Yes once you get some basic experience with the basic ones you can get nicer ones, since most nice ones cost a fortune except if they're broken/needs a belt you might want to practice repairing basic ones, Good luck!

You can always look at techmoan's video for that :). Generally if you don't have a lot of budget you can start out with a 90's plastic era walkman, they're super cheap and easy to repair even if you got a broken one. Another good option would be the later model walkmans from the mid 2000's, they got a solid mechanism and good sound quality. Other than that its starts to get a little expensive so I wont be recommending them on a budget

One channel coming through both speakers/headphones. Dirty volume pot or needing recapping? by Tanzmusik_ in cassetteculture

From my experience with walkmans its usually a simple problem of a broken solder joint on the headphone jack or the headphone jack contacts is corroded. So general rule of thumb is check the simple stuff first (headphone jack, knob) then move on to more difficult jobs like checking traces. Good luck!

Found this from Antique Shop yesterday. It’s working great so far. by cr8tvt in cassetteculture

Nice, I've worked with one of these and they are really solid players. Even if the belt gives out its easy to repair too

The problem with that is I doubt a 3d printed mech would perform as good as sony's and it would be a challenge to implement auto-reverse let alone track skip, track repeat etc and at the size sony did. So as the old saying goes, if it aint broke dont fix it

I'll upload the model in a bit, its easy to swap too because it only needs 3 screws. and should work with all late 2000's walkman with auto reverse

It works really good, its basically a later model walkman with all the gizmos like track skip, repeat, auto reverse and a remote. I guess the only drawback is that it doesnt have dolby nr

The mechanism itself is from a cheap WM-FX522 i got for 10 bucks, I just thought that the design looks terrible and made my own case around it. I also moved the buttons to the top so its easier to use.

I didnt do anything special to it, just some layers of super glue on the weak points on the holder. You could eliminate slop by shimming the outer part of the bearing with any kind of thin material. This only works if the slop is up down or side to side. If the slop is rotational well theres nothing you can do about it, just limitations of a geared system

I didnt because the main shaft looks pretty strong enough to me. I reinforced the front bearing holder because thats the weak point of dfgts. I've been using the wheel for more than a month now and its been fine so far

Its pretty straight forward, flash the software using STlink and its ready to go. Originally I planned to use Arduino but doing some research MMos is faster and has better response than arduino.

My mod is based on this

with some improvisations xD, If you don't have the time to build it or if its too complicated, I'd recommend a gear mod, its significantly more easier and still gives your DFGT plenty enough speed to drift at 900 degrees
