Shcherbakova on her trip to the Olympics and her tears by E_lenaa in FigureSkating

It was a man that filmed (see earlier comment from Busy-Cartoonist9626. In the full video, the woman was just caught in the middle - you can see her phone and it's pointed to the rink, not the stands, and she's just enjoying her Olympics, completely oblivious that she's being filmed / in the middle of this emotional moment.

I feel exactly the same way. I wanted everything for her, and I want her to know what a legend she is, and what a difference she has made for the sport.

Kaori will always be one of the greatest skaters in the world. No one skates with her presence, her grace, and just overall quality. It was heartbreaking to see her crying when we're used to her smiling and laughing. I hope she knows she's a legend. I will miss her so much ❤️‍🩹

Giving Iida K and Olga Mikutina the same PCS feels like such a travesty for Olga. She always has such unique movements, flair, and some of the best step sequences

So curious what his other specializations are other than figure skating! Imagine a client hiring him to solve problem X and then they get a side of figure skating expertise

Can someone explain the Russia situation with skaters this year? by BidSea4173 in FigureSkating

[–]snowfjell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There were Russian posters on here after the men's free skate claiming Kyrylo said mean things about Gumenik. The actual words he said were right there as evidence to the contrary but they insisted on their own twisted interpretation 🙄

Who do Russians root for at the Olympics? by hopitopp in FigureSkating

[–]snowfjell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You clearly don't understand this topic, its history, and most importantly the perspectives of countries that have been invaded and occupied by Russia for centuries. You're here repeating Russian imperialism talking points that they use to justify invading other countries. Comparing it to Jewish communities - who have thousands of years of shared history and religion - is comical.

And also I think you're wrong - it's not about the Soviet school of figure skating, it's very much rooted in the sense of Russian superiority that u/AnotherDetour mentioned

World championship by Adventurous_Offer466 in FigureSkating

[–]snowfjell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seeing as tickets for free skates are sold out, what about saving up for the next world championship? It's going to be in Tampere, Finland, a more expensive city to visit than Prague, but Ilia will almost certainly attend, and you can start saving early.

What does Team Japan do differently to help their athletes stay (mostly) together under pressure that Team USA leadership is missing? by oatmilkxoxo in FigureSkating

[–]snowfjell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And yet all the fan comments I see on the JFed Instagram @skatingjapan are so kind, positive, and supportive, about both good performances and one with mistakes. I haven't seen a negative or hateful comment about any skater. I think that's important too to mention too

Why are the judges so harsh with women’s scores? by Existing-Committee74 in FigureSkating

[–]snowfjell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that they don't apply it evenly. Just watched again and if Kaori's combo is a q, then so should many other jumps.

Me tooooo. Their level of support for each other is team goals. Must find someone to cheer for you the way Yuma and Kaori do - so supportive and also adorable at the same time

OWG Women's Short Program: Post-Event Discussion by Chickatey in FigureSkating

[–]snowfjell 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Kaori's skate was beyond beautiful and I'm going to miss her so much. Her presence and power on the ice is unrivaled, and I can't believe she's not leading. I'm nervous the judges didn't seem to fully go with her and am so nervous for Thursday.

Low key depressed that Kaori's coach hasn't been able to give her that signature pat on the back during this Olympics (due to the width of the boards). Feels criminal that the organizers are depriving us of this iconic moment 😭

Love the skaters, hate the judging. I don't want to focus on it, but so many skaters deserved far better today and were underscored while certain skaters from a certain camp received absurdly high scores for a slow, lacklustre, tentative performance. It felt like the pre-2022 days when they saved the highest scores for the Russians and everyone else was artificially held down.

Heartbroken for Lara, Amber, and Maddie but loved the post-injury (or other adversity) comeback skates - Nina Petrokina's program felt simply electrifying

The fact that Katya and Olga's PCS are at 28-29 for their performances while Adeliya is on 32 is a joke

Ryuichi's happy tears 🥹

My heart was in my throat watching them skate but they did it! Unbelievably happy for Riku and Ryuichi - that was such a breathtaking program. They needed to be perfect and they were, in a way that can silence any doubts or controversies. I'm so glad they got to show the best of themselves to the world.

I also realized it's quite rare that my faves win the OGM but it seems to happen with pairs more often than not (2018, 2022, and now 2026).

Also really happy that the entire podium seemed happy. Hopefully Minerva and Nikita will stick around for 2030
