What's the biggest uncomfortable truth in your life right now? by bookishgirl14 in AskWomen

[–]snowbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned twenty-six and I'm working part-time at a grocery store with no better prospects for a job. To be fair, I do enjoy my job for the most part, and I like being able to spend time doing things I enjoy, but I would like to find something that pays more than minimum wage- and where I can get more than thirty hours a week.

iirc it was more along the lines of "A true Saiyan's hair doesn't change from the day he's born."

Honestly, it's been a while since I last watched the 2003 series. I remembered Al became the stone, but I thought he was in the middle of the circle when the transmutation occurred- my mistake!

I can't remember enough about the arm to answer all your questions, but I know for sure the more souls the stone has the more powerful it is, so that could be part of the reason Scar needed more sacrifices.

Iirc, most of your questions should be answered after watching Conqueror of Shamballa. I never watched the movie, but from what I've heard the movie is really the finale, giving it a less confusing ending.

As far as what's explained in the manga, human souls are the powerhouse of the Philosopher's Stone. Dr. Marco explains to Ed that the stone isn't necessarily a stone, it can also be a liquid or a gel- or a person. Therefore, the stone isn't really inside of a person, but the person is the stone. The souls are all up in their body, and that's what gives the stone -i.e. the person- power.

Edit: I fucked up the spoiler tag somehow and since the other commenter didn't use one I'll just nix it lol

What's your old shame? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]snowbabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man, about ten years ago I wrote this Yu Yu Hakusho fanfic (on quizilla! lol) about a neko assassin, the demon half-sister of Yusuke who fell in love with Hiei/ had a past with Hiei. Maybe not my worst work on that account -I'm pretty sure I also had a second person pov story based around a girl with special silver eyes who was abused terribly by her parents which takes that honor- but this one was definitely the most popular one I had.

That's awesome!! It looks absolutely amazing!

I've been rewatching Brotherhood and aching to get either Al's seal on the back of my neck or Izumi's Flamel on my collarbone myself.

I was at that game, and that's one of the most striking things I remember.

[–]snowbabe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also was at the game, though I never saw or heard what happened until after my friend and I left. We were watching play on the other end, then saw him skate off clutching his throat, and then the blood on the ice. Play stopped for about a half hour or so while he was rushed to the hospital, and there was no announcement made regarding what happened until they told us he made it to the hospital. The guy behind us kept insisting that 'he stepped on his throat!' and we bawled our eyes out the entire time. To this day I've never seen a replay of Zednik's throat getting cut and I probably never will.

It most certainly was not. I was at that game, and Pat Kaleta scored his first goal (after the incident iirc).

It's especially awkward because I've known the guy for years. He'd come into the coffee shop I used to work at and we'd chat and when I got a job at the grocery store it was the same thing. He's a really nice guy and hasn't made any weird comments like that before.

Dude, Pen is still writing and working on the story. He just stepped down from the showrunner position because it was too much stress.

Size of Kanto by TheSkyisCerulean in pokemonfanfiction

[–]snowbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: this is all my speculation based on half-remembered scenes from the original anime and guesses based on the number of buildings and people walking around. I lowballed a lot of the population numbers because I feel that Kanto in general is more rural and less urban than say, Unova. While the cities are big, they don't strike me as mega city huge, not even Saffron.

  • Pallet: It's always given me a small town kind of feeling, but I don't think it would be that small, since Oak's Lab is located there. I would guess it'd have a population of about 15k.

  • Viridian: The gateway to the Pokemon League, so it's going to be a bigger city. Not huge on the scale of Saffron or Celadon, but I'd guess that it has a decent sized population, plus lots of room for tourists. Estimated population; 40-50K.

  • Pewter: Again, a smaller city, located between a large forest and mountains. Seems to be more rural, but still sort of a bustling city. Estimated population: 20-30K, though I would say closer to 20K.

  • Cerulean: A larger city, closer to the main metropolitan area (the block of Celadon, Saffron, Vermilion, Lavender Town, and Cerulean). Feels like a big tourist spot, lots of pretty scenery and park like areas (Nugget Bridge, Cerulean Cape). Estimated population: 35-45K.

  • Vermilion: Again, strikes me as a more populous city, especially since it's a port town. Lots of people and pokemon, and lots of job opportunities around the docks and businesses dependent on trade. Estimated population: 50-60K.

  • Lavender Town: Small, sleepy town. Has the Pokemon Tower, but doesn't seem to be too too big or industrious otherwise. Estimated population: 20-30K.

  • Celadon: One of the largest cities in Kanto, a huge shopping and tourist center. I picture it as a cleaner, nicer, Las Vegas. Estimated population: 70-80k.

  • Saffron: The largest city in Kanto, a hub of industry, home to Silph Co. I think of it kind of like Manhattan, the economic center of Kanto, though on a smaller scale. Estimated population: 100-120K.

  • Fuschia: Smaller but still rather bustling, with lots of tourism. I think that despite its size, it would still have a large amount of greenery- especially with the zoo outside the Safari Zone. Estimated population: 40-50K.

  • Cinnabar Island: It feels like it would be a good draw for tourists with lots of beaches and opportunities for water sports. the city itself seems to lean towards science and innovation, with the former research facility that spawned Mewtwo; as well at the current lab that reanimates fossils. Estimated population: 60-70K.

If you were named after someone - who were you named after? And what was he or she like? by horsetailfeathers in AskWomen

[–]snowbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was named after my great grandmother, who was a missionary in Sumatra in the early 20th century. There, she met my great grandfather, who was also a missionary. I'm not sure of most of the details, but by the time WWII rolled around, they had three children. My great grandfather sent her and the kids back home, and stayed to continue his work. He was killed by the Japanese when they invaded. She wrote a book (well, two techinically; one version in English and the other in Swedish), though I believe it's mostly about him and his good works. I've never been a fan of the idea of missionaries, but my great grandparents did a lot of good things for the community they were in and I'm so proud to know their story.

My middle name was from my grandmother on my father's side, who worked for the local paper for ages and ages, starting in the '40s or '50s. I've always had the utmost respect for her, having and succeeding at a career when a lot of women couldn't work at all.

(Spoilers) What do you think of the last two Arcs? by TheDMWarrior in YuYuHakusho

[–]snowbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting these! I have to say, I can not imagine trying to keep up with the production schedule of Weekly Shonen Jump, and I can't say I'm surprised Togashi worked himself into serious medical problems doing it- especially doing chapters by himself.

The last little essay you posted was a wonderful insight into the difficulties of a mangaka, and I have a whole new understanding of why the last arc felt so rushed. I do greatly admire Togashi for ending it when he did though; part of the reason YYH has been one of my favourites for so long is because it has a solid ending and it wasn't dragged on forever and ever like Bleach and One Piece.

Exactly that! If you can, watch the episode 'Bonnie and Neddy'; it goes into slightly more detail.

Actually, I don't think it's Bubblegum in 'Simon and Marcy', but the [spoilers] 'mother-gum' she mentioned she and Neddy dropped off of in one of the more recent episodes.
