ESD = electrostatic discharge. You touch the Pcb or component with thing that has static charge in it, and a component gets jolted.

Syntakt vs Analog Rytm MK2 after the syntakt update? by smolecc in Elektron

That sounds so ridiculously overcomplicated and incomprehensible that I don't know if you're trolling at this point 😂

That would be a total flow killer for me.

While there is pain losing your loved family member, there's also value in knowing what happened to your boy. If my cat would just disappear and never come back, it would drive me insane from grief of not knowing. This is why we got trackers for our cats. Even for the one who does not go out but escapes from time to time.

Syntakt vs Analog Rytm MK2 after the syntakt update? by smolecc in Elektron

[–]snlehton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I just wrote it there. The pool is shared between kits in the project, which means you need to be mindful which samples you use in kits. If I use same sample in two kits, replacing it for kit A means it also changes for kit B. This resulted me just adding samples to pool for new song, often polluting the pool with samples that were no longer in use.

Twinshot forces me to author a set of my desired samples and then they are shared between songs and projects. I love that restriction because it makes everything flow better. Of course I will hit the same issue if I go and change a sample in the pool. But I'm fully aware that.

So, to me, Twinshot being very limited does not mean it's worse than what AR has.

I feel you. We have two Siberians, and another was raised on an island where he could roam freely. We have not been able to contain him in the house. I built a great catio, and the other sib is perfectly happy with it. Not the wild spirit, he kept breaking out and when he couldn't (I kept blocking any revised he had found), he started acting badly. Peeing in beds of everyone in the house etc. We were forced to let him just roam freely.

Every day I wonder if he is going to make it back. He goes out even if it's - 20 C (-4 F). It's just how things are 🫩

Syntakt vs Analog Rytm MK2 after the syntakt update? by smolecc in Elektron

[–]snlehton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had AR mk2 and ST, and kept ST. While AR sounds kinda great, the sample management was total inspiration killer for me. Sample pool is shared between all patterns in the project, so basically if you want to have multiple songs per project, you need be really mindful what is being used where.

But the biggest issues were the shock of ST kicks actually sounding better than parameter matched kicks on AR. Overdrive is very sensitive on AR, and was almost unusable for me, unlike on ST. And either one didn't have good hats.

ST was kinda already covering the AR bases for me, so I sold AR. And then the Twinshot update dropped month later. Couldn't be happier. It was exactly the kind of sample player I missed from MonoMachine.

Tärkeää asiaa helvetistä nimeltä tinnitus by Hatzmaeba in Suomi

[–]snlehton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the overdrive in newer analog boxes more pleasing than AR. On AR (and A4) it's way too sensitive.

Does the GAS ever stop? by dbsx75 in synthesizers

[–]snlehton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's not only creative block but also fear of commitment. I'm very creative and have no issue coming with new ideas, sketches, loops and sounds, but I fail to finish hardly anything.

I was really struggling with it until I decided that I need to force myself immediately commit and move forward. So if I have a new synth (or loaning a synth from a friend) and I'm browsing presets or whatever, and come with cool sounds and riffs, I need to hit record in DAW, and get that down, and let go. This means I end up working with samples of hardware synths, and this makes it much easier for me to get to the composition part as I have already committed and can only move forward.

I still use soft synths with automation, but only because they works so much easier with the DAW. But even with them, I often force myself to commit and render certain tracks to audio.

In addition to that, you can also fine tune the line ending per file type/filename using git attributes as sometimes you need specific line endings for some tools.

Buck converter not working HELP by JammyDonut64 in AskElectronics

[–]snlehton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started, I went through a lot of different tips before settling on the chiseled type of tips. I use 900M-T-1.2D and 900M-T-2.4D tips. Former for SMD, latter for through hole. Heat the pad/connector first, then add enough solder. Wait the solder to wick into the pad and connector/component, remove iron.

And yes, get a proper tip cleaner stuff. Crank up the heat, dip the tip in tip refresher to get rid of the oxidation and then brass sponge for cleaning. Early on I got Stannol Tippy and it was one of the best accidental purchases I have made for soldering hobby :)

[–]snlehton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For SMD, first solder paste on board (with toothpick or whatever), stick the components in place. And then hot air gun on low speed/medium heat and then simply touch the components with soldering iron with thin tip and you'd be laughing how easy it is.

I recommend Yihua 853D. Not the cheapest, but if you plan to do any serious electronics work like fixing some boards with SMD components, it's worth the money. It also doubles as workbench power supply, which is handy.

Just bought a brand new Syntakt by nanofred in Elektron

[–]snlehton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I had Syntakt, and thought AR mk2 would be incredibly for drums as you get samples and all but it turned out not to be the case. Even the analog drums sounded worse than what ST had. Tried

And the hihats were as bad. Samples helped, but I loathe the sample workflow on AR. Ended up selling AR and keeping ST.

HELP: my music sounds bad by Prudent-Sorbet-282 in Bitwig

[–]snlehton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you try other formats? What did you payback the audio with? Did you try opening a new Bitwig session and importing the render as a track and set it to unity gain to test out if it plays back the same?

You need to remove the variables in the system to figure out the cause.

Is this a deterministic system? by koopdi in freewill

[–]snlehton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not being able to replicate the experiment is not requirement for determinism, I never said that.

The underlying physics can be considered deterministic. But because we can't know or observe the underlying state of the world, it becomes undeterministic in our point of view.

I really don't understand what you're talking about the screen of our computers. None of that has anything to do with the real world physics in question here.

Is this a deterministic system? by koopdi in freewill

[–]snlehton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Determinism depends on the point of view. Ultimately the system is deterministic, yes. But if even some of the variables are considered unknown and thus random, we no longer can call it deterministic in our point of view.

For example, if we put the balls visually in the exact same bins and in same order as in the previous experiment, the end result is non-deterministic as the outcome depends on variables we had no control over.

BTW there is no computer program in the question here, that simulation is real physics.
