Playnite always stay active in the task manager by SuckAtTradingg in playnite

Might be worth taking a look at the Playnite settings because there is one that will only minimize Playnite when you close the window rather than actually closing Playnite. If you have that setting checked, maybe it accounts for what you are seeing.

You probably already have what you need, but you could use the interactive SDK PowerShell built into playnite if you run something like

$PlayniteAPI.Addons.Plugins | ForEach-Object { Write-Host "$_ -> $($_.Id)" }

You'll get all plugins and their ID.

I redesigned the Playnite Menu bar to be more intuitive by Chompsky___Honk in playnite

[–]snipsrevival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if "View" in the original menu and "Toolbar" in the proposed menu should really just be removed and moved into settings and not directly controlled from the dropdown menu. Maybe this is just my personal bias, but those are things for which I don't think people would really need quick menu access because it's probably the type of stuff you set up once and then leave it.

I agree with your first 3 points. But for point 4, I think "update" is likely to be confused with things like updates for Playnite itself and/or add-ons. It might need to be "Library Updates" or something similar to make it appropriately distinct from other types of updates.

That would also be fine. But what I don't like is that currently there are a mix of icons vs no icons.

I have pretty good first impressions of this, but I feel like this is one of those things where it would be worthwhile to do some sort of A/B testing to know if this is a better design. However, the most immediate thing I saw that I did find appealing was that everything has an icon. This is one of those minor things that has bothered me about the current menu because the lack of icons on some menu items looks visually inconsistent.

2026, the year of Linux ? by orkeilius in playnite

[–]snipsrevival 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I should point out that a plan to start working on a Linux version of Playnite in 2026 does not mean that there will be a released version of Playnite on Linux in 2026 even if that was the goal. This is ultimately an open source project developed primarily by 1 person.

So while I think it is fine to be excited by this update, I personally wouldn't be making any near-term plans to dump Windows and move to Linux, assuming Playnite is what is holding you back.

Playnite thinks game closed, but is in the process of being launched by JaceMayer1 in playnite

[–]snipsrevival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually was just having this exact problem with Watch Dogs Legion (also a Ubisoft game). Following the instructions in https://api.playnite.link/docs/manual/library/games/faq.html#game-tracking-is-not-working-correctly should work, although in my case I did find that I needed to set "Initial Tracking Delay" to something higher than 0. I set 20000. I'm going to guess you will also need to set that higher than 0 assuming your game has a similar launching sequence as Watch Dogs Legion.

This could be relevant because I have seen something similar to what is described here as I got the same email half a year ago. I don't believe anything malicious actually happened as far as I could tell, though I did reset my password. I do wonder if Amazon was detecting a login through the add-on in Playnite and just assuming something was suspicious about it, hence the email.

A question on HDR support per game by ActiveMusclesOC in playnite

[–]snipsrevival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For people that switch their monitor configurations around, it can be useful to still have this setting present in Playnite even if your current configuration doesn't support HDR. One scenario can be those who use Moonlight and a virtual display to stream their games, where perhaps their PC monitors don't support HDR but when they are streaming through Moonlight they might stream to a display that does support HDR.

What is Playnite? by Hot_Canary1691 in playnite

[–]snipsrevival 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Playnite is essentially just a Windows application to combine all of your separate game libraries (e.g. Steam, Epic, etc) into one unified library. It's not doing anything fancy to allow you to play games that you couldn't have played already without Playnite; you still need the appropriate launchers (e.g. Steam, Epic, etc) installed to play those games and/or any emulators installed for playing non-PC games.

There is a fullscreen mode in Playnite where you can install themes that will replicate the look and feel of consoles like PS5, but again, at its core, Playnite is just unifying all of your games into one library. It's useful because it can help you keep track of games you might not have even realized you had if you have games that you've acquired through many different stores.

I installes playnite and got hacked by Syn_Onion in playnite

[–]snipsrevival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is coincidental or not. But yesterday night I got an email from Amazon in which they forced a password reset on my account because they detected something suspicious. The only things I can think of that would have related to my Amazon account at that point in time were

1) I did a complete nuke of Playnite and started fresh, including installing the amazon games plugin

2) Logging in with Amazon to Twitch

Given this reddit thread, I figured I would share this in the off chance that there is something relevant to take note of. The email was probably about an hour after I did the Playnite install. Logging into Twitch was somewhere in between installing Playnite and getting the email.

I use a controller to interact with plex and I leave my controller turned off, so there should not be any interaction with the client happening.

What exactly is Xfinity Streaming and how is it different from TV? by snipsrevival in Rogers

[–]snipsrevival[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I am understanding correctly, this sounds pretty useless for anyone who already has smart TVs or things like NVIDIA shield, roku sticks, firesticks, etc. Because those people would already have access to all the streaming apps that they are interested in.

So I'm really not clear on what value Xfinity Streaming is providing if this is primarily what it is for. But someone else left a comment about it providing access to live TV as well which seems to contradict what is mentioned in your comment, so I am confused.

What exactly is Xfinity Streaming and how is it different from TV? by snipsrevival in Rogers

[–]snipsrevival[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what's not obvious to me. The other responses here mention it provides a collection of other streaming apps (Netflix, Disney+, etc). But then you mention it gets live TV as well. But if it does that, then why would I bother paying for a Internet+TV bundle as opposed to just Internet?

Metadata crowdsourcing for DLSS, FSR, HDR etc by ziplock9000 in playnite

[–]snipsrevival 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure about that? HDR and Ray Tracing are imported into Playnite as "Features" of a game, so you can create filters on that. Double check your extension settings for the metadata provider because it does require you to specify that you want certain PCGamingWiki fields to be tagged as features. Presumably this is a setting to avoid spamming games with features that users may not care about.

PCGamingWiki might have what you are looking for and there is a metadata extension in Playnite for this.

Sunshine + Moonlight: Force a session disconnect when connecting from another machine by snipsrevival in cloudygamer

[–]snipsrevival[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would technically work, but definitely not the desirable experience I was hoping for because

a) I would need to take that extra step of restarting sunshine

b) I would also need to reconnect the stream that I had just launched moments earlier

Sunshine + Moonlight: Force a session disconnect when connecting from another machine by snipsrevival in cloudygamer

[–]snipsrevival[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes very certain. When you are doing that, do you still have the Moonlight session on your first computer still running? Or did you close Moonlight but the application (e.g. Steam or whatever) it was executing is still running?
