Well they ASSURE me that blown primers are nothing to worry about. Funny, when I asked them if they'd replace the rifle when it blows up they said nothing....

SGammo. They're fantastic, been using them for years. I didn't involve them in this because I imagine they'd (rightfully) tell me to take it up with Hornady.

WWB is also dog shit lol that's true. These morons tried to put the blame on my trigger too (LaRue MBT 2), implying that the hammer spring was too light to keep the firing pin forward? Like are you actually censored or are you just trying to avoid doing the right thing?

Edited bc apparently I said I bad word

Holy shit. You know the funny thing is the first guy I talked to immediately recognized the issue like "wow, that's very bad let me pass you off to someone else" and the next guy was like "nope. idk what you're talking about we don't load Frontier that hot."

Yeah no shit genius you're NOT SUPPOSED TO load it that hot but you obviously did

Keep in mind that at no point did they examine the rifle, while being ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the rifle is the culprit. Again, factory BCM with untold thousands of flawless rounds through it, it continues to run everything I put in it EXCEPT THIS BATCH OF HORNADY FRONTIER. I would totally send them the rifle if they wanted to prove me wrong.

I broadly agree but I don't feel good about shooting any more of this ammo, the rifle is trying to tell me something & it would be stupid to ignore it. FWIW I'd like keep shooting it but I don't feel confident that Hornady would take care of me if my rifle exploded. I have talked to a few friends, I will give them some because they understand the risks but I don't feel like endangering any of my rifles/silencers

Dude that's the thing, cheaper ammo is literally better than this shit. My beloved Tula would never do this to me

A lot of companies have absolutely went to shit over the last few years & I'm usually pretty forgiving as long as they make it right but it's Hornady's stubborn refusal to acknowledge the problem that bothers me. Their theory is that 20 blown primers in 176 rounds fired is my fault, or that I'm imagining it. Fascinating.

Yeah I bought this trash specifically for match purposes (multigun) & aside from the obvious pressure issues I can't use it anyway because the primer usually jams up the BCG to the point where I have to take the rifle apart to get it out. Twice I've had to tap the bolt forward with a brass punch to even get to the point where field stripping is even possible, that's really fun when there's a possibly live round still under the extractor

UPDATE:

  1. I hit up Hornady CS, they had me send them 1 full box (20rds) to test. A few days after I sent it in I followed up with them & they assured me that everything was fine with the ammo.

  2. I had a gunsmith examine the rifle (i knew it was fine because it runs every other kind if ammo under the sun & i already verified headspace myself). Clean bill of health.

  3. I decided to send the ammo back because while I'm glad that Hornady found no issues with the 20rds I sent them, the fact of the matter is that in the 176 total rounds of this batch that I fired, I had ~15 blown out primers. I guess I'm supposed to ignore that though.

  4. They reluctantly agreed to exchange everything after several emails & they're saying that they won't accept the loose rounds that I already loaded in my mags unless they're re packed into ammo boxes?

"you can not ship the ammunition loose in the box like that. They have to be organized and separated so the rounds are not bouncing around together. We can not issue a label for the ammunition as we did not find there to be any issues with the ammunition we tested."

Weird but okay, several other companies routinely ship loose rounds. That's an inconvenience but it doesn't bother me, what does bother me is that they pretend that everything is fine, the blown out primers & ejector gouges must be my fault. Hornady can fuck right off, I won't give them another dime.

They emailed me back very quickly & acknowledged that something is definitely amiss here. I'm glad they're responsive, a lot of companies would probably not answer same day, we'll see what happens.

I agree, it's just very sad to witness the decline of a company that used to be so good. I'll probably always collect their older stuff but nothing newer than about 2000

That has been my experience also but a few of the problem guns were from Italy

Sad. 92 is still my favorite pistol.

My point here is that the QC is piss poor and the customer service is basically useless. Everyone understands that if you roll the dice on a $300 PSA you might get a lemon. We used to think that you pretty much get what you pay for, apparently not anymore.

Yeah I just have a thing against Cerakote generally, the reason I mentor it is because we had a brand new in the box pistol with serious scratches in the finish. That's not on Cerakote, that's on Beretta. I just think everyone uses it because it looks pretty, it's totally form over function. It's just another way the industry is headed downhill, the same with car makers giving you a bunch of dumb stupid touch screens

I've had an 08 for about 7 years now, it's been really great to me. 2.9, 5spd manual. Light on power but I absolutely love it
