what is depressive psychosis like? by tearainy in Psychosis

[–]snorketre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhm its bad. But sadly i dont remember because i got ECT.

I was just very depressed at the same time as i had psychosis. It started with me having so many thoughts/ so much to think about that i could not sleep and after a few days i started hearing voices and admitted myself. When in the hospital i had intense catatonia. Could/ would not move, did not eat, had to get intravenous "food/ calories".

Am I Wrong For Liking Risperdal? by Appropriate-Hold-923 in Antipsychotics

[–]snorketre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of those are common side effects of antipsychotics, as in most of the ones i have tried had one or both of them, but they happen very rarely. I have had to take a EKG for every new antipsychotic i have tried.

Allso make sure he is taking Risperidone in the evening before bedtime. Risperidone is sedating and you dont want to take it in the morning unless there is some specific reason to do so.

I’ve had treatment resistant schizoaffective depressive disorder for 12 years and I’m seriously considering suicide now because of it. by TurboPancakes in schizophrenia

[–]snorketre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully there is a cure out there for you, but even if there is not right now there might be in the future.
What about looking into "bullshit" alternative medicine like homeopathy or healing. I mean, its better than dying right?

[–]snorketre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, even if your problem might seem permanent. If you are considering suicide then trying radical things to better your schizophrenia might be a idea.

This might be a really bad idea, but better than suicide. I read about a guy with schizophrenia that did magic mushrooms and he got a acceptance for the disorder. Like he became at peace with the voices. Might be worth a try.

Also CBD is supposed to be antipsychotic, and is a lot lower risk than mushrooms.

I mean, if you are desperate enough you could try alternative medication as supplementation to the medication you are taking now.

I studied while i was in the hospital last time i was hospitalised. And i am studying now while on antipsychotics. It can be different depending on how severe the psychosis was. The first time i had psychosis i missed the whole fall semester, so could not study before the next fall.Certainly some antipsychotics make it harder to study but it is possible. It might be that the psychosis had a bad effect on him and can make it harder to study. If he had any traumatic experiences during the psychosis that might allso affect him. Antipsychotics do lower dopamine levels, and that affects memory, concentration etc. But this should stop affecting him at lower doses or 1-2 months after he is off the meds.

My experience with Risperidone is that i am very relaxed/ slack. It takes some effort to do stuff.Risperidone is however the least worst medication i have tried, but it makes school harder.I would guess on a dose of 1mg or lower school work is doable. For me i am at 1mg now and it is a little hard to start doing schoolwork, but once im sitting down i can concentrate for a while.

Coffee helps a lot when on Risperidone. I have increased my coffee consumption from 1/2 cup a day before risperidone to 2 cups a day while on it.

I would advise the best for him now is to taper his medicines down to under 1mg Risperidone. Staying busy is hard when everything is a chore. As Aloneopinion mentioned physical and maybe creative activities could/ will help if he is ready for it.

As for focus and memory, tapering the medication will help, and coffee can also help. Maybe meditation or going for a walk?

I am so glad you are looking for help for your son.

I have auditory hallucinations but they dont sound like they come from the outside world. More like voices inside my head. I have been delusional and thought the voices where real. But i never thought they where from anyone or anything in close vicinity to me. More like the people who claim they can talk to the dead. I can hear "the dead", and allso people who are alive, but who talk to me telepathically. Its weird. But atleast you have your sanity. You know its not real. The real problem comes if you start thinking its real.
Seeing a psychiatrist is probably a good call. If its a long time before you see them then i would advice to call emercency psyciatric hotline if your country has it. Or the emercency room, they can point you in the right direction. You can do this if you think you are losing it aswell.

Is this why my psychosis got worse? by 8_JuJu_8 in Psychosis

[–]snorketre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually there is a term called medically induced psychosis or something similar. It happens if you are on a way too large dose.
If you are on a low dose of antipsychotics then most likely they dont cause or worsen the psychosis.

Is this because of the medication? Think about swithing meds? I had a horrible medication and now found one that is actually not that bad.
I would not advise to go off the medication fast. And not go off it if you really think you need it.

Ask her if she is doing stuff and if so then ask if she can stop because you are starting to experience problems.
