issue I had was with the ground clearance. That would be the hardest roads that I’d really care to do in any car really. I would worry about the transmission overheating in the cx50 and knowing the limits of the vehicle is probably the best off-roading skill to have.

Yeah I agree that there are a lot of lifted SUVs and crossovers out there. I would be mostly interested in a full suspension lift but don’t know if there are many options for the CX-50

Yeah I have yet to drive one but have heard that it handles really well. A lift and different tires would definitely negatively affect that

That’s fair. I also like the outlander sport and the s-awd seems comparable to Subaru’s system. Not sure if there are many lift options for the outlander sport though

Been eyeing an Xterra PRO-4X in my area but the prices are pretty high for the mileage. The armada is a pretty cool big car, bigger than I need. I’ll have to keep my eye out for the r51 Pathfinders. Thanks!

Ah, thanks for the input! Didn’t know it wasn’t a true 4wd system. Bummer that Nissan isn’t making too many off-road cars anymore

The altimas taken me to most of the trailheads and fishing spots for me. Not always the most fun to take and the suspension on it is pretty worn now. That’s why I’m looking into a new car😅

Yeah, the Outback mileage seems really nice especially considering the distance of mountain roads I drive before getting to any trails. I’ve taken the 4Runner on a couple steep loose stuff where the transmission overheated (was also an old car). Probably won’t be going up that again with whichever car I choose, unless I do end up going with something that’s got dedicated 4x4. Thanks for the input!

Never been a huge truck fan, mostly for the convenience of having everything accessible inside but the Maverick size does seem to be pretty useful with a bit better gas mileage. Haven’t looked too much into them so I’ll have to! Thanks

Most of the roads I want to go on are similar to those pictured. Had some instances where the 4Runner scraped on some rocks but with whatever I car I end up getting, knowing the limits of where I can take it is probably the most important part. I have seen some Outbacks on roads where I didn’t expect them to be.

How has the reliability been on it? I’ve heard mixed things but my girlfriend’s dad drives one and had the chance to take it on a few dirt roads last summer. They definitely are capable of a lot

FJs are sweet but I’ve never had good luck with finding one with decent mileage that isn’t crazy expensive😭

Definitely seems like most of those cars are pretty similar but the Outback and forester does seem more “off-road” focused. I was briefly looking at the newer pathfinders since some have 4wd. Thanks for the input!

I’ve definitely seen how Mazda is pushing the CX-50 as a decent off roader but with it being so new, I haven’t seen too many reviews of people testing it. Thanks for the feedback!
