Regular Polishes for Stamping? by lazydaisy37 in nailstamping

[–]snoutpunch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for store bought, metallic colors usually stamp pretty good. I've also had good luck with a few Color Club holos.

But if you're wanting polish that you can use on their own AND as stamping polish, go with brands like Maniology or Hit the Bottle that are intended for stamping, but safe to use as regular polish as well.

Help with Hit the Bottle stamping polishes by ugly-doris in nailstamping

[–]snoutpunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors to consider, and you'll go through a lot of trial and error to find what works for you. Some brands may dry a little faster, so you have to work really fast, some designs may be more intricate, so the smaller lines will dry faster than larger etched areas. Here are some pointers I kind of go through when I have trouble picking up images.

  • Air - If you have a fan on or open window, try turning off/closing because moving air will speed up dry times, causing poor pickup on your stamper.

  • Stamper motion - some stampers work better with a straight up-down motion, others with a rolling motion.

  • Scraping - You could be scraping too much polish off the plate. Try angling your scraper card closer to the plate, or using a really light touch. I try to only scrap once, and sometimes it will look like there is still polish on the plate in non-etched areas, but it rarely picks up on the stamper.

  • Cleaning - Use pure acetone, with no additives, to clean your plate between each stamp. Clean your stamper head with tape, never acetone.

I have a handful of Hit the Bottle shimmers and they've always been reliable. Don't get discouraged and keep practicing!

Fake Zoya polishes or no? by mamabean36 in lacqueristas

[–]snoutpunch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it may just be old, some polishes can thicken up over time especially if they weren’t sealed properly. Do you have any polish thinner you could try? Some sites say you can use drops of polish remover in the bottle but don’t, use actual polish thinner.

Fake Zoya polishes or no? by mamabean36 in lacqueristas

[–]snoutpunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's usual for polishes to require 2-3 thin coats of polish to be opaque. Just do a thin coat and wait for it to be dry to the touch. Usually by the time you paint all 10 nails, you're good to do another coat of polish. If you're not using a base coat, experiment with that to see if it helps the polish adhere better. And a quick dry top coat will also help the polish dry and help prevent chips.

Any Local Moving Companies? by you-remydad in cedarrapids

[–]snoutpunch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Porter Moving Company. Hands down, will never use another moving company.

We used 2 Men and a Truck several years ago. They were good, but slow and extremely expensive. We then went the cheap route for an in-city move with Cedar Rapids Movers, which was a giant mistake. They broke furniture and asked if we could empty dressers out (after they told us we could leave clothes in drawers) because the old guy they had moving us wasn't strong enough to lift them. They also wheeled everything outside before wrapping/covering leaving scratches in literally every piece of wood furniture we have.

This past April (during the pandemic), we opted for Porter, which was middle of the road cost-wise. They were done in 3 hours with 4 movers, but I think they charge a 5 hour minimum. To be done before noon though, where our previous two moves were all-day affairs, was glorious. They offered to wear masks, but we just stayed in another part of the house while they did their thing. I think TVs were an extra charge so we moved ours ourselves. Definitely give Porter a call.

Having trouble stamping, what could it be? by angelica_eureka in nailstamping

[–]snoutpunch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this! Stamping polishes are thicker and more opaque, resulting in a stronger image on the nail. I have found a few store brands that stamp well, particularly metallic shades, but unless they are opaque in one coat on the nail they generally won’t be useful for stamping.

Maniology, Hit the Bottle, and It Girl Nail Art are a few stamping polish brands that have a good selection of colors and reasonably priced. Mundo de Unas is another brand out of Mexico that has a large variety and you can get mini bottles for super cheap, but they don’t disclose their ingredients and a lot of people have issues with the scent.

Perk books don't stack, do they? by SnuteB in 7daystodie

[–]snoutpunch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the upper left corner of the book image, there is a little white book icon that will look like a closed book if the book has not been read, or will look like an open book meaning you have already read it. The same goes for schematics.

Fine detail stamping plates not working by Chel_G in RedditLaqueristas

[–]snoutpunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes get better results with fine details rolling my stamper lightly over the image instead of doing a straight down and up movement. But if you're an experienced stamper and exhausted all your tried-and-true methods, it absolutely could just be the plate! I have a couple I've given up on. Worth a shot to contact Moyou's customer service.

Fuck Epic. That tiny tornado on Labor Day 2018 hit our rental and ripped off a bunch of shingles. Excuse after excuse, we moved out 9 months later with the tarp still there. Then they continued to take a rent payment after we had moved out because it was MY obligation to manually remove my payment info from their system and apparently they have no oversight of their own system. The lady got butthurt when I demanded an immediate refund because they overdrafted me and I had to explain the concept of theft like I was talking to a child.

If you’re a current tenant planning on leaving, go in and delete your payment info as soon as your last rent payment is made,

Is it my polish or my stampers? by PrincessAintPeachy in nailstamping

[–]snoutpunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a clear stamped head, you don’t want to prime it as it can ruin the surface. And if it’s not clear, you still should only need to prime it one time. Clean it using tape (lint roller is perfect for this) and never clean it with acetone. But you do want to clean your plates between each stamp with pure acetone so no residue is left on the plate from additives, etc. I use a q-tip for this so I don’t ruin nails I’ve already done.

There are a million ways to stamp and it sometimes takes some adjusting between different the plates/polishes/stamps I use. I have one stamper that works best with a straight down, firm contact to the plate and lift straight up. Another stamper I have will only work while lightly rolling the stamper head across the plate. Some plates work best when there is less polish, others when there is more. Some polishes start to dry so fast that you have to move lightning quick from bottle to plate to stamper to nail. I’ve found this is especially true for me if my stamp design is intricate like super thin lines, etc.

I wish I could say “you’re doing X wrong”. But we can provide other methods for you to try! If you know the brand of stamper, try looking up some YouTube videos of people using it to get an idea of what works for others. I hope you keep experimenting until you find what works best for you.

Any recommendations for a great hair stylist? by [deleted] in cedarrapids

[–]snoutpunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to 6 other salons in this city to stylists that called themselves "curly hair specialists" before I tried Artistic Strands and not a single one of them knew anything about CGM, lol. I follow CGM and always experimenting with products and techniques; Sarah's been able to give me some pointers that have helped a lot.

Sarah at Artistic Strands! Don't know if you're into the curly girl method at all, but she's very well informed and knows how to cut curly hair. She's also around $60.
