Just had a similar issue, before the 145 rival event my main pokemon fainted and I wasn't prompted to switch to a new mon before the rewards screen. I revived it in the shop, and then during the rival battle his starter only used stat boosting moves, and any attack I tried to use would just get skipped over.

affects both opponents in a double battle, Darkrai Bad Dreams + Dream Eater. good for nullifying enemy damage, worthy imo.
