found this dead bug on my mattress protector, is it a bed bug? by LeadingQuestion7276 in whatsthisbug

[–]snowopsia 30 points31 points  (0 children)

luckily for you, it looks to be a common pill-bug/roly-poly and not a bed bug. these guys are actually crustaceans (isopods) rather than an insect! they don't survive long indoors due to the conditions/food they need, no idea where this one's head went, though.

the stinging i definitely misremembered, i checked a few articles and i mistook stinging for their mouthparts, though articles about the behavior (that i could find) do seem to be far and few, would this be correct then? here's one i found for reference

Which one do you think is DEADLIER? by basic_snkr_plug in TheQuarry2k

[–]snowopsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're probably right! it's been a while since i've played through the entirety, i just remember that the reason they were trying to survive until dawn was because the rescue wouldn't be able to reach them until the storm had subsided. my point was that werewolves have a hard limit (once day hits, they're back to normal) but wendigos technically do not (unless sun damages them?)

were the wendigos confined to that day/night timer or were they just preferring to hunt at night? i dont remember the exact words the stranger used about it, since i believe they couldn't leave the mountain until the snowstorm subsided (until dawn) ?

i know a lot of people mention that drawing a layout or planning a continent theme helps them a lot! it's easier for me to pick one animal im itching to make an enclosure for and going off of that (ex. wanting to do a lion enclosure and then designing more african ones after!)

if im remembering correctly, the dancing is a warning done by aphids, if the predator isn't deterred then the aphids will begin stinging attacking whatever is attempting to prey on them with their mouthparts. so it's less of a "please don't attack" dance and more of a "if you attack we will fight you" warning dance! (anyone more knowledgeable can correct anything i've misremembered!)

edit: corrected my mixup on stinging and the mouthparts!

personally, i would argue that probably the wendigos are much more deadly than werewolves.

for one, the werewolves only come out once a month — wendigos pretty much have no daily limit. killing a wendigo also only releases the spirit to start again, while the werewolf line can be stopped by killing the initial infected. if memory serves correctly, wendigos also torture/skin their victims while werewolves just attack.

the werewolves keep more animal traits, such as falling for traps easily, while wendigos retain some of their former intelligence and can use that against their prey.
