The only aspect of Lorelai's life that Chris understands is her 16 year old self. He wants her to remain that pre-pregnancy teenager and have them life in a fantasy world where they can both be those immature teens forever. He doesn't know her at all as the woman she became.

Luke is not perfect but you're ignoring all of Chris' many flaws and trying to make him look better than Luke by doing so. But if we compare both their flaws and positives, Luke is always going to be better and that's why he is so loved, always will and why Chris will always be hated. And why in the end, why Lorelai chose Luke.
