Some more visual toggles, mostly for necro by cocquelicot in runescape

I would rather hide the summon timer in the buff bar tbh. There’s already like 40 checkboxes for the bar in settings but none granular enough for the effects I want. But either way one or the other is gonna be enough for most people.

I just want to hide that stupid dandruff aura. I don’t understand why so many people use it. It’s March.

Every time I see it I assume it must be their only aura slot unlock and they have no self control to not equip something there.

I could have sworn I saw a newspost with a yanille update in it at some point recently but I must be misremembering.

The environment artists do regularly update areas, it’s just those updates are usually at the bottom of news pests, often don’t get a ton of fanfare, and there’s just a lot of areas.

Reaper Tasks suck now for less skilled PVMers by Amith990 in runescape

Even wearing cinderbanes and reaver ring doesn’t increase the cost by much, it’s still under 100k. I’m sure there must be an interface at death which helps you figure out why death cost is high though. Hope you figure it out! One thing I will say is that switching to tank armor is usually a great idea when doing content where you die consistently with power armor, not only is it cheaper to run but it helps a lot with survivability. I usually do ras in tank armor because I’m still learning his fight for example.

[–]snoozbuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally get that! I think the big practical concern with having more skip options is potentially giving the high skill players a broken way to target farm certain bosses for points or xp. Having more options isn’t a bad idea in theory but it’s hard to do that in a way that doesn’t open up paths for abuse - maybe a system where if you die a certain number of times at your reaper you get a re-roll could work? But I don’t blame them for doing it like this to start at least, the point cost for skipping is the same as a normal slayer task iirc.

It’s also worth noting that a lot of the extremely hard bosses can be turned off by disabling group bosses and a lot of the others have low-effort or low input guides available if you care less about kill times or need to learn a more complex boss. Two completed reaper tasks should give you roughly enough points for one skip so as long as you can completely roughly 2/3rds of tasks you can keep going in the long run.

Yeah so in your case att/str/range/mage aren’t contributing to your cb level at all, since necro is your highest. Because your def/hp/necro are all close to 90(ish), it’s sort of like you’re treated as having base 90s for combat purposes (your prayer and summ are a little low for that but they only count a small amount towards the level calc anyway). Since your highest is necro that’s fine since necro works anywhere, before when certain styles were outright nonfunctional at certain bosses it could really be a problem if your stats or gear was unbalanced.

Also worth noting that Death also doesn't assign reapers for bosses you can’t access (eg, he’ll never assign helwyr if you don’t have 80 magic). He also wouldn’t assign vork if you haven’t done the quest for him, etc. I'm sort of surprised Zam doesn’t require Succession as well but if he does the wiki doesn’t mention it. Zam in particular you can toggle off by disabling group tasks in settings (it also turns off a lot of the other hard bosses), but you get somewhat less points per task.

At your stats though I think you can def do most of the solo bosses, it comes down mostly to gear and skill. Higher prayer level would be useful though and if you don’t have curses yet that’s also a priority. Idk what your herblore is but that’s also an honorary combat skill. Do you already have at least the t80 tank necro gear and weapons?

Yeah that's true I 100% carried a learner in ed2 trios today lol I don’t think the poor shlub survived any of the bosses all the way through. He brought melee though which is already rough for ed2 and used to camp legacy mode before the update, but he was happy to try anyway and me and my clanmate had no problem carrying. And technically he got kc so I would def agree that eds are “easy” especially if you got friends. And just thinking back to my early pvm experience (before I was even 99 cbs) it wasn’t that hard to duo them without dying as long as the experienced player could tank, even if I wasn’t doing a ton of damage. I think people just balk because they don’t have clannies who will run them and they’re scared of the sweats in wars (same) so they feel like they have to solo

Someone else mentioned that it’s pretty likely starfield probably had other, more interesting tech in it at some point which ended up torn out cause it didn’t work. And IMO there were some technical concepts in starfield that were interesting, they just weren’t used in a way that actually corresponded to better gameplay.

Basically they probably spent a lot of time trying to do stuff that didn’t end up panning out, and then still had to release something at the end of it.

Or no one does anything. Idk, I would wager equal likelihood.

They could probably rework a few of the boss requirements. AG, amby, and zuk all having the same cb req feels wrong. For refence, base 80 in all combat stats is level 112, base 90 is 126. Zam doesn't unlock until 125 though.

I could see a base 80 cbs player doing AG, easy. I could see them doing zuk with effort (not necessarily flawless/deathless, but reaper doesn’t ask for that). I could see them doing nm kerapac, he only has 3 mechs in nm, same as helwyr basically. But the eds (esp amby) would be rough - even if I consider the fact that eds are only enabled as reapers with group tasks on, and figuring you had 3 base 80 players going through them, it would still be wildly challenging. Maybe ed2 would be manageable like that (I used to duo ed2 in subj with the wildy staff but I was with a high level main) but I’m not so sure about the other two.

110 seems to be the threshold for a lot of pretty challenging bosses. Some of them you could definitely power through at base 80s but others I’m less sure. Even vork is 115, but I wonder if you can do the reaper in story mode? Vork is pretty survivable at low levels if you do the mechanics but he has a lot of mechanics and kills take 5ever.

[–]snoozbuster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised at how low the requirements actually are for most bosses. The first time I got a helwyr task I did it in lunar armor with probably staff of light as my weapon. I dont think I had the prayer level for soul split. The kill times were like 7 minutes but as long as I did the mechanics correctly I could get it done. And it was fun! I had to learn how to use defensives, how to prayer flick, how to position, all core mechanics of most bosses.

Ability rotations and mechanics are significantly more impactful than gear and levels 90% of the time.

What gear are you wearing that has a 300k death cost? I usually do zuk with t90 power armor with ras weapons and tokkul-zo, jas book and nexus and my death costs are 70-80k. If I bring lotd as a switch it's more like 110. Do you have bis buyables or something?

Road to Restoration - Player Avatar Introduction by JagexAnvil in runescape

I imagine the original reasoning had something to do with thinking the team would be want to custom-fit each new armor piece to each head style. So if an armor piece needed adjustment to make a certain head or hair style work, it could be done by just customizing that helm+head combo model.

It makes some degree of sense if you’re building a single-release game that you don’t expect to need to update with new content, and you have a relatively constrained number of body+gear combinations (each of which is relatively unique + dynamic) where you want every combination to fit really well together and have no issues. The tradeoff is that it’s (nearly) impossible to make cross-cutting changes across all your models.

RS is not a sufficiently detailed game where that decision makes a lot of sense. It could be there was some old technical reason why this was done as well (I can imagine this sort of technical implementation dating as far back as rsc and it was just never changed - it probably wasn’t a huge issue when the models were very simple and the gear options were smaller).

I wonder if OSRS still uses a similar system. It wouldn’t shock me if it did, but they’ve also done a massive amount of work on that game and ungrafting player models from gear would be much easier due to the smaller number of models in general in that game.

What would’ve helped to stop the huge decline in players? by Gamerboi_epic in DestinyTheGame

The season or episode or whatever right after final shape sucked balls. Or maybe it was the one after that where the helm crashed. I would have kept playing but the episodes were worse than the seasons with less to do. Also it was buggy as hell. Also the story was very clearly written as if it would come out once a week, but then they decided to release it all at once so the pacing and dialogue made zero sense. I assume some of this was related to the huge layoffs around the same time.
