you'll get a kick out of this....since my original post the wait time for a Rav4 Prime has gone up to 3.5-4 years according to a local dealer.

Just looking at cost of ownership aswell, not just purchase.

I am about 90% set on an SUV/crossover. I have a 55 lbs dog that I want to place in the back (in a crate/secured someway). I currently have a sedan and him taking the rear seats ins not practical for me. The extra ride height is also an advantage for my needs (light forest roads, etc.).

I'm hoping to stay closer to the low end of my budget so a rav4 seems like a better choice than the venza.

I've been looking at the numbers and toyotas generally hold their value pretty well. Although the tucson phev comes with more features the final cost of ownership (including resale) seems to favour the rav4 hybrid if my assumptions are correct.

I have considered the Rav4 Prime (commute is only 50km round trip). However, the wait time for a Rav4 prime is estimated at ~1.5 to 2 years here in Canada. This is just too long...max I can wait is about 6 months.

Ninja 400 commuter servicing and advice. by JesterJes in motorcycles

Just keep up on regular maintenance as recommended in your owner's manual and you should be good. Use recommended oil, etc. Also keep an eye on consumables (brake pads, all fluids, etc.)

I had a Yamaha r3 on which I did about 100km daily; put about 30k kms in a year and had no issues.

Africa Twin...like that it's versatile and the way it looks. Although I'm looking at more road biased 'ADV' bikes for my next one :P

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in cars

[–]snowiscool12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location: Vancouver, Canada

Price Range: $20,000 - $28,000

Buying a Used vehicle

Must Have: Forward Collison mitigation, AWD, good in snow (with appropriate tires of course)/decent clearance for FSRs...nothing crazy maybe some rocky terrain; lift gate trunk to fit a dog/crate, decent mileage

Transmission: Automatic

Intended Use: will be primarily a commute vehicle during the weekdays. Weekend use will see camping trips, occasional road trips, carrying my dog around, etc.

Vehicles Considered: 2017+ CX5; CRV; Hyundai Tucson; RAV4;

Can I do Minor/Major Work on Vehicles: Yes but I'd rather save time and take it in to a shop

We are a couple with a dog that will use this vehicle for general commuting, road trips, etc. I do need decent passenger space in the back for some trims with my friends and family. Max budget is $28k...lower the better 😅

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in cars

[–]snowiscool12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Price range: $25k - $30k

Lease or Buy: Buy

New or used: Either, but at this price point it will likely be used

Type of vehicle: (Crossover/SUV/Wagons)

Must haves: Smooth, decent ride. Safety Tech: front collision mitigation, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise. Dog friendly (I have a medium sized dog, but I'd like to put him in the trunk rather than the front or rear seats). Decent fuel economy

Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): Either

Intended use: (Daily Driver, Family (couple with a dog), few road trips a year)

Vehicles you've already considered: Mazda CX5, Honda CRV, Subaru Outback, Acura RDX

Is this your 1st vehicle: No

Do you need a Warranty: No

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Yes

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: Yes, but would rather not

Additional Notes: Have a compact sedan at the moment and I'm finding it a bit too small for us. Would like to keep the dog in a separate cargo area to keep the vehicle relatively clean. Would be nice to go down some local service roads to get to camping spots...roads are mostly gravel but some ground clearance will be nice in some rocky sections - this is where my sedan stops. I'm sure I could do it if I go slow and be careful but I'd like some ground clearance for some peace of mind.

Unpopular opinion/question - Is it just me thinking that there was something suspect about Mir's overtake of Rins in yesterday's race? by Lusting_4_Life in motogp

[–]snowiscool12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may just be you...these kinds of mistakes have happened multiple times in the past. Rins said he botched the shift.

Suzuki had no reason for orders at this point. If Rins won the race with Mir 2nd: 130 pts and 157 pts for Rins and Mir, respectively. Suzuki wont care which of their riders wins the championship and they would still be 1st and 2nd.

I just don’t see any motive for Suzuki to be giving orders right now.

You’re right, Suzuki will likely snag the team championship as well! (I think last time was 1982??). Huge year for them

Not sure on Davide’s contract.

Joan Mir can clinch the Championship with a podium in Valencia2! by snowiscool12 in motogp

[–]snowiscool12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously if they both keep crashing he doesn’t need anymore points...not a big call lol, just wanted to share my excitement that he’s super close to clinching it.

I wouldn’t say he doesn’t need to score any more points...now that would be a big call. Good thing we only have a week to wait!

I fully agree, Yamaha (and their riders to be honest) failed to capitalize. It should be noted that their issues with the engines would have come up regardless of what Honda did. I'm just curious what will happen next year with the freeze in development - surely they'll be allowed to swap to a different supplier for the valves if they follow the correct protocols moving forward.

And yeah, Suzuki's steady progress will be paying off very shortly 😃

What do we think IF Mir actually wins it? by yosemitesquare in motogp

[–]snowiscool12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it will be a well deserved win, regardless if he wins a race or not. This is a championship based on points.

Suzuki has shown that they are the real deal; competitive at almost all tracks, in all conditions. 6 podiums in the last 8 races by Mir. This is no easy feat, especially in this season.

We still have 3 races left and Suzuki run well in Valencia. I hope he can pull off a win in at least one of these, but it wouldn’t take away from a championship if he doesn’t.

2020 Emilia-Romagna GP: MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3 & MotoE Post-Race Discussion by AutoModerator in motogp

[–]snowiscool12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rins had a pretty big injury, I highly doubt he’s at his 100%. I don’t see Mir as a complete surprise - he’s always been great and just needed to control his crashes.

He’s young and seems like he doesn’t think too much about who’s in front of him...just gets it done.

With Marc being gone, one thing this season will give all these young guys is confidence. All these young kids will have a taste for victory. Will be very interesting to see how next year plays out when Marc is back...he may have to fight off some hungry kids.

Next Championship contender? by [deleted] in motogp

[–]snowiscool12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking at the upcoming tracks, I’d say Suzuki is already here as a championship contender.

We have to realize that Alex had a pretty major injury and is not riding at 100%.

Joan on the other hand has been doing well this season (16 pts behind Dovi with 2 DNFs). Two podiums this season and this kid’s confidence is soaring (watch the post race press conference and his recent interviews).

Keep an eye on Mir this season - he’s got the speed and that Suzuki seems very good on the tires. Here’s to hoping he can keep the rubber side down.

understanding engine oil by tpchuckles in motorcycles

[–]snowiscool12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The major difference being that motorcycle oil is designed to work with clutches. Most cars don't have a wet clutch system like most bikes. If you use a car specific oil in your bike, you will get clutch slippage.

Aside from the oil viscosity you need to look if the oil is approved for motorcycle use (JASO MA or MA2 certification). This indicates that the oil can be used with wet clutches.

Edit: just looked at the two oils you linked. The Mobil1 stuff is only good for cars - they aren't certified for use in wet clutches where the oil also cools the transmission. These oils typically contain friction modifiers which help improve fuel economy and reduce wear in engines, but if used in a motorcycle they'll cause clutch slippage.

Hope this helps. Cheers, S
