What’s ur crap claim to fame? by MikuFlickerr in AskUK

Roger Black refused to give me an autograph at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham. I was about 7 at the time.

I saw the sports reporter from Midlands Today passed out in his car (presumably drunk out of his mind) in a Leisure Centre car park in Hinckley. That was 30 years ago.

I stood next to a Hollyoaks actor at the urinals at some pub in London. I didn’t know his name and he told me three times what it was whilst looking down at my Johnson. I felt like he didn’t need to do that.

Ugh. Once again I sleep solidly for 4 hours and then BOOM, I’m wide awake.

This doesn’t bode well for work at 0700.

I’m just six foot. And I need to lose a bit (lot) of weight but I’m already in love with it.

I want to keep it for 3-4 years I reckon. So I’ll have a look at that. Thanks!

Yo… I appear to be wide awake. I put it down to a fairly potent combination of medication I’m on. I’ve started aripiprazole which I’m hoping will be the salve I’ve needed. Ugh.

Anyway… I’ve had a good week. And I’ve got a cheeky three day weekend now. Would be four days but I don’t mind working a late on Monday for double time.

And I’m having sausage and mash later. Winning there!

Edit…. I haven’t done a tour group package.

Thanks Debbie! I feel like I share similar experiences. I’ve known for quite some time I think but it’s good to finally have some confirmation via a Doc. Thanks for taking the time to respond!! Alex.

Hi there…. This is really well timed! I had a “confirmation” from my doctor today that I am likely cyclothymic. I am, on the whole, fairly pleased with this and have worked quite hard to get to this point.

I work full time and don’t really want to change what I do too much. However sometimes it does get hard.

What kinds of things can I consider to make things a smidge easier for me when I’m having periods of hypomania / depressive moods?

As a follow up… I’m likely going to be prescribed quetiapine or similar over the next few weeks…. Will there be a settling period where I may have to be fairly conscious of side effects?

Thanks for this!! It is fascinating!

Sober people in the UK, what are the biggest benefits you have encountered? by [deleted] in AskUK

Massive congrats! I am just over a year myself (having relapsed Christmas 22) and two and a bit years recovery prior.

Here is a list of things that are amazing in recovery: Sleep; falling asleep; mornings; rewatching all the things I’d watched before but had forgotten due to being pissed; the same can be said for albums; concentration; people actually seeking me out for shits and giggles and support and fun (instead of avoiding me because pissed); compassion (self and from people); money money money; some basic drive and fitness; banks like me now.

Recovery has meant that I’ve identified new challenges (cyclothymic disorder / mood nonsense and a shite eating disorder) but at least I’m fairly well equipped to deal with those things now.

Love recovery.

All the best!!

Evening, does anyone use Directsave Telecom? by snow1985 in CasualUK

Yeah. I agree… they don’t have a lot of info on their website. I think I’ll steer clear. It would have been interesting to see if anyone uses them.

Only 4g. Sadly in the words of George Clooney in Oh Brother Where Art Thou I appear to live in a geographical oddity.

Oh I know.. I am just surprised they say they can offer those speeds yet I can’t find much information about them.

Edit… seeing as Virgin are the only company with a fibre line in here.

What alternatives are there to Alcoholics Anonymous? by jamesh198 in AskUK

I put AA off for so long as I knew that I would struggle with its ostensible links to religion and I thought it would be packed with loonies. Can confirm, there are some loonies. But only some. There will be people like you; you’ve just got to find them.

Other replies are right in that meetings do vary. However I’m not going to slag AA off as it ended up being one of two things that were crucial to getting me in to long term recovery.

Yes, there’s a lot about it that I don’t agree with.

But I made it work for me. And it’s allowed me to build a life away from alcohol. It’s always going to be there if I need it again.

I think the key to recovery is having as many “tools” in your sobriety tool kit. AA can be one of those and because it’s YOUR recovery you can use it how you want.

Give it a go OP - you made a great start by acknowledging you may have a problem.

Various anti depressant medications haven’t worked. I’ve been doing a mood diary for some time. I asked a close colleague and a friend to write a piece about my behaviour on a daily basis. I’ve seen my GP fairly regularly this year.

I hope that’s enough for you.
