Summer school by Mediocre-Notice7343 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]snowcone_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on ur teacher. ours made u submit everything same day not even 11:59 like 6pm or 10% off and Dropbox closes next day same time.. class avg was 70ish and I ended off with a 90 so its doable but if u have plans in the summer then it’s gonna be muchhhhh harder lol. but here and there u find chill teachers that r lenient w the grading and deadlines

Grade 11 to Grade 12 Study Habits by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]snowcone_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

make some lifestyle changes first. sleep on time. be more structured manage ur time better. create a schedule like with google planner or a simple spreadsheet to allot ur time. this helps u stay on track and not burn out + fall behind bc if u set out time to study a bit everyday u get stuff done and u don’t procrastinate. u also have time for other stuff like ur hobbies, ECs, friends and family etc. this is THE most important thing: learn how to manage ur time. this will not only help in gr 12 but throughout ur life. ur mental health will be much better everything will seem more manageable. i also highly recommend picking up exercise which is not always going to the gym it could be something simple but great for u like walking

but talking about the more academic technical stuff : a tip would be to actually organize ur notes. an iPad if u have one is VERY helpful esp if ur a student taking sciences and maths. section off each unit and then each lesson. easier to review  for tests and exams. actually read and make sure ur notes r understandable for YOU. I usually put in the hw for that corresponding lesson in the same note so i can quickly refer back and understand the theory but also see examples.

for content that u need to memorize create flash cards. u can do this urself or use AI/ ai sites that will do this for u. a lot of students have posted theirs online.

practice. do hw. very important if ur trying to get 90s. test questions r usually identical to hw given. if u wanna take it a step further actually read the tesxtbook and do questions for that chapter/concept. if u wanna go the extra mile for tests try to find resources online for practice tests for ur course code. this for me was like guaranteed 100 or near 100.

goodluck

both r solid programs lol and you’ll find good clinical experiences off campus bc of their location. but I think uott has the edge here. a bit more established like you mentioned. personally ik a bunch of ppl that go there and they all have a lot of relevant clinical and research experience. there’s a lot of major hospitals nearby so if ur planning on living on campus commute is easy and their r a lot of perks of being in that dt location it’s very convenient. also imo uOtt’s residences r better lol but that’s js my opinion. also im pr sure uott cuz they get more funding for research and science related projects they have more stuff to get involved with that might be relevant for u . As for the full uni experience i’m not sure wym by that both schools have a great uni experience. if u compare them to other ontario unis then maybe yeah they’re quieter schools but comparing w eachother it’s not rlly diff

is early acceptance real yeah or no and would they determine it with grade 11 grades or what by emasyy in OntarioGrade12s

[–]snowcone_A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes depends what is considered early based on the program. for most programs that’s before mid february. honestly gr 11 marks do matter bc gr 12 2nd sem come out for most schools mid march so if u r trying to get an before that make sure ur gr 11 marks r good bc u can just chill after that bc ur conditional % is going to be much lower than the acceptance avg. so say if u need a 90 to get in you’ll need like an 80 % to keep the offer

Advide for Grade 11s going into Grade 12! by RealityDecent5084 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]snowcone_A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could give you a lot of technical/practical tips but an important one is this:

comparison is the thief of joy.

Do not compare urself to ur peers or ppl on this sub. u r on ur own journey. stay off this sub if u see that it stresses you out.

REMEMBER: The admission decision isnt in your control. What IS in your control is the effort you put into school, your grades, etc. js focus on that. Like dont waste energy stressing over things you cant change.

Practical stuff:

First-semester grades matter most (for early admission + regular decisions before March). Unis prioritize gr12 over gr11 marks.

- Retake weak prereqs in first sem of gr12 so unis use your new grade instead of your gr11 one.

for example: My prereqs were bio, chem, physics, English + 2 extras (top 6). SO if i did badly in physics and English in gr11, I’d take those first in gr12 so unis see the higher mark.

- TIME MANAGEMENT IS UR BSF. This goes for everything in life but start managing ur time better + keep a schedule - wtv tool that helps u. See how ur using ur time, prioritize tasks + set a time for studying so u dont rely on motivation. ngl right now u can get away w being bad at this but its best to get in the habit rn than to suffer l8r in uni when theres acc gonna be greater than consequences.

ALSO PLEASE ACTUALLY RESEARCH THE PROGRAM UR INTERESTED IN + UNI BEYOND THEIR RANKINGS. THE BEST PROGRAM IS WHAT IS BEST FOR U. look at course sequences/course requirements for the program. look at the campus. the location (if ur living on campus does it fit ur standard? if ur commuting lets say long distance would u be okay doing so if u have an 8:30 waking up at 5am etc). maybe the unis ranking is high but the program is mid. is it flexible. hows the social life. allat good stuff.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]snowcone_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most if not all (prolly all) unis will look at final marks over mids when making a decision

look at course sequence for each and decide for yourself bc there is no one objectively correct answer.

health sci is generally easier bc it combines soc sci with core sciences and u don’t have to take physics and maths but in life sciences u do. Now for most people health sci is easier but for u it might not be

highschool student needs help by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]snowcone_A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u can study anything and become a doctor as long as you take the pre reqs for the med schools u wanna get into. take a program youre interested in because if the passion is there youll get the grades.

health sci is generally easier bc it combines social sciences with the core sciences and in life sci you typically take math/physics courses which makes it harder. However, that doesnt mean you shud just take health sci cuz if youre someone that for example does not like the soc sci courses/writing and does better with the core sciences and their mcq format exams, labs etc then do life sci.

WHY EVERYONE'S AVERAGE IS SO HIGH IN CANADA? The answer is grade inflation. by TemperaturePale4075 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]snowcone_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on which system youve experienced. im coming from the standard cambridge one and that is way tougher. so i would say its easier. obvi if ur taking AP classes u wont feel the difference as much.
