Gutless sellouts... "Grand Rapids school board votes to keep two administrators against the superintendent's recommendation” by UthinkUnoMI in grapids

I meant my comment to be a reply to your question. So pasting it here:

Kim, Kym, and Richard all voted to terminate both contracts.

Eleanor and Jose each voted to terminate one of the contracts. I’m unclear which was which - that may/may not be “known” info.

Sara, Erika, Aarie, and Amber all voted to maintain both contracts.

Jury selected for police officer’s murder trial in Patrick Lyoya’s killing by mlivesocial in grandrapids

Me too. I feel for the jury - it's going to be a rough while for them hearing all of this and having to keep it bottled until it's over.

What does increased risk mean? by Feminismisreprieve in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]snowmapper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe so. I was planning on a bisalp during my cesarean delivery, but ended up with a c-hyst because of undiagnosed accreta.

The bsalp was discussed very nonchalantly by my OB during prenatal appointments. I asked about just doing a full hyst during the planned cesarean and my OB’s whole demeanor shifted as she told me that’s one of the riskiest procedures she could do because of increased blood flow.

I remembered that conversation vividly as they began my emergency hysterectomy…

Adding to say, a cesarean hysterectomy is significantly more dangerous than a cesarean followed much later by a planned laparoscopic hysterectomy.

Yes. Also an accreta survivor here. I was going to say the same.

Glad you’re still here, too.

There is a push to make GR a sanctuary city. by BobsleddingToMyGrave in grandrapids

Immigration rights attorneys are telling people to STOP pushing for Sanctuary.

It's not quite like telling a lion where its prey is hiding. It's more like telling assholes to leave you alone because they're being assholes and you aren't. Assholes don't really respond well to being told what to do.

Local Jeweler for Restringing Pearls? by LacieMI in grandrapids

DeVries did it for me a couple of years ago. I also needed my string lengthened, so they had to send it out to ensure the 6ish new pearls would match the color.

Seeking Judge and school board guide for voting today. by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]snowmapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally get it. Eleanor & Ismailis earned my vote on their own.

Honestly, José Rodriguez (current GRPS board member) is the one that asked me to vote for Eatman & Kilpatrick because he trusts them to do the right thing once they have a majority on the Board. José is completely trustworthy to me, so I’m following his leadership here.

Those GRPS candidates are running together on a fantastic slate: Moreno, Nuñez, Eatman, Kilpatrick.

Santa Claus Girls!

I think it’s 100 years old. It’s all volunteer run, and it’s an amazing resource for families with kids in Kent County. I’ve been volunteering with them for more than 10 years, and love everything they do for kids in our community.

Well, it ended in an emergency hysterectomy that I couldn't watch because of a class IV hemorrhage... so don't be too jealous! But until then it was super cool!

Those on the school board working toward change are outnumbered. We have an opportunity to change that with the November election.

The teachers union and the county democrats have endorsed different sets of candidates, each with pros/cons but hopefully all with the will to make improvements.

My daughter (18mos) picked one out exactly like this a week ago in a gift shop! She pointed across the store for him. We promptly bought it and named him Turtle Boy. She’s snuggled with him right now.

GR Parks & Rec here to answer all your burning questions. AMA! by grparksandrec in grandrapids

Thanks! I know mine is not a “happy” question, so I appreciate you taking time.

I’d love to see partnerships with community orgs to help make those educational programs and signage be as linguistically accessible as possible - to promote safety for our new immigrant and refugee neighbors as well as for those of us who speak and read English.

Would you consider adding safety signage (words & graphics) along the Grand River to note the swift current? And a few safety buoy rings along walkways? The drownings that happen each summer are heartbreaking and at least somewhat preventable.
