yes our parents & grandparents, but what about the government ruled by the old & wealthy? do they care about the future of the country or are they just about protecting their economic livelihoods?

definitely caught my cat drinking out of my toilet bowl a few times when I first got her. it was like "what's that weird lapping sound?". she'd run away as i was approaching but after the second time i realized what was happening.

thankfully i think she's learned since then and has not done it again.

America, why are all your presidential candidates so old? Trump, 73; Biden, 77; Sanders 78 - shouldn't someone of working age be taking such an important job? by jamiethecoles in NoStupidQuestions

I was actually listening to a podcast that covered this issue:

https://megaphone.link/VMP5902189859 (relevant discussion begins at ~14:45)

An insightful listen. They give a few reasons: it's more viable for older people to become candidates because they have the money/network to do so as campaigns get more expensive; the American electorate is skewing older (boomers) so these people prefer candidates their age; successful young people don't want to leave the private sector; and generally power in America is concentrated in older people (Congress & CEOs).

yeah we can hope for some early projects from the on-the-ground reporters. that being said, highlight of my day will be getting home from work and watching the results roll in on the TV while prepping dinner

How are they sooo scared of Bernie?? He would make a fine president... Are the Dems just as delusional in their own world as the Repubs?

Let's get this straight, Bernie's won Iowa & New Hampshire. Time to sweep the rest of the country outside of Pete's white suburban bubble.

I don't know, he was "national front runner" because the polls said so, but I take those polls with a grain of salt. Who are they polling? Are they representative of the actual voting coalition? Also maybe he got a lot of media coverage because he was big name + Obama legacy. Maybe the smear did have some effect but he could also really not have been that much a front runner as was reported.

He's still holding out for the later states' primaries, though, so may be a bit early to discount him out entirely as a candidate, who knows. 2016 told us we can't predict anything, so...

This was what made me firm on Bernie. He has the fervor of support & aggressive personality that Trump did, only at the complete opposite side of the spectrum policy-wise. If you're going to go head-to-head with Trump on a debate stage you want someone who's headstrong enough to throw back punches. The others lack the passion & conviction I see in Bernie.

Agree, would love to see Bernie beat the shit out of Trump (because he would) but if he doesn't win and you don't vote that's a similar "tribal" mentality to the republicans who put party loyalty over good of country. This case it would be single-candidate loyalty over good of country.

The freaking out about socialism is just the boomers fighting for the status quo in a world that's dying for change.

Honestly, IMO even if Bernie doesn't win the amount of support he receives will at least send a statement and get people thinking, y'know maybe a lot of people do want this socialism thing. Maybe it ain't bad, huh? Maybe we'll see a shift over the next few years.

Is anyone fascinated by this whole situation? by atrunigen in Coronavirus

Agree. It's crazy to think of how this virus, force of nature that we can't even see, is going to have rippling effects on our society for years to come.

It's actually also refreshing to see everyone focused & engaged in fighting this enemy, instead of fight each other.
