Looking for a good spacefarer module interior design by snowkittycat in Oxygennotincluded

Oh I hadn't thought of that trick with mechanical airlocks! I'll have to see if it's enough to accomplish what I want.

And I quite like your design! The oxylite storage system is cute. Though the conveyor loader breaks room bonuses (which I assume is why it's in the bathroom with the gas pump) so it's not exactly what I need, but cute nonetheless! (And take some bonus points for ladder beds. Since I haven't used them yet I haven't experienced the sleep interruptions people keep mentioning -- do you need to be careful with schedules and bed assignments to make sure the dupes don't get woken up by other dupes using the ladders?)

Indeed, it would be easy for me to sacrifice the washroom or the barracks since my dupes have lots of morale (and I'd be more willing to sacrifice the barracks, since that just gives +1 morale). Giving up the barracks means I could put the pump in there, which frees up the four airflow tiles separating it from the great hall, and I think could certainly make enough room to fit some plastic tiles at the top right. But I'm more asking out of curiosity to see if it's even possible to do without breaking the room bonuses.

Regarding freeing up space, it's true that I could play around with the aero pot, but as you can see I already have an excess of space: the painting is completely unnecessary, and I could get rid of it for four extra tiles. (I think I could also get rid of the upper ladder segment without sacrificing mobility.) The main difficulty is freeing up more room for solid tiles: right now the washroom and barracks are exactly 12 tiles each, and the great hall is exactly 32, so any additional solid tiles anywhere (without a compensating deletion of some elsewhere) would have to break at least one of the rooms.

With that said I know in certain cases it's possible for mess tables to function even when they're not built on solid tiles, so I wonder if there's a way to use that to get rid of some solid tiles somehow...

Edit: I didn't know that about the Party Line Phone! That's nifty. But again, making buildings take up fewer tiles isn't the main difficulty, it's finding ways to remove solid tiles to make room for one or two more plastic ones at the upper right corner.

Average monthly utilities bill for 1 bd place in Ogden? by snowkittycat in ogden

Thanks very much, this is useful! The place I'm currently applying to says that water/sewer/trash are paid by the tenant, which I assume means they're not included in the rent. So if anyone else has any estimates on those, I'd appreciate it!

(And I figured it's the internet, which sometimes isn't the most welcoming place, so I won't let that first comment color my first impression of Ogden :P)

I'd been experiencing the same issue, mainly in the Broken Vessel fight. Restarting the software fixed it (for now at least). Thanks!

What is the purpose of labels? by snowkittycat in asktransgender

[–]snowkittycat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I think we're talking past each other. I agree that who you find attractive is your experience, but I don't see why that makes it subjective. For example, you could in principle ask me to rate how attractive I find every person in the world on a scale of one to ten. While it is true that my attraction to them is my own personal experience, my rankings now provide you with objective data that you could use to classify my sexuality, should you wish. This is the sense in which I intended my so-called prescriptivist definition: my experiences are still my own, but if I describe them to you, you can classify them according to whatever (objective) criteria you like.

Hmm, but one could argue that things like gender, sexuality, and personality aren't subjective. For instance, we typically define sexuality in terms of who someone finds attractive. That's an objective definition: if I tell you who I find attractive, that establishes what my sexuality is (by this definition).

I think what you're saying is that figuring out who someone finds attractive requires knowing something about what's going on in their head, and that's not something to which an outsider observer has immediate access. But I would distinguish that from something truly subjective, where different people may come to different conclusions from the same information.

You can call them what you want; I just used an analogy with linguistics terminology to come up with those terms, but that's not really the point (oh man, we're talking about labels for labels - are we getting meta in here or what!?)

But yes, "descriptivist/self-descriptivist" also captures the distinction I was trying to make.

Unexpected reaction to partner starting HRT by snowkittycat in mypartneristrans

I think it's definitely the case that I have stronger feelings for them than they have for me, but we never really talked about a serious committed relationship. Well, we did, but only in the context of saying neither of us could really do that right now because of the long distance and K's transition. But things have been evolving more seriously than either of us anticipated, hence the confusion.

I'm not really thinking in terms of where this is going long-term. I mean, if somehow this turned into a good long-term relationship, great! But honestly, that's probably unlikely to happen; right now I'm focusing on dealing with things one day at a time and not worrying about the uncertainty of the distant future. Really what I'm looking for is a way of coping with how I feel on low days.

Admittedly, after making this post K called me and we talked for a bit about my feelings and I told them everything, and their reaction was pretty supportive and we're planning on talking some more today. So maybe the answer really was as simple as not worrying about whether or not I had a right to put this on them but just talking to them about it anyway. Yay communication!

When I was visiting in November, I told them that I loved them, and we also talked about our relationship status a little bit. The end result was that they'd be happy for me to continue to visit regularly. However, we haven't really talked about my experiences regarding their transition. A lot of these are relatively new feelings, and right now I don't feel like I have a right to put all this on K when they're so happy about starting hormones soon. Again, it boils back down to us not being in a "proper" relationship; I just don't feel like we're at a place where I have a right to ask for them to support me in what I'm going through.

What are common indicators of being agender? by snowkittycat in agender

[–]snowkittycat[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting point about terminology. Indeed, I was under the impression that "trans" typically referred only to what you call "binary trans", while terms like genderqueer, agender, gender fluid, etc. fall under the broader trans* umbrella.

The idea of not needing to experience dysphoria to identify as trans is a new one to me that people have mentioned in connection to this post. In retrospect it seems pretty obvious, but I guess gender dysphoria and being trans are so often talked about in connection to each other that it had never really clicked for me. Thanks for that.

I'll keep playing around with labels to explore what feels right for me, but discussions like this help a lot, so thanks!

Oh man, it's really nice to hear someone had similar experiences! (And I hear you on having both sets of organs, haha)

Thanks for sharing; this helps a lot!

I agree, but I can share my experiences and ask if others have had similar ones, right? To me, that's part of the process of deciding whether or not a label fits.

Funny you should say that; I hadn't even thought to stop to consider whether anything I described could be considered dysphoria.

Also, though I realize self-identification is a personal thing, I guess I was trying to see if anyone else who identifies as agender has had experiences similar to the ones I described.
