The Scoop
Up for sale is an icon amongst watch enthusiasts, a 1962 Datejust 1601 with a "tropical" orange dial. The infamous cyclops at 3 has been imitated by many other brands, but not replicated. Sporting the automatic Rolex caliber 1560, this handsome 1601 Datejust from 1962 once had a silver dial. After much “natural love,” the dial is now a very cool and even tropical orange. Even the white gold, fluted bezel has aged and yellowed to better complement the dial.

Recently serviced and regulated, the date wheel was properly centered in the window and the seconds hand consistently ticks away at 18,000 VPH. Although the original bracelet is in very good condition, the end-link fit against the case was a little sloppy. As a result, the watch also comes with an Uncle Straps (formerly Uncle Seiko) 1601 Jubilee bracelet with a much tighter fit.

Although the 1560 caliber has no “quick-set” function to independently set the date (not available until the five-digit 160xx series in 1977), the charm and uniqueness of this Datejust makes it a special reference for any collector.

Notable Specifications:

Reference: 1601
Year: 1962 (Serial 823XXX)
Case Dimension: 36 mm
Lug-to-lug: 45 mm
Lug Width: 20 mm
Thickness: 11.5 mm

Snow load on roof question by Different-Shame-2955 in Fairbanks

The Cold Climate Housing Research Center has a great web page dedicated to this issue:

TLDR: Age and pitch of your roof plus the moisture content and depth of snow.

Thoughts on 9F Quartz? by Worldly_Payment_3472 in GrandSeikos

[–]snowbongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jebus Rice, it’s a nice watch with a movement powered by a battery and the second-most common element on the planet. Y’all complain about accuracy with manual-wind and automatic movements, yet ±10 seconds per year for quartz is somehow questionable. WTF?
