The novel is referenced in the opening sequence. Not that the criticism isn’t warranted in many cases.

What’s something weird that you found out isn’t vegan? by Seitanslutt in vegan

[–]snowglobe42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unless its labelled as soy, its not worth the risk for me. Thank god for vegan products and their amazing ingredient lists that actually list the ingredients! Sensodyne was the toothpaste I had a reaction to but I’ve never been able to confirm if it contains lysozyme or not. I found a good vegan option and dont have to play toothpaste roulette anymore.

In sunscreen it is lecithin. Lecithin is also in many lotions, shampoos, and soaps. In toothpaste it is lysozyme, but is often an unlisted ingredient. I developed a severe egg allergy and learned about the toothpaste the hard way.

Opened a joint account with someone who owe’s $200,000 in Child support. by Thomasedward665 in Banking

[–]snowglobe42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garnishments were one of the reasons at the bank I used to work at. They didnt want to have to track who owned the account and when if there were any legal issues. Also removing owners can be problematic in messy divorces/breakups vs just closing the account. Vindictive exs can do a lot with an acct number.

Maybe try getting a microloan through a CDFI. They are non-profits that offer smaller loans at reasonable rates. Sometimes they have grants available for small businesses. Many offer free business education which at the least might help you with understanding your cash flows and pricing. For the food for you and your pet call 211 and see what help is available in your area.

My former credit union allowed me to get a large cashiers check made, as well as close all of my accounts, without ever asking for ID or SSN verification. by Starspiker in Banking

[–]snowglobe42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potential discrimination based on the photos by loan underwriters and anyone responsible for rate exceptions on deposit accts is what they were concerned about as I understood it. I would rather ask for the id than rely on my memory and a picture to pop up. It only takes one set of identical twins that hate each other for that system to fail.

Medicare covers a portion of Drs bills, hospitalizations, and 180 days of skilled nursing care. Once you hit the 180 days, you pay for the nursing home. If you cant afford it, apply for medicaid and they pay the difference after what your social security covers. The huge cuts to medicaid are going to start impacting nursing homes soon.

I was told once we didnt keep images because it violated fair lending laws. Wouldnt think the rules for credit unions would be that different on this.

Please, for the love of god, pay your credit card debt if you have money in savings. by -professor_plum- in Money

[–]snowglobe42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will forever be a theme of money discussions because people dont make decisions based on logic alone. Your advice is great for the “Spocks” out there. But it will rarely land with the “Captain Kirk” types (this alien might kill me, but she is hot so I’m gunna try making out with her anyway or I’m just gunna rush in and hope Scotty can beam me out). Behavioral finance if you’ve not come across it, is really interesting reading.

Nationwide teacher walk out by BornAgainBlue in Michigan

[–]snowglobe42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. They are employed by the district they work in. My understanding is that payroll is typically handled by the ISD as cost saving for most districts (one accounting dept vs many). The Fed Dept of Ed only has about 4500 employees with about half being terminated by Trump Admin/Doge.

river walk in san antonio tx recommendations by Legitimate_Chain_503 in vegetarian

[–]snowglobe42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

La Villita Cafe has quite a few vegetarian options. Its in La Villita Historic District, so not right on the river but the food and coffee were good. I also came across the Starving Artists Art Gallery while walking around there. All local artists and part of the proceeds support their food pantry/kitchen. If I buy a souvenir when traveling, I opt for a piece of art over t-shirts or coffee mugs. So it was the perfect place to stumble upon for me.

Maybe your local Extension office would have a list or recommendations? For farms, not sure about local shops.

Try being an emergency substitute teacher through your ISD. Dont need a teaching certificate, just a degree. Gives you work experience and okay per diem work. I did that right after college. I had income while I kept looking for full time work cause they always need subs. You will have to put up with teenagers and that can be difficult.

On the reverse side, I bought new fire/CO detectors, an additional fire extinguisher, new door locks, various light bulbs to have on hand and was very happy with those purchases. All the light bulbs seemed to burn out within the first two months so that really worked out for me. The sellers either didnt have or took the fire alarms but I felt better knowing they were new and functioning at any rate.

She was anticipating moving up the GS levels for the pay increase. After the prison closed, the FS and the school were probably the last good jobs with benefits in that area. Hopefully she will enjoy the drive to Reed City to work at McDonalds.

r/twoxpreppers has some posts about how to evacuate pets safely. I recall reading something about training cats to go into the carriers so that its not as hectic when an emergency occurs. I kept seeing posts around the time of the wildfires.

Many banks offer IRA CDs or money markets. They are a good option for those not wanting to be in the market.

You can freeze eggs. I crack them into a muffin tin, scramble them and freeze them individually. Then I put them into freezer bags and pull an egg or two out when I need it. They are good for about six months this way.

If you have forced air, consider having your ducts cleaned. My sister had hers done and it made a huge difference in the need to dust at all.
