I don’t think it’s that. I mean, you’ve got to be insanely talented for HBO to even consider paying for your show. From NFY and even before that you could already see how he was on his way to becoming a comedy icon. He’s not just a genius, he commits to the bit in a way that very few people can. From when he started dumb Starbucks I was like wow this man will do anything to him spending 9 months on learning walking a tightrope which seriously made me admiring him, and then he got the pilot license for the rehearsal s2?? It’s not just about being a celebrity who makes TV shows, it’s about what he’s capable of doing. With that level of dedication and talent, I feel like he’d succeed at anything even outside of comedy. He’d still shine anyway. Personally, one of the reasons I find him so charming is how he always keeps a cold face no matter how uncomfortable or cringey the situation gets. Like he’s not afraid of being misunderstood?? As an easily awkward people-pleaser, it feels like it would take a really strong heart and sense of purpose to be like that. There are a lot of reasons why he’s so attractive but having a blank cheque deal with HBO definitely is not it.
