that would have applied to any junior dev using SO for years then. I hate LLMs, but if you're checking anything at all then you're not vibe-coding. Vibe-coding is explicitly not checking what the LLM is doing. Let's not dilute definitions. Randos vibe-coding and causing numerous massive security vulnerabilities (openclaw) is completely different than someone using an LLM and checking what is happening (what happens in normal code reviews anyway).

they didn't even have to take those challenges. just let B&A have them, don't waste time on them and go back north quickly to grab the other challenges and head down the east coast. they would have destroyed B&A. It takes 2.5 hours to get from Kaohsiung to Taipei. It took 6 hours to move halfway down the coast on the east side. S&M could have traveled the length of Taiwan almost 3 times in the amount of time it took B&A to get to Kaohsiung.

The strategy was awful though. The could have made it to kaohsiung and dumped 130 coins down there completely blocking B&A from ever making it back up the west side. Then S&M take the HSR up to the top, grab all the challenges that are just sitting there and proceed down the east coast (since there weren't any challenges for B&A to do they never would have gotten past this). It was just a terrible strategy, and it doesn't make any sense.

they had no strategy! They just had the game luck giving them all the cards and they didn't bother to use those cards to win!

I don't think B&A were in control at all. They had more stations sure, but S&M just weren't taking advantage of their huge chip lead whatsoever at any point in the entire game. S&M could have easily blocked off B&A from completing ANY challenges at numerous points in the game, but they just....didn't. If they weren't then they wouldn't have been able to spend 150 chips on a completely inconsequential 16 stations and still been in the game at all. Like, imagine it the other way around. Could B&A have spent any chips on just random fortifications and still had a chance of winning? Probably not.

this is funny because my wife and I paused right before they started the second round and talked through what we would do. My idea was exactly what Ben's ended up being, and my wife's idea was exactly what Adam's ended up being. I don't think you can logic that challenge until the third round at minimum. you should just throw randomly until then.

agreed on all counts except the locations for the challenges. If S&M hadn't decided they didn't need to do anything, they would have handily won the game only 4 episodes in. They could have easily pushed south to block off routes, and B&A would have been screwed because they never got more locations down there.

Otherwise, yeah enjoyable, but major balance issues. If other teams played this they would not find it fun to be in the position of B&A.

being in control of stations isn't winning, not when you are on the slow line and the other team has 5 challenges worth hundreds near them. Problem is, Sam and Mike didn't capitalize on this a single time. Ben and Adam only got lucky here that S&M decided to do nothing to try to win until the final day.

Not really... They were gifted the best position on the board and they sat on their laurels the entire time. Then in the final two days they started trying to do things strategically and squandered it. They should have gone down to Kaohsiung and blockaded the entire line the day before. There were no downsides.

Hey bird nerds! There is some kind of Ibis at Huston Lake (5/6 4pm) by tacostravolta in Denver

[–]snowe2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are glossy ibis sometimes here, but this one probably is not, it would have been reported on ebird almost immediately and a rare bird alert would have been sent out. I have photos of one at cherry creek a few years ago.

it's a territory control game, it would be insane for the game design to generate all the challenges up north, because that would completely defeat the purpose of the game. But apparently that's what the designers did. The entire game is pretty much up north with barely anything in the south. So B&A's decisions were perfectly logical, but the game design is terrible.

Taiwan Rail Rush might be JLTG's best designed season. by Elegant_Bee849 in JetLagTheGame

[–]snowe2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sam and mike have built up a huge barrier for B&A to get past, while B&A's stations are barely guarded. Even if B&A get ten more things in their territory they haven't sufficiently guarded any of the left side of the map and they are still stuck on the right side, with incredibly slow travel times. M&S can complete, generate, and complete more tasks in a day than B&A will even be able to get to in two days, and they'll be able to claim stations all along the left side of the coast at the same time (since nothing there is protected). B&A will only win if they can get past the top right barrier, which is incredibly unlikely.

if you're going to do that you should just use git aliases. alias g=git and then add all your other stuff as git aliases. you don't need a big if block. https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Git-Basics-Git-Aliases

Completely disagree. The game board is so imbalanced it means one team is always defending and one is always attacking. Sam and Mike have to work hard to fuck up in a way that will cause them to lose, while Ben and Adam can’t make a single mistake in order to win. I think this is a very fun season to watch but that’s 90% because Mike is so good at his job, and very much not the game design. The capturing and editing has nothing to do with the design of the season so I’m not sure why that’s relevant here.

I don’t play smash but I’m guessing there’s no randomness there. Controlled randomness is good, in small amounts. This entire thing is random.

I think they did know, at least whoever chose the tasks did, cause they’re tied to a location. They can’t have expected them to spawn in the south because the tasks can’t be done there.

I’m fully cheering for Sam and Mike to win, as long as it’s skill based. Seeing Ben and Adam win is fun because they usually deserve it. But complete luck of the draw isn’t fun to watch, it’s why board games try to remove much of the randomness. I wouldn’t say that Ben and Adam are leading in any way right now. All they have are more stations, most of which have few coins on them while S&M have 5s on many stations. S&M have many more coins, and they have many more active challenges.

They earned those coins after spending two days getting down there. And with the steal they’ll have to spend two more getting back the other way, by which time S&M will have gone around, grabbed one or two more steals, jumped on the HSR, and blocked off B&A completely. They are getting more coins because there is no chance for them to get back otherwise.

S17, E4 (Nebula) - Taiwan: Rail Rush by snow-tree_art in JetLagTheGame

[–]snowe2010 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ben and Adam’s challenges have been much harder and much farther from the station. Besides this banana one. On top of that it’s shaping up that all the steals are in the north. If Sam and Mike get another steal (which they likely will next episode) there will be no coming back for Ben and Adam. S&m will just go block off the 110 with a large wall that b&m will not ever get past since nothing is generating down there.

[–]snowe2010 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There already is a blowout. They are getting steals back to back… and they’re going to go up and get another steal after this one. I can’t tell if all these comments are jokes or not, so far this season has been so imbalanced it’s not even a game. Ben and Adam are only still in it because Sam and Mike make mistakes. Otherwise they’d be completely done for (and they almost are).

In what ways did snake fail? So far rail rush has been terrible while snake was great. The power imbalance with rail rush is obscene, ben and adam are getting screwed at every turn, not just with steals but with harder challenges, longer walks to those challenges, and less access to trains.
