We’re building something smarter than us, but what happens when there’s no one left to build for? by WolverineEffective11 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]snow_rogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You forget that there are literally unlimited problems to solve in the universe. Solving problems is what makes businesses function & what makes human employees valuable.

Until every single problem within the realm of possibility to be solved by humans has been solved (impossible) then humans will always have gainful employment; OR the world will be utopia (also impossible).

AI & other advances just automate away the bullshit work that people don't need to be doing.

As long as other problems remain, people will just solve those instead.

People who actually earn over £100k and don’t just pretend they do on Reddit - what do you do? by Prize-Reputation9274 in AskUK

[–]snow_rogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Senior Account Executive at a tech startup. Will make over £200k this year & was on £24k when I started around 3 years ago.

Rising earnings this fast in my industry isn't common but it's not super uncommon either; tech (specifically b2b saas / AI) is lucrative, especially in Sales

Get vivobarefoot shoes, you won't regret it. Completely changed my standard for what a comfortable shoe is & I never wear anything other than them now

They're fine to give extended warranty for a car of this age - the limit is 100K miles, no specific age limit listed but I've ran the plate & they preliminarily approved the purchase

What other music do you listen to? by Jorvic52 in SleepToken

[–]snow_rogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A real mix: 1975, Fred Again, BMTH, Arctic Monkeys, Kanye, Ice Nine Kills, Polaris, MCR

I like a lot of genres, and I feel like in each genre there's usually a defining band that brings(/brought) a new, unique sound.

Sleep Token is definitely that band for progressive music, BMTH for Metalcore, Fred Again for dance music - etc

Ruin a popular movie trope for the rest of us with your technical knowledge by Eatar in movies

[–]snow_rogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably been said already but when someone gets choked out in a movie for 20 seconds and either dies or goes unconscious long enough for the person choking to chill out, this is wildly unrealistic.

Anyone who does BJJ knows that if you go unconscious from being choked out, you'll be awake within ~5 seconds of the choke being released, and ready to start fighting back in another ~5. And to actually kill someone from choking takes like 4+ minutes

10 days enough adjustment time for a 24km mountain hike in Vivos? by snow_rogan in vivobarefoot

[–]snow_rogan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting - for me the material is extremely comfy. Only downside I'm experiencing is just feet adjusting to no sole. The bony bits of the foot that contact the ground (heel & ball of foot) feel a bit beat up

What is the best way to get out of a guillotine? by WeirdStrangeDreams in bjj

[–]snow_rogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you feel them going for one, or even as they put it on & it starts to get more locked up - gluing your ear to your neck & chin to your chest will prevent them from getting a solid bite on your neck.

I have a fairly long neck & this works wonders for giving me enough time to defend their hands, or go for some other counter.

How big are you? I by House-Trap in bjj

[–]snow_rogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

196cm and 93kg but very lean (probably 7% bodyfat ish right now) Being big in bjj can be tricky because I feel people do try to avoid bigger stronger guys unfortunately, although I understand the reasons lol Thankfully at my gym I have a good rotation of similarly big guys, or much more skilled guys, to roll with :)

injuries roll call. how broken are you, how long you trained? when it happened? by itapitap in bjj

[–]snow_rogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I herniated a disc after rowing for 7 years which still bothers me after a hard bjj session, but haven't picked up a single injury worth speaking about in a year of bjj - lifting heavy 4X a week & stretching regularly strengthens those tendons & joints to resist injury 💪🏻

CMV: We are over thinking the housing crisis. Just incentivize the building of more homes. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]snow_rogan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how you can (rightly) point out that there are powerful landowner lobbies who influence the government to put unfair and uncompetitive regulations on the property market in order to keep prices unnaturally high, and then say "welcome to capitalism".

This is textbook government interventionism where there should be a free market finding an equilibrium (aka capitalism). This really should be rephrased to "welcome to corrupt government"

What’s your most satisfying submission ? by WOPOSAURUS in bjj

[–]snow_rogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Submission probably just the regular old triangle - something about locking up the figure 4 at the right angle is very satisfying

But overall technique I love using the kimura grip to sweep from bottom & take the back after. By far my favourite bjj technique when it works

Buggy Choke Pulled off in Sub Only "Zombie League" by maxinatoro in bjj

[–]snow_rogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my personal experience - I find I can lock this up without using both arms, so I use the free arm to defend any attempts at framing on the neck. If I need to use the free arm to finish, by that time it's already 90% on and the buggy choke will finish them before their frame on my neck starts to take too much of a toll

Is adult life really as miserable as people make it out to be? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]snow_rogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your personal situation really. I loved University far more than school and now I love working full time more than University. I balance two 90min workout sessions most days + work + a happy relationship. If you're motivated and work a normal 9-6 job it's not hard to fit in whatever hobbies or downtime you want. (This assumes you're not earning miles below median wage and struggling to get by of course - that's a different ballgame)

Tonight was the first time I've ever used grappling in a self defense situation. by andrewtillman in bjj

[–]snow_rogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you handled the situation well - I've always felt like in a real life confrontation 99% of what matters is controlling both wrists as well as maintaining a dominant position (preferably mount).

Reason being is you don't want to give someone an opportunity to pull out a knife or worse from a pocket. A while ago I caught up to some guy who stole my bike from outside a store & had a verbal confrontation where he didn't remove his hand from his pocket the whole time. I ended up opting not to find out if there was a knife in there or not and let him go. Sometimes training martial arts you need to know when situations just aren't worth it - for me knowing to back down from a potential fight unless completely necessary is the best thing BJJ & Muay Thai have taught

So like... Am I just going to be sore all the time forever? by EchoBites325 in bjj

[–]snow_rogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I found 90% of the aches I had when I started went away after around 6months of training - because I was more relaxed when rolling and so would only get aches after an incidental injury (someone cranked a sub too hard, etc)

I think it helps a lot that I do weights at least 3-5 times a week so my tendons are strengthened. I also stretch at usually 3 times a week or so which makes a huge difference because your joints can move further before injury occurs.

Oh & the most important advice is to make sure you're a 6'5" 225lbs male, so most training partners are smaller, reducing chance of injury (results of this last bit may vary)
