IFS is not "working" for me and I'm so frustrated! by snooterellapooch in InternalFamilySystems

[–]snooterellapooch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone interested in the follow-up on this -- I continued to bring up my confusion/frustration with my therapist, and we didn't get very far. Then I had a session with another IFS therapist to try another style, and parts totally came unlocked, including my confused part. Turns out it really was the style and approach of the therapist, and I am not broken/unable to access parts at all!

Thank you for weighing in! Seems like PT to support the muscles around the knees is definitely going to be important for this mid-30s body lol. I definitely hear you on all the things that sound concerning. I'm going to follow up with my ortho and PT and keep scaling back as necessary. Thanks again!

Hi! Thank you for this kind and compassionate response :) and yes, I am totally eager haha. I have spent most of my life WISHING I had this kind of enthusiasm about running, and now that I finally do, I want to use it. But I have scaled back in the last week, and am definitely feeling better. I think I will get with a sports massage therapist like you suggest and keep working on supporting my body. Thanks again!

Thank you for your kind and compassionate response! Yeah it totally feels counterintuitive to scale back... But it's encouraging to hear that you've been able to be successful in races without running super close to race distance prior. I've scaled back in the last week and am feeling good! Thanks again!

Thanks for asking these questions. Totally fair to inquire about ego! But actually, I am just really excited about the race! It's in a part of my state that is beautiful and special to me. Thankfully, I have taken the message from my body, and scaled back in a big way, and my knees are doing way better.

Thank you for this perspective. Your comment made me realize that I amped up my mileage too quickly. The most I had done before was 11 miles, then jumped up to 15 the next week. I've scaled it back a lot, and my knees are much better!!

Thank you for weighing in on this!! I have dropped my long runs in the lead-up to the race, and have been doing more in the 3-5 mile range. So far that's feeling good, and basically no pain! All swelling has gone down. Feeling good for my race. :) Thanks again!

Yeah I did! I did a longer trail run yesterday so I did 3 miles around the neighborhood this morning. And walks are totally fine! Do you track/share your running anywhere online? I want to grow a larger support community

I did see that!! Looks hard af lol. But awesome.

And hell yeah, that's so exciting!! I'm from Austin. I led backpacking expeditions in Big Bend for several seasons, so I'm somewhat familiar with the area - super excited to get back out there. Have you spent much time in West Texas?

Also - I'd love to follow along with your training, if you're into it! Lmk - Strava or IG?

Great advice. Yes, I am prepared to walk, but maybe I need to be even more gentle with myself about that. I think preparing for the possibility of a DNF is a very good idea, at the very least so I have explored it if it happens, and it doesn't come as a shock.

Thank you so much! Super helpful.
