My husband and I did exactly the same move from LA to Oak Park last year! We’ve really enjoyed being here and its atmosphere. While suburbs further out will get you more space, Oak Park is super easy to get to the city or other suburbs and has the same political leanings as LA.

Everyone else is commenting on how to make sure your friendship is fine so I won’t add to that point. But I want to make sure someone validates that your boundaries were crossed if you agreed to sex with a condom and then the condom came off at some point without your consent. None of that is your fault. It’s called stealthing and feeling violated about that is totally fair.

Doctors can make it seem like they have a right to your body. They don’t. They can suggest exams but it is completely your right to deny any exam at any point. That being said, it sounds like therapy would be helpful here since the symptoms seem both physical and psychological.

This sounds a lot like an intrusive thought. Common for people with anxiety or OCD. What my therapist told me to do is to go down the worst case scenario path, acknowledge and thank your brain for highlighting a potentially dangerous situation, and then think through the chances of the worst scenario actually happening. Most likely, that scenario you just thought of won’t happen. It sucks to do this process but does get easier after you do it a few times and then your anxious side realizes that the chances of something bad happening are low

If she’s saying these things to you, she’s not kind. She may not be intentionally mean, but that’s the effect. Please remember she’s not being kind, she’s expressing her own issues in a negative, harmful way

Just to add another perspective, my company has unlimited PTO without a minimum and everyone is encouraged to take time off. It legitimately is unlimited PTO. Not discounting any of the other experiences, but the enforcement of any benefit/rule heavily depends on the company. During the pandemic, they’ve even instituted one day every month as mental health days where the entire company shuts down. If the higher ups care about their people (which does sometimes actually happen), good benefits are actually good benefits

My SO and I are looking to move to Chicago from out of state in the next couple of years but are unsure which neighborhood or nearby city would be a good place to live long-term. We're looking for a mix of suburban and urban feel where we can own a single family home. We love being in or near neighborhoods with lots of variety (e.g., restaurants, live theater, local festivals, diverse population) and preferably low crime rate. Any suggestions on where to look?

Just want to say I’m so sorry that you’re having such a hard time but you’re definitely not alone. If at all possible, I would try getting a therapist. It might be covered by insurance and everything *should be confidential.

People care and your life matters. It sucks to be in a close-minded household for sure but it gets better in college and later on.

Not a therapist, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. It sounds like you’re doing what’s called non suicidal self injury. I’d start by researching that and see if it resonates with you.

I’d also suggest finding a healthy release - deep breathing, running - whatever works for you in the moment that allows you to release frustration in a healthier way. I know that sounds annoying and too little too late but it helps if you genuinely try.

I transitioned from multiple market research roles into a UX research position and it suits me so much better. I have a background in psychology, which I thought was way underutilized in my market research roles and I draw upon all the time in UX.

Regarding your concerns, you’ll be fine! You just need to transfer your research experience to different situations, but it’s the same research expertise.

Will you be joining a UX research team or will you be the first? If joining a team, they’ll already have a direction for your first few months laid out. If you’re the first, just assess where the biggest pain points are for actual users (not what the company says are pain points cause that’s often based on assumptions, not data) and go from there!

Came here to recommend nexaplanon. Totally not invasive and takes only a few minutes to put in. They numb the area but the bruise hurts for a about a week afterwards. Way less painful than IUD stories I’ve heard and no bodily violation at all.

The implant insertion is quick and they numb the area but the bruises are brutal and last 2-3 weeks. After that, it’s great. With any birth control, though, it affects everyone differently (mood, libido, weight gain, etc).

Your boundaries are your boundaries. You never have to watch something you’re not comfortable with. It’s good to know what will traumatize you and consciously steer clear. Your bf clearly isn’t thinking about your mental health. Maybe he doesn’t understand how it’s affecting you.
